Well...it's all come down to this...after a long and brutal CCIW schedule, the conference championship comes down to a huge game tomorrow night in Rock Island.
It's no secret that IWU has been playing awesome ball for the last several weeks and seem to be on a roll.  Augie meanwhile continues to produce tight win after tight win thanks to an aggressive defense and timely shooting.  Hopefully Coach G has a good game plan to hold the Titans down and the Vikings can put together a good offensive showing...how about a 60% shooting night!!!  While Dain Swetella has struggled as of late, I feel he may come up big in this one.  If he is aggressive from the beginning and is hitting his 6-8 footer, Augie has a good chance.  The Vikings must reestablish a prescence inside with Swetalla, Collins and Bertrand all active around the basket.  We will need timely points from Pelton, Washington and Becker as I feel the Titans will take away some of Wessels shooting opportunities.  Rebounding will be key!!!  Come on Viking fans...Let's fill the Carver Center and support this team that has a chance to win the CCIW and keep the Conference tourney in Rock Island!!!  IWU will bring many faithful to the game.  ALL VIKING FANS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING AS MANY AS THEY CAN TO TOMORROW NIGHTS GAME...THE VIKING DESERVE TO PLAY THIS HUGE GAME IN FRONT OF A LARGE, SUPPORTIVE HOME CROWD.  WITHOUT DELP, THIS TEAM HAS RISEN TO THE CHALLENGE AND PLAYED GREAT BASKETBALL...LET'S ALL COME OUT TO THE CARVER CENTER WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND CHEER OUR VIKINGS ON TO VICTORY!!!
GO AUGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dennis Prikkel and Joe Hakes can each credit a chin or two of theirs to the food at Charcoal Delights.

Amazing that 23 years after I left North Park that I would still be remembered for eating at The Pit.  I do have to admit that it was the best place to take the tennis team after a match.  We would drive back from a match all the way to NP and then go to eat, it really was that good.

I need to get back there some time.......

Or.......typing in caps may express excitement and emphasis on an important statement...my apologies if this is annoying to you

Greg, just think of it as the internet equivalent of the Reader's Digest Large Print edition for the visually-challenged.

RedMan1, there's only one place you need to know for pregame or postgame food for a game at NPU -- Charcoal Delights, aka "the Pit". It's right next to the Foster & Kedzie parking lot across the street from the gym, so you can't miss it. True to the name, everything in there is charcoal-grilled. It regularly appears on best-fast-food lists in the city, alongside Superdog, Mr. Beef, Portillo's, etc., which in a town like Chicago is not an easy thing to do.

(And I'm sure that Gus and Spiro and Tom and the rest of the guys behind the counter at Charcoal Delights will all be waiting for Bosko to show up on Wednesday night. Rumor has it that Bosko has it written into his will that a Charcoal Delights gyros plate be put in his casket before he's lowered into the ground.)

Dennis Prikkel and Joe Hakes can each credit a chin or two of theirs to the food at Charcoal Delights.

There are other fast-food joints on Foster across the street from NPU (McDonald's, Subway, Jimmy John's), but what's the point? You can eat at a franchise anytime. Charcoal Delights is one of the best reasons to make the trip to North Park to see a game.

Charcoal Delights is an excellent choice.

As an alternative, I'd recommend Tre Kronor for a 'sit down' dinner: http://www.swedishbistro.com/

I think the average price per dinner entree ranges from $15 - 20.  Tre Kronor has a reputation as a breakfast destination (I sat a table over from Mayor Daley once), but I've enjoyed the few times I've eaten dinner there.

Late nite

IMHO, it has been hard for Dain to be the #1 option on this team---He was forced into that situation after the Delp injury---He was more successful in his first two seasons as a complimentary player because he had a better OFFENSIVE supporting cast---Two years ago, it was Harrigan and McAdams-Thornton---Last year it was Delp, Nate Swetalla, Wessels and Brusveen---Although the Vikes have many good players this season battling for another CCIW championship, I don't feel that they have the type of players, other than Brett Wessels, who can go off for a bunch of points when the team really needs them---It's alot tougher when you are the focus of another team's game plan---I hope he makes my opinions look real bad tomorrow night

I think Brett Wessels should be a lock for All Conference no matter what happens in the IWU game. He has averaged 16.4 ppg in conference and has a .857 FT% with many of those FTs coming with the game on the line.

He is the one Augie player that has pulled them through game in game out with Delp out for the season and Swetalla failing to come close to living up to expectations. If Dwyer shuts down Wessels Wednesday night like he did Raymond, then IWU most likely wins the conference title. That is how important Brett Wessels is to Augie.

As for Dain Swetalla I have to believe he is playing hurt this season. His skills cannot have deteriorated that much from last year without injury problems. Does any one at Augie have any clue as to why Dain is struggling so badly?  Augie really needs him on his game Wednesday night but the last two outings do not indicate that will be happening.

VoxElmhurst-  I will have to do some searching and look at the archives to answer your question.  I found out about Jared's milestone via Coach Scherrer during our radio post game vs. North Park.  I was surprised as I would not have guessed Hintzsche over other EC greats Ryan Knuppel, Chris Martin, or Eric Stark.
I think Ruch, Raymond, and Djurickovic are locks for CCIW 1st Team.

If you want Japanese or Korean cuisine, go four blocks north to Bryn Mawr.  Between Kedzie and Kimball you will find numerous restaurants; I recommend Midori.

Traveling south of the basketball venue, you can find plenty of Arabic spots.

Tre Kronor is excellent.

I think Gant is also a lock.

Both posts are true, of course, but I somehow have difficulty envisioning a carload of Carthage undergrads arguing all the way down I-94 about whether they should have sushi or gravlax for dinner instead of Charcoal Delights cheeseburgers. :D

Haha, I'm sure I will see you there. There should be 4 of us coming in and grabbing a bite to eat.

Yes, being in school a burger and a "beverage" will be just fine.

It appears that most are picking Augie over Wesleyan tomorrow night on CCIW pick'ems.
I'm hoping this falls true to form.  The Titans have won 5 in a row and are playing great ball.  They also seem to play very well in Rock Island over the years.  Hopefully the Augie Faithful can come out in full force tomorrow night (Wed) and cheer the Vikings on to a huge win over the Titans.    I know that I'll be there!
Despite this teams offensive woes at times, they have continued to shine on defense when needed.  And we all know that defense wins games!  This team has pulled together after the loss of Delp and established themselves as a tough, hardworking bunch...not hardly flashy...but solid.
Good Luck to Coach Giovanne and the Augustana Vikings!  Win or lose...you have had a great season to date and we're looking forward to more games in the CCIW Tournament as well as the NCAA Tournament.  Go Vikes...Beat the Titans!!!
