All in good fun, Warren, all in good fun.

When I was at NPC there was a lot of 'penis envy' among the faculty at North Park ....

Say what? "Penis envy" as "all in good fun" amongst Evangelical institutions?

No, no, strike that -- I'm not going there.  :o

okay... everyone go take a cold shower  :P

You people are all so literal-minded! ;)

I could totally identify with what Dennis meant, since my office is on the 7th floor of a building where it is a good day if 2 of the 4 elevators are working, and where some classrooms are 50 degrees while others are 85 degrees (and where I have learned to bring my own chalk).

Still, on CCIW Chat there is NO WAY I would have used that term!  (Unless, of course, I WANTED to play straight-man for the inevitable rejoinders!) ;D

David Collinge

It appears what Dennis meant was "envy," rather than "penis envy," which is altogether another thing.  Then again, in an earlier post he referred to a group of yes-men as a "Greek chorus," suggesting that he likes to use clever phrases even if he doesn't know what they mean.  Especially if they sound naughty.  ::)

Gentlemen, I predict North Central will upset IWU at their place!  Bringing back memories of 1990 when the great Robert Brown, Mike Roy, Alonzo Alexander, Mike Patterson, and Daryl Thompson roamed the Cardinal campus!!  That was the last year NCC was in the big dance and IWU returned the favor at our place after we blew a 10-0 lead to start the game!  Those were the good ole days!!!

CP Keep dreamin of those good ole days.  You can join Sager and the king comparing to the NP national championship teams.  As Hiker Jim posted, "It's not gonna happen this year"

Mr. Ypsi

David,

Good post!  But since NO intelligent person will admit to being a Freudian anymore, I STILL  understood what KD meant!  (Sigmund was ahead of his time in many ways, but unfortunately he was wrong about 99% of the time!)

From the Elmhurst website here are the Bluejay Classic Results:

Olivet College (mich.) 77 - Buena Vista 67
Elmhurst 77 - Marian Wisc. 60

Martin led the way with 22.  Michael added in 13.  Elmhurst was only up 3 at half but really pulled away in 2H.  Looking forward to watching the championship tomorrow.

Elmhurst vs. Olivet - 4:00 PM

Good luck Jays!
Go Elmhurst!

bluejaybacker1

Elmhurst 77
Marian    60

In the first half Elmhurst decided defense was an optional and gave Marian too many easy buckets. They played much better in the second half. Staters left with 6 mins left. Mr. Gershenzon made his first apperance in the last 7 games which was good to see. He hit his first 3 and ended up with 5 for the game in limited action. Not a great game for the Jays, but we'll take the win.

Some stats:
Martin 22pts, 9 brds
Michael 13pts, 8 brds
Bacon and Patchett both had 9pts

Rebounds: Elm 47, Marian 22.....Elmhurst had 17 off. boards against a much smaller Marian team. Elmhurst came out in the second half after only leading by 3 and put them away pretty quickly. The Jays were a little sloppy with the ball tonight with some really poor turnovers. Tomorrow we take on Olivet who beat Buena Vista 77-67 @4pm.

The Roop

Ypsibonney/Cabonnilanti,

The only thing Freud ever became was a way out for people when they accidentally said something they meant to but were too afraid, or otherwise unable, to qualify their statements. The modern day equivalent of which is "Sorry, my bad. It's all good".

Example: "Hello Miss, I find that you are in great need of a spanking tonight"

"WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Sorry, my bad. It's all good".

Tonight's IWU/Illinois College game from Jacksonville can be heard on WJBC2.com with the pregame starting at 7:15pm.

http://www.wjbc2.com/

IWU is much bigger than IC...

Titans
G Adam Dauksas (6-3/190, Sr)
G Jason Fisher (6-2/210, Sr)
F Keelan Amelianovich (6-6/210, Sr)
F Cory Jones (6-6/215, Sr)
C Zach Freeman (6-7/210, Sr)

Blueboys
G Brandon Bachman (5-10/180, Jr)
G Mark Gillingham (6-0/175, Fr)
F Mitchell Hurliman (6-2/195, Sr)
F Joe Womble (6-4/205, So)
C Mitchell Neally (6-5/195, So)

IC's leading scorer is freshman Mark Gillingham, who is going to be a very good player in the MWC.  He averaged 26.5 pts and 8.9 rebounds as a senior at Carrollton H.S. last year and made all of the Class A all-state teams...

The Titans should roll in this game as long as their minds aren't on Hanover (Tuesday at IWU).

The Park's biggest rival back then was Wheaton. Didn't matter that Wheaton, with a couple of exceptions, really didn't have good basketball teams at all from the time that they re-entered the league in the late sixties to the arrival of Bill Harris on campus in the early nineties. Nor did it matter that Wheaton was completely indifferent to North Park's collective animosity, or to basketball itself for that matter for most of the years I've been around. (It's a soccer school, and don't let Mugsy or Diehardfan tell you any different. If the Park keeps beating the Wheaties on the soccer pitch the way that they have over the past two autumns, our evangelical brethren in DuPage County will finally come around to reciprocating our ill will.) ;)

It's been implicitly understood by all Parkers for generations that Wheaton was and is the ultimate despised enemy. North Park students got more revved up for Wheaton's arrival on campus than for any other CCIW team throughout the eighties and nineties, and they would go to the game at Wheaton en masse.

Wheaton will always be NPU's biggest rival ... right up until the day when the Lord returns and asks the Wheaties why they picked the wrong school.  :D

I've always found it fascinating the differing level of intensity between the North Park and Wheaton view of the rivalry.  Now I'm not saying that Wheaton is indifferent to North Park, not by a long shot.  But in discussions with my wife, an NPC alum... I've gotten an inside look at how much some (most) Parkers detest Wheaton.  I think Greg hits on a big point... if NPU would beat Wheaton a bit more frequently in soccer and bball (over the past decade) and more than once every 25 years in Football, then "the love" might be reciprocated and then just think of the fun!

My desire to beat NPU came out of the fact I grew up in a Covenant church and after choosing to go to Wheaton, all I ever heard was "North Park this..." and "North Park that..."  It became a competition against those in my church who went to North Park and those who attended Wheaton.  I go to Glen Ellyn Covenant Church so there is almost a 50/50 split of North Park alum and Wheaton alum in the congregation.

BTW: Having been around the Wheaton campus for over 20 years as player and a coach, having been roommates and life long friends with Coach Beans son, I don't think Wheaton could be characterized as a "soccer" school.  While both the men and women have had dominate programs for a long time, I just don't get the feel from the student body that it's all soccer.  Honestly I think there is quite a balance of support amongst football and soccer.  Personally, I'd characterize Wheaton as a "Library" school.  Close the library during sporting events and Wheaton might actually pack the stands for most sport events. :P

I'll bet the IWU vs U. of Illinois game turns out to be more competitive than the IWU vs Illinois College game.  I don't see the Blueboys only being down 6 at half and being tied in the 2nd half (as IWU was vs the Illini)!

veterancciwfan

Not to be overlooking IWU's next 2 games, but the IWU/Puget Sound game on Dec. 29 at Westmont should be a fun game to witness. PS, at 4-1, is averaging 91 and gives up 76 a game. Run & gun squared is a definite possibility. The teams from the Northwest seem to play the "first guy down the floor shoots" type of offense. I remember the Lewis and Clark team that compted in the U. of Chicago D3 sectional in 2001, Bridges' last year. They played the Maroons in the 2nd game and their shot selection amazed everyone. They had a big guard who played with a headband. He was unbashful in taking numerous 28 ft. jumpers and his coach seemed to encourage it. Naturally, U. of C. won the game on Friday and lost to IWU, who beat Elmhurst, for the right to go to Salem. If it wasn't for IWU, Wash U. and Chicago both would have made recent Final 4 appearances.
