All of us remember games where we felt the refs decided a game with a last minute call. It certainly is no fun being on the receiving end of a game deciding call by the refs. Usually the home team is the beneficiary of such calls, but last night the road team (IWU) was apparently the recipient of a game deciding call. All in all a tough night for three of the home teams, as all of the losses were nail biters.

The bottom line is that IWU is already a title contender with a very young team. They may not win this year, but the rest of the conference will be challenged to beat them in future years, as they clearly have great young talent on their squad.

Hello fellow CCIW fans

New poster here, but I've lurked for a while and have followed my Elmhurst College Bluejays for close to 18 years.

I've nothing to add to last nite's game at the R.A. Faganel that the other posters didn't cover, bit I must reiterate how effective Wheaton was in taking Elmhurst off their outside shooting game.  7 for 21 in the second half will not win many games.  Wheaton also seemed a bit more motivated to start the second half than Elmhurst was.  I can't say how many exactly but Wheaton scored on their first several possesions to really take it to Elmhurst, in addition to forcing turnovers and getting a lot of second chance points.  Elmhurst did well just to get in into OT.

First Wheaton win at RAF since '04.  Four out of their next five on the road for the Jays and the one home game is Augustana.

Oh, boy, another officiating debacle.

Some replies to previous posts:

1.  I BELIEVE (at least, this is what I announced, and what I think was indicated to the table) that the foul was called on Antonio Stevens, NOT Nick Williams.  If so, that makes this even more interesting.  Williams was the one who hit the shot, and if the foul was not called on him, then....

2.  That shot ABSOULTELY went in before the buzzer sounded.

3.  I need someone with experience to tell us about this Mau character.  Seems quite interesting.  FYI:  NP AD Jack Surridge came down to the table before the final 2 seconds of the game elapsed, and told said official he wanted to speak to him after the game.  When the final buzzer sounded, said official vanished from appearance (not that I blame him, or that it isn't normal for officials to leave immediately).  I'm just interested to know what transpired there.

4.  Titan Q, oh Titan Q.  I've never met you, but have always gotten the feeling you are a respectable CCIW fan.  Everyone is entitled to a mulligan now and then, but you ought to be ashamed of yourself for even hinting at the idea that the NP table was deliberately attempting to "fiddle" with the clock at the end of the game.  The individual who runs the clock is a respectable guy who would never do such a thing.  Take my word for it.  Quite an accusation to make of someone....

5.  Finally, as to how much time was back on the clock after the foul was called....that was a decision made by the officials.  Can't blame that one on any "homers", now, can you?

6.  Finally, for real....I had the opportunity to meet an old IWU SID at the game last night.  Quite a nice gentleman.  I mentioned to him that it must be unbelievable for him to have watched so many Titan games over the years, and to have noticed that IWU has NEVER committed a foul!  Classy fans?  If that's what a bunch of old-timers whining about every single possession is, then yes, classy indeed.

What an exciting game at RAF last night.  This was a great game that featured non stop energy, runs, heartbreaks, and then some.
The first 10 minutes or so of the first half, Elmhurst ran Wheaton right out of the building.  The 11 point lead was due to great rebounding, Raymond missing some open looks, and the Bluejays going to be big guy (Ruch) inside.  Why did they stop this?
Second half Raymond took his team under his wing and started driving to the basket.    His drives and 3 point plays enabled Panner to get wide open as the Thunder built an 11- point lead.  Why the turnaround?  I think it was due to A) Elmhurst not rebounding as well- in fact there were 3-4 orange jerseys on every loose ball, compared to 1 blue.  B) Elmhurst stopped going to Ruch down low.
"The right team won the game"  ???  I think what you mean here is the team that played an (entire/complete) game is more appropriate.  Wheaton flat out never quit and their All-American outdid Elmhurst.  EC's All-American was equally as strong, however Raymond helped Wheaton get the W.

Oh one other point-  Nobody has mentioned how important Andy Wiele was in the second half.  He was quiet and "spooked" by Ruch in the first half.  Brent had his well all day.  Second half though, he was getting to loose balls in traffic and helped Wheaton really conquer the paint in the second half.

I think Elmhurst and Wheaton are going to be looking at just making the tournament, as opposed to winning the CCIW's title.  At 3-3 I think they are on the outside looking in, needing to win almost all of their remaining games to win the CCIW.  Carthage and Augie are in pretty good shape.

I heard the foul was on Nick Williams.  Since he shot the game winner after receiving the pass from someone in the melee, then Nick was at least 6' from the ball at the time the foul got called.  Calling a foul against someone that far from the scrum, at such a crucial juncture, defies logic.

If Antonio Stevens got called for the foul, where was he on the court at the time of the foul?

Isn't it true that the ref called a foul before the shot was released?

Isn't it true that the ref called a foul before the shot was released?

The foul was absolutely called before the shot attempt by Nick Williams.  That is why I am so confused as to why all the discussion about whether or not the shot went in before or after the clock hit 0:00.  The fact they put 2.0 on the clock after that play indicates when the officials made the call (we all know the shot was released somewhere right around the horn, which was 2 seconds after the call was made).

I was not even watching the shot attempt (by Williams) because I was trying to sort out the call being made by the official.  As the ball went through the hoop, the official was already pointing down towards IWU's basket, indicating the call was against North Park.  Despite the students charging the floor, at no point did I even consider that the shot counted as I watched that whole mess unfold.

I understand the debate regarding whether it was a foul or not, whether it should have been called, etc., but the discussion surrounding whether or not the shot went in before the horn is just a completely moot point.

The foul, by the way, was on someone coming over the back of IWU's Jordan Morris right near the basket.  I do not think it was Nick Williams that was called (even though NPU's play-by-play says so)...I thought it was Antonio Stevens.  Williams ended up with the ball about 15 feet away from the basket towards the left corner, so I do not think he was the one whistled for the over-the-back.  I am still fuzzy on that part of the play.

Congratulations to Bosko Djurickovic on win #200 at Carthage (Saturday at Millikin).  Hard to believe he's been there long enough to have won 200 games, but this is season #12 in Kenosha.  Time flies.

I'm always a fan of the postgame Bosko quotes...

Quoting Coach Bosko Djurickovic on the Jan. 26 Millikin Victory:  "This was a heck of a ball game.   Millikin guarded us as well as any team we've seen this year.  They played hard and played very well.  We made a couple of big plays at the end of the game.  Sean Fendley and Trey Bowens were super—it was a nice team win.  We didn't play as well as we have recently, but every game has its own personality.  We're walking out with a win, and that's all you can ask when you're on the road.  There is no team in the CCIW this year that's not competitive, and frankly, there's not one team that's head and shoulders above everyone else.  The 200 wins at Carthage is nice, and it's been fun, but it doesn't mean anything if we don't win against North Park on Wednesday."

My previous post had two points.  First, the shot was late.  Second, a Zebra was looking for something.  My personal belief is that for some reason Nick Williams has a huge target on his back.  He got hammered repeatedly in the W v. Augie (no calls) and got nailed for two tickey-tack fouls v. Elmhurst despite Ruch's foul-prone behavior.  I didn't post anything after the Elmworst game because the superior team won, no doubt.  Williams, inexplicably, got called for the foul that negated his shot.  Who's getting jobbed?

hmmm. the best player on the team you watch is getting a raw deal from the officials? never heard that one before.

Usually its the opposite, i.e Raymond...

take heart North Parkers, if what happened to NPU had happened to any of the other CCIW teams, their fans would be in here screaming and hollering. You know it, I know it, and the American people know it. The only thing to do now is focus on the upcoming games, we can't change what happened so we might as well move on....

The damn foul was on Antonio Stevens!

Does anyone read these things?

I'm still waiting to hear about this official....come on Sager!  It shouldn't take you more than 24 hours to cool off...

VB: You qualified your statement by stating your belief.  A stronger declaration may have persuaded me.  Other people, i.e., NP people (plural) seated less than five and ten feet from you, believe the ref called Williams for the foul.  Thus, my questions.
