Updating on some Augie injuries:

Swetalla is still out after spraining his ankle a few games ago

Shaun Rose also has sprained an ankle and will be out for a bit

The new news is that Joe Caricato injured his knee in practice and will not play tonight....lets hope that this is just a minor injury.

Within the last week or so it looks like Augie's frontcourt has been weakened considerably.  I hope they can all get healthy before conference season starts.

North Central blew out Adrian College today. Big news was that Simmons is back for North Central.

anyone with any insight into this game??

Just came across an UNBELIEVABLE stat line.  Ray Vicario and Adam Teising of North Central thru 4 games this season have combined for 39 assists and only 3 turnovers.  That is freaking crazy good.  The team has only 37 total in 4 games.

NCC over Adrian  86-63 at Adrian!!!  Looks like Simmons wasn't ineligible after all.  He did make the boxscore but didn't start.  May have been a coaches decision to sit him out of the last game.  That's good news for my Cards.  Looks like NCC was a little sloppy with 20 turnovers.  That's a high for the season.  Chris Drennan (Freshman) had a nice game scoring a career high 20pts.  I believe he has a chance to be top freshman in the CCIW this year as he continues to get better.  Anyways, nice CCIW road win vs  the MIAA.   Here is the boxscore from Adrian's website:

Elmhurst 97
Rockford 68

Martin 20pts, 9 brds, 4 st, 4 asst.
Michael 15pts, 8 brds
Ruch had 14pts, on 6-6 shooting.
Ihlenfeldt had 11pts
Lee and Strzemp had 9pts each.

Elmhurst shot 72% in the second half and 60 % for the game. And 47% from the arc (9-19).

Rockford chucked about 30 3's up tonight.

Martin, I think the difference was all in the way IWU played.  The Titans just had it all come together today.

At 14:23 (in the 2nd) it was 51-42 Titans.

At 9:04 it was 72-42 Titans.

21 points in 5:19...it was one of the best stretches of Titan basketball I've ever seen.

Impressive stats...

* Adam Dauksas: 12 assists, 2 turnovers
* Chris Jones: 13 pts (6-7 FG), 13 reb
* Keelan Amelianovich: 23 pts, 7 reb
* Mike McGraw: 11 pts (4-5 FG)

Rebounds: IWU 43 Wash U 23

FG: IWU 53% Wash U 33%

Wash U is a very good basketball team...what IWU did today was really something.

Augie 75 Concordia (IL) 58-Final. Harrigan had 38 pts and McAdams Thornton had 17 pts. Caricato, Rose and Dane Swetella were all out with injuries. Oliver Rorer was the replacement starter at forwatd and scored 6 points. It's hard to believe Harrigan was not a starter at Augie until well into the season last year.

Hopefully, the injured Vikes will be back soon as the schedule gets tougher in the next week or so.

I've been attending IWU b'ball games for over 40 years, and I think the performance tonight against Wash. U. was probably the best I've ever seen because every aspect of the Titans' game was supurb, especially at the defensive end. Congratulations to Scott Trost for obviously preparing a talented team to play 36 minutes close to perfection (starters were removed with 4 minutes left). To dominate a good team so thoroughly at home was unexpected. Wash. U. needs a guard and their soph. 6'6' star Troy Roths, who was averaging 18.6 ppg, had a terrible game. Maybe he was under the weather because he is a very good player.  Chris Jones played a great game. I think the coaches of most IWU opponents would shudder at trying to devise a defensive game plan to effectively throttle the IWU offense. Too many weapons to try to defend.

Adrian pressure's the ball a lot, they typically force a lot of turnovers.

augie_superfan

Augiefan already said all that needs to be said about the Augustana performance tonight.  Man, I hope Rick can keep this level of play up all year long, he is playing amazing.  I loved to see that Augie only had 10 turnovers tonight...that was a great thing to see regardless of their competition.

I don't want to speculate too much on all the Augie injuries but I hope they get better real quick just because since Coach G has been at Augie, they have been a program that has always made sure that they played a lot of people and kept their players fresh.  Right now Augie has about 20% of their minutes per game out and injured.  According to some people on the Augie campus, Rose should be back soon and Swetalla's ankle is still swollen and all but atleast he is walking now.  I don't know about Caricato but injured knees, especially on a big man, are never good.  I just hope it's a sprain or something of that nature rather than anything serious that could cause a season to end.

Good road win tonight Augie...keep up the good work!!

Titan Q

What did Edwards wish his team wasn't doing during the Titans' overwhelming surge?

"Playing Illinois Wesleyan," he quickly responded.

That kind of sums up the game yesterday.  The rest of the Pantagraph article...

Cardinalalum, what are you talking about?  "My version", How can a player be ineligible and then eligible all in the same week!  I don't know where you're getting you info., but make sure it's credible before you post it here on d3hoops.

Some impressive numbers in IWU's season boxscore through 6 games against a strong schedule...

http://www.iwu.edu/~iwunews/sports/mbb2006/TEAMCUME.HTM

FG% - .511
Opp. FG% - .389

3-pt % - .411
Opp. 3-pt % - .365

FT% - .793

Rebound margin - +10/game

Avg Pts - 78.7
Avg allowed - 62.8

A:TO - 96:76 (1.3:1)

Field goal attempt balance between big 3: Amelianovich 69, Freeman 67, Dauksas 60

The only statistic I don't like is Titan opponents with more assists than T.O...77 assists to 72 T.O.  But overall, these are great numbers in the early going against overall strong competition.
