i understand that the forum is made for opinions to be stated when they normally cant be stated but there's a correct way to do everything. and just going on about one player not being as good as someone thinks they should be in the manner that some people on here do is just ridiculous. granted, i dont have any connection with any of the players from any team so its not like i'm picking a side and being mad about it but negative statements like that should be kept to a mininmum. but the thing i was most bothered by was how the players personal lives were being brought into perspective. i mean to go so far as to say that you seen some players at bars sometimes the night before and after games is just not right. but dont think i dont understand what you're saying either

Welcome to CCIW Chat.  With a handle like "thegreatest" and what seems to be the ego to go along with it, you should fit right in.

I completely agree with you about the personal lives of the players, (for that matter, the coaches, players parents, etc).  Personal lives are just that, and in my opinion, generally do not belong on this or any d3hoops board.

Thanks for the insight, Carthage King person.

If you did see Carthage players at bars before and after games, then that's what you saw, and you felt the need to share that.  If anybody has a problem with that, then go tell the players to stay out of the bars before and after the games, and people won't get negative feelings towards them, as CK has expressed.  If they were 7-2, not too many people would probably care or notice.

Moral of the story is that athletes (even at little DIII's) are watched closely by other students and fans.  Their actions (whether positive or negative) are much more noticeable and subject to scrutiny.  IF SOME of the Carthage players are doing what CK has observed, then they need to start winning, and people will get off their backs.

I'm assuming that "thegreatest" is a student at Carthage.  For all of our sakes, please use some of your grammar skills that you've picked up in college on your next post. (Holy crap, I sound like Sager!)

Once again in your vain glorious attempt to discredit someone who actually knows more about the game than you

And that "someone" would be ... who? The guy who bashed NPU's rebounding when the Vikings have actually outrebounded their opponents this season? The guy who completely missed the two biggest problems with this year's Vikings, turnovers and poor shooting? The guy who once said on CCIW Chat that Lamar Townsend was a point guard?

Thanks for the laugh, Dennis! :D :D :D

As for your backpedaling about NPU's "macho" man-to-man defense, say what you mean the first time that you say it. If you're going to critique the team's m2m D, don't praise them unequivocally with phrases such as "the North Park guards gave a wonderful exhibition of playing tough man-to-man defense" and then in subsequent clauses begin picking apart specific areas such as switches, fighting through screens, etc. When you make an absolute statement of approval with no room for qualifications in one clause and then begin nitpicking in subsequent clauses you only make your point incoherent. You used to be a writer, Dennis; I shouldn't have to explain narrative clarity to you.

Dennis is off the mark in his evaluation of this season's Vikings, but his point about Brenegan in response to Q is a relevant one. As Rees Johnson's primary assistant, Brenegan did bear some responsibility for NPU's chronic second-division finishes and recruiting woes during the six years of the Johnson era. There have been whispers around the league about that very issue since he was hired a year and a half ago as head coach: Why was Brenegan hired when his only significant coaching credential is a bad one?

Don't doubt for a moment that he isn't aware of this. Because of his complicity in Johnson's failure he has even more to prove than do other head coaches in rebuilding situations. But North Park didn't hire him because of his resume. The NPU administration hired him because he has an intelligent and incisive basketball mind, real potential as a teacher of the game, a tireless work ethic, and a genuine and positive personality that reflects well upon both the program and the school as a whole.

None of that ultimately matters is he doesn't build a winner. Wins and losses are the bottom-line benchmark for any coach. Q says that a coach should get until the end of his third year before he's evaluated. The industry rule of thumb is that a coach gets four years, or one generation of recruiting, to prove himself.

One disastrous year has come and gone. The second has seen an influx of some good young players, but as I illustrated this morning the team as a whole is as green as day-old bananas. This will be a very trying season that requires a lot of patience on everyone's part, and the thing to do is to look for incremental improvement, both in the players as individuals and in the team as a whole. By next year, though, the team will definitely need to show some forward momentum in terms of wins and losses -- and in the CCIW, too, not just by racking up 10-1 or 9-2 records against the likes of Judson, CURF, and Westminster (MO).

???  I had to say this out loud a couple of times to make heads or tails of it.  So he isn't aware of it?  From the context, I think maybe you mean "Don't believe for a moment that he isn't aware of this."

Or perhaps "He's aware of this."  :)

Wheaton C is around (the gentleman of the CCIW).  He just lurks most of the time.

Now I get to ask if Titan Hammer is around?  Bob?

I didn't proofread it because I was out the door and on my way to work as soon as I wrote it, David. I also had a typo in the first sentence of the third paragraph. I would've proofread and edited the post once I got here to the office, but since you've pre-empted that I'll just leave it the way it is so that anyone who reads this conversation won't be even more confused.  ;)

first off, you dont know me and i dont know you either so dont assume what you dont know. i am everything far from a college student so that statement about me you just made was really uncalled for. secondly, i'm not saying that carthage isnt losing cause hell anyone can see that and i think its terrible how they've been performing too....but once again all i am saying is dont try to put those kind of personal comments against why they are losing. what any player at any level of basketball does in their personal time has no bearing on what goes on during the game. it shouldnt be a topic of anyone's conversation cause its not fair to the players you talk about and anyone else it involves.

and what does grammar skills have to do with anything? what is that supposed to mean?

petemcb

What DO grammar skills have to do with anything will read a little better.... ;D

Pete I KNOW what your saying I can say the same thing and over and over again it's REDICULOUS ...  :D

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Bad a) grammar, b) typing, c) use of punctuation, d) spelling.

And Sager and Prikkel are having their traditional and festive "I bleed more North Park blue and gold than you do," tiff.  Awwwww, how cute!

Wow, somehow I got negative karma all of a sudden.  I'm going to the doctor.
