IWU vs. Hanover
won of the best matchups in the past few years in D3 ball. The games have been amazing, both teams always leave it all out on the court. IWU ranked #1 and deservingly so is 6-0 and on a roll. While Hanover tripped out of the blocks with a hard loss to NAIA Robert Morris and to Elmhurst they have won 2 in a row and look like they are coming together as a team. This game is the classic young and gunning vs. the witty experieced elders of IWU. Should be a instant classic at the Shirk Center.
Past 2 years... Hanover is 2-0 at the Shirk Center
Overall 3-1 in 4 historic meetings.

Simmons obviously isn't ineligible, but him sitting a game could've been academic related anyway.  I don't know, could've been something else.  Whatever the reason is I'm sure the coaching staff at NC is dealing with it justly.  The coaching staff at North Central these days (post Benji) do not put up with riff raff, they discipline.  I applaud there efforts, it will only help Anthony in the long run, and also the team.

CardinalAlum - your version is the closest anyone has guessed so far.......i know the actual reason why he was out, i just dont want to spread personal business. if someone else finds out and wants to talk about it i'll be more than happy to give my end of the report. but i dont think it's right for me to let his business out.

The only statistic I don't like is Titan opponents with more assists than T.O...77 assists to 72 T.O.  But overall, these are great numbers in the early going against overall strong competition.

Q,

All that stat says to me is that the Titans are playing quality, as opposed to bad opponents.  Good teams take care of the ball and don't beat themselves (with unforced TO's).  That the ratio is almost equal says that the Titans are still FORCING TO's.

Haven't seen a report yet on the NPU game from last night, so ...

Loras 77
North Park 58

Jason Gordon, 13 pts
Brett Mathisen, 12 pts, 6 rebs

A terrible game for the Vikings, who were never in this in Paul Brenegan's homecoming. The Duhawks scored the first eight points of the game, led 46-26 at the half, and were up by 30 when Loras coach Chad Walthall called off the dogs with four minutes and change remaining and the Duhawks leading, 72-42.

Loras outrebounded NPU by a 30-20 margin, but the Vikings cut way down on their turnovers (only 12) and actually attempted more shots than the Duhawks. The difference was in where the shots were taken. Loras shot over 63% for the game, and 6'5" forwards Kyle White (22 pts) and Luke Slater (18 pts) were a combined 14-15 from the field. If you're going to give the other team layups all night, don't be surprised to find yourself down by 30 points.

NPU is going to have its struggles this year, but there's no making excuses for this one. This was a step backwards for the Vikings.

I haven't seen a report yet on Millikin from last night, either, so:

RMC-Springfield 70
Millikin 68

The Big Blue drop one at home on a last-second shot by the Eagles. Drew Gensler led Millikin with 21 points, while Korte Long had a 13/14 game.

Can anyone tell me if there is a working broadcast or live stats page up for the LU - Carthage game? Or if not, anyone able to do in-game updates? Thanks in advance!

Mr. Ypsi

Greg,

I know RMC-Springfield is the lesser RMC, but are they flat out bad or just so-so?  While any in-region loss is, of course, a bad loss, I'm wondering HOW bad MU's loss really is.

Mr. Ypsi,
I don't think that's an in-region loss because RMC-Springfield's not a D3 team. From what little I know about them, they're not terrible. They beat D2 Quincy last year and gave them a good game this year (67-58). They got pounded by D2 power Southern Indiana, but that's not surprising. D2 Truman State beat them up pretty good also. They've got wins over D3 Rockford and MacMurray, neither of whom are particularly good. Their top player is Corley Lee, who signed originally with Chicago State in 1999. He's a 6-6 front court player and a pretty good handful at this level.

Ypsi  -  MU's loss to RM Springfield is relatively meaningless  -  They are not in region - they are USCAA.  Prior to playing MU, they had beaten mediocre D3 teams Rockford, Fontbonne , and MacMurray  (Mediocre may be high praise), and lost to North Central and Whitewater.  Milikin fits somewhere in the middle of that wide expanse.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Mr. Ypsi

My bad - they would obviously be within the 200-mile rule - I forgot to consider that they weren't d3 in the first place!

Carthage lost at home to #9 Lawrence by 13 points, 78-65, to fall to 2-6.  Carthage goes to Concordia (Wis) next before hosting Gustavus Adolphus and Grinnell.

http://www.carthage.edu/athletics/index.cfm?page=19

Per the boxscore, Carthage trailed 30-29 at the half.  It was a 3-point game with 6:57 to play when Lawrence went on an 8-0 run to take control for good.

Carthage held 6-4 senior All-American Chris Braier (16.2 ppg, 10.4 rpg) to 9 points (3-8 FG), but he had 16 rebounds.  Kyle Jeffery had 18 pts and 5 rebounds, Trey Bowens 13, and Brian Schlemm had 11 pts and 5 rebounds in his first game of the season (ankle injury).

TBF, are you saying during Taylor's regime at NCC riff raff was allowed?

Guy's that's exactly what it was, a guess.  The fact remains Simmons is eligible, he never was ineligible, and he will be playing for the Cardinals the entire season.  Period, case closed!!

Will Anthony Simmons keep on playing?  Did he get suspended and leave school, or was that a body double?  Does anyone really know the true story, and if so, what will it take to make them talk?  And just what does Benji Taylor have to do with all this?

These and other questions will be answered in our next episode of Naperville Place.  Tune in tomorrow, same time, same channel!
