I have some earlier incarnation of Streets and Trips, like maybe 2001 or so, and it is the silliest program I have ever seen.  One example that remains vivid is when I wanted to go from Pendleton, Oregon to Wallace, Idaho, then get off I-90 and go on some Forest Service roads.  S&T actually advised that I stay on I-90 eastbound through Wallace, continue on almost to Missoula, Montana, then exit I-90, take "local roads" for 0.1 miles, get on I-90 westbound and go back to Wallace, getting off where I had intended to get off in the first place.  This bizarre instruction added well over 100 miles to my itinerary.  Try as I might, I never could bend the program to my will; it always insisted that I go well into Montana, then turn around and return on the same road before it would let me exit in Idaho.  ::)

It's a miserable program for actually advising on what roads to take to get from point A to point B (which is why I never use it for that purpose), but as my example shows, blindly relying on its mileage estimate may also be foolhardy.

Maybe the NCAA has selected this program because intensive research shows that the name "Microsoft Streets and Trips 2004" can't be construed as offensive to any subculture?  ;)

Is Andy Phillips at Hope fully recovered from last year's injury?  I guess I'm asking will he be hyped up like he was in the pre-season of 2004-05?

Does anyone have any info on how the Titans played in their last two games in Costa Rica?  I have not seen any articles in The Pantagraph nor any posts in here.

I think there was some discussion if you page back through the posts on the board here. Didn't have enough info from IWU to do a story on it, but I think there was discussion. You might try a search (button at the top of the page) for Costa Rica. I'm sure there hasn't been too much discussion of Costa Rica aside from the IWU trip.

Mr. Ypsi

Q reported the first games (pp 7,8 of Chat), but I suspect the Schmied tragedy put the rest of the games out of his mind - no reports on the final games.

Pat, I did the search for 'Costa Rica', but it only posted your immediate past post (I set it for 'search all') - any clue what I did wrong?

Yes Ypsi, I figured as much.  I saw we won 2 out of the first 3, but hadn't heard anything on the final 2 games.  As I mentioned, I never saw anything in the Bloomington Pantagraph either.  I'm sure Stew Salowitz (assuming he still is the SID at IWU) had plenty on his mind to worry about that week, all things considered.

Question that I know will get answered here.  How do the D3 games vs D1 opponents affect the D3 team's record?   Do they count?  And are there differences in the scheduling of the games?  For instance, IWU plays U of I in early November in a game referred to as an exhibition - does it count against IWU's game limits or in their record?  Now then, Anderson plays Ball State on 12/17 with no mention of exhibition - is it different from the IWU-U of I matchup.
Is it an actual game vs an exhibition game???   Your help is always appreciated.

Starting last year it was permissible for D-III teams to play exhibition games against D-I teams. It's also still possible, of course, that they could play a regular-season game.

These exhibition games do indeed count against the 25-game schedule limit. They don't count on their record.

I think the exhibitions also have to be played, by rule, before D-III's opening day of the Friday before Thanksgiving.

Thanks Pat, so they are different - the "exhibition" games are not counted in the record; the regularly scheduled games (ie, the anderson - Ball St game I mentioned) would count in Anderson's record.   I'm playing with some spreadsheets and wasn't sure how to include the 2 types of D1 games.

Thanks Q.  I missed the Pantagraph article last Saturday.  Must have had a hangover or something.

Q, sorry!

Since Pat upgraded the sites, I've been going directly to them - I forgot to check YOUR site!!

(Come bball season, I sure hope I don't forget IWUHoops.com!)

I caught the Tribune piece on the IWU fball game (posted by someone, I guess on the CCIW fball board) - "Mama" Schmied sounds like one helluva lady!  If you see her, tell her her family is even larger than '97 sons' - she's got THOUSANDS of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, etc.!

One might be suprised to see that IWU lost to the Barbados National Team.  I'm not, because as we've seen over the past several years with the Olympics and other world events, it is fair to say that "everybody is catching up", even the small island nations.  I'm sure Barbados had several tremendously athletic players, which would obviously cause problems for most DIII teams, even the elite such as IWU.  However, it appeared to be a close game, and I believe IWU didn't play totally up to par.  In their defense, I'm don't know many teams that could be hitting on all cylinders in August, in another country with a warm ocean breeze altering a three point shot or free throw,  a few swarms of bugs buzzing around the arena, and intense humidity to top it all off.  Nevertheless, I'm sure it was a great trip, in that not many people get the chance to do something like that.  I know the players will appreciate the experience for many years to come.
