AndOne- Physicality is a big part of the game no matter the level but let's face it, if you are skilled enough and play the game smart there is always a spot for you.  Just ask Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin.  I'm talking about Stephen Curry for those that are a little confused.

AndOne

Point taken mm.

However, if you are talking about Stephen Curry, well-----there is skill and there is skill.

Also, Mr. Curry's weight is 185, not 165.

IWU fans-----

Information please------- :)

I have never seen Rosenkranz play. I have seen several pictures of him in action and I was struck by the fact  that I didn't see even one in which he doesn't look quite thin/frail. So much so, in fact, that I would worry about his ability to take much of a physical pounding at all. And, we all know how physical things can get in the CCIW. My question is---is he really as frail as he appears in the pics I have seen of him or are my eyes just deceiving me due to either the camera angle or the fact I just can't see very well at my advanced age?

A reminder, AndOne, that IWU's thin freshmen guards had solid first seasons in the CCIW...

Rosenkranz: 9.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.0 apg, 2.0 A:TO ratio - started all 14 games, 34 min/game
Johnson: 12.9 ppg, 2.6 apg (3rd Team All-CCIW) - started all 14 games, 35 min/game

Thin or not, a skilled perimeter play can compete as a freshman.  A post that lacks muscle is another story.

IWU's 2008-09 schedule...

http://www.iwuhoops.com/sch09.doc

Non-conference games are:

@ Manchester Tournament, 2 games (other teams - Kalamazoo and NAIA from IN?)
vs Maryville (Mo.)
@ Olivet Nazarene
@ Wash U Lopata Classic, 2 games (other teams - Hamilton and ?)
@ Hanover
vs Chicago
@ Northwood U. tournament (West Palm Beach, FL), 2 games
vs Illinois College

Northwood's head coach is Rollie Massimino and assistant is Dennis Hopson (Ohio State '87)...

http://www.northwood.edu/fl/athletics/teams/mens/basketball/

Looking at their roster, there appear to be some serious ringers here...

http://www.northwood.edu/fl/athletics/teams/mens/basketball/roster/
Is that optimistically 6 in-region games?

On that same note...
I'm not entirely familiar with what schools are in what regions....

How many in-region games would Wheaton have from its non-conference schedule?

Ohio Wesleyan, UW Eau Claire, Coll. of Staten Island (playing 2 of these 3, at Lee Pfund Classic)

Loras, U Chicago, Webster, Grinnell, Wartburg (I'm assuming these are in-region)

2 games at a Wittenberg tournament (is Wittenberg in-region?)

And Hope and Calvin (out of region, I guess)

11 nonconference games, possibly 9 in-region?

Yes.  I know Ron Rose tried very hard to find an in-region game to replace Olivet Nazarene and was unsuccessful.    And IWU, of course, is at the mercy of pairings (and the field) in the Manchester and Wash U tournaments.  Maryville (Mo.) was actually an addition to provide another in-region game.

I hope North Park announces some more recruits soon - seems like all the other CCIW schools are really loading up with some quality talent!

The following was in my email this morning.

From the desk of Head Coach Paul Brenegan
Recruiting News
Head Coach Paul Brenegan and staff are pleased to announce the additions of Joel Benson and Dawon Mitchell to the North Park University men's basketball program.

Benson is from Westminster Christian High School in Elgin, Illinois. The 6'5", 225-pound forward helped the Warriors to an overall 18-9 record, a second-place finish in the Private School League, and a sectional semi-final berth. Benson averaged 18.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game and was named Private School Player of the Year this season. He was tabbed to several All-State teams including the IBCA Class 1A/2A Second-Team All-State and the Associated Press Class 1A All-State honorable mention team. We are very excited to have Joel joining our men's basketball family here at North Park. He brings much needed size and strength to our front line which is something we needed to address for next year. Joel can score in a variety of ways and takes pride on the defensive end of the floor. We expect big things from Joel in the years to come.

Mitchell is from Saint Joseph's High School in Westchester, Illinois. Mitchell was a key reserve for the Chargers this past season and helped them to an overall record 20-6 (11-2 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference) and a regional final appearance. Mitchell stands 6'5" and weighs 190 pounds. "Dawon is a long, athletic guy whose best basketball is ahead of him. He is a great program kid who we feel will have a bright future in our program. We are very happy Dawon has decided to be a North Park Viking," comments Coach Brenegan.

DoS
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

The Maryville game COULD be a better than usual SLIAC game for IWU - I say COULD as I have  no idea what type of roster changes might occur as Maryville starts the process to move to Division 2.  There may be some student athletes who may consider transfer out, and I have no idea what the impact on recruiting will be.

IF no one goes away, Maryville loses just one player of significance, strong rebounder and team leader Casey Holland.   A cast of 13 to 15 players could be back, many who saw significant playing time the last year or two years - their improvement towards the end of the season was obvious when they won several crucial games in the last several weeks of the regular season, then beat Undefeated (in league) Webster in the conference semis, and played a great one point loss game vs Fontbonne in the championship game.
I have rarely, if ever, seen a team mature the way Maryville did in the 2nd half of the 07-08 season.   I'm just so disappointed they are deserting D3 and the SLIAC for a move down to D2
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I doubt any recruits brought in on the speculation they might be offering partial scholarships in a couple of years are going to have a big impact on a game in November of this year.

Didn't work for Chowan, didn't work for Lincoln, didn't work for Lake Erie ...

And One hopes that student-athletes make make postsecondary educational decisions "based more on how a school can teach, challenge, nurture, and promote their educational and professional goals rather than the amount of PT they will get and how soon."

Don't be deluded.  Wrestlers pick Augsburg due to team strength.  Hockey players chose UW-Superior because they want to compete beyond high school.  Basketball players chose Georgetown to play ball.  I admit these are generalities.  These student-athletes will receive an education, but I believe the success of a team and playing time are often the primary motivation when selecting a school, and the educational perks are secondary.

I'm confused.... Hope is in-region but Calvin is not? that hardly seems reasonable... they're both MIAA teams....

It's all based on actual distance, not conference.
