Here's a rundown of Augustana's non conference schedule for 2008-09:

Road games - Simpson, U of Chicago, St. Ambrose, UW La Crosse, Cornell,
                     MacMurray, and Beloit

Home games - Wash U., UW OshKosh, Knox, and Coe
24 in-region games!   :)

I realize there is a track and field board, but this is THE board for the CCIW!  The IWU women complemented their indoor national title with a national co-championship outdoors (not bad for a third place conference team)! ;)

The bad news (for us, anyway) is that Rachel Anderson is graduating. :'(  By winning the 200 and 400 meters, and anchoring the 3rd place 4x100 and 6th place 4x400 relays, she earned or contributed to 29 of their 35 points.  Our hopes now turn to sophomore Ali McCoy (who took third in the 200, and was lead-off runner for the 4x100 and 4x400 relays), plus somehow winning some points other than in dashes!

Wheaton finished tied for 33rd, with Brandi McNeil gaining all 8 points with a second place finish in the javelin.  Augie tied for 44th, with Marissa Banks gaining their six points putting the shot.  NCC tied for 67th when Rachel Secrest and Allison Worley tied for 7th in the pole vault.

On the men's side (no breakdown on who did what), Augie placed 16th, IWU tied for 25th, Elmhurst tied for 29th, NCC tied for 35th, and Wheaton tied for 45th.

Just reviewed the results again - a correction: Marissa Banks did not qualify for the finals in shot put; her third place finish was in discus.

Does anyone know if Wheaton is done recruiting?

Unfortunately, after a late cancellation, Wash U has been unable to find a 4th team for their annual Lopata Classic.  So now it will be a rare 3-team tournament...

25th Annual Lopata Classic – December 5-7, 2008 – St. Louis, Mo.
Fri., Dec. 5 – Washington University vs. Hamilton College - 8 p.m.
Sat., Dec. 6 - Illinois Wesleyan University vs. Hamilton College - 3 p.m.
Sun., Dec. 7 - Washington University vs. Illinois Wesleyan University - 3 p.m.

Speaking of Wash U., does anyone have any info on their recruiting class?

I think East-West might have an opening, Q. ::)

It's been mentioned here before, but they're getting Dylan Richter (Stevenson), who is supposed to be good.

I recently heard they might be getting Sean Kane (Carmel H.S.) from Brown U...

They're picking up Alex Toth, a 6'6" big from Prospect High School, coached most recently by IWU alum John Camardella.  He's physically very strong and most likes to shoot from the perimeter.

I'd be pretty surprised if Toth ever makes a big impact at Wash U.

As would I, but he has the strength and willingness to grab some defensive rebounds, his perimeter shot is a factor for a guy his size, and he is a streaky player who, when he heats up, can provide a nice run of momentum.  Not predicting an all-conference career, though.

Agree Pete...serviceable, but not All-UAA.

We'll see.

For what it's worth, MidStateHoops.com ranked 6-9/220 IWU recruit Eric McCullough as the 11th best post player in the Illinois Class of 2008 and fellow future Titan Ryan Connolly (6-8/255) as the 24th best big guy.  Elmhurst recruit Nate Swarts (Monticello) is #20 in that post ranking.

In the "wing guards" category, IWU's Jordan Zimmer is #24 and Elmhurst's Zack Boyd is #25.

They have McCullough as the 39th best senior overall in the state's senior class - he's the only D3 recruit in their Top 50.

Your thoughts and prayers for recent IWU graduate, and IWU basketball player, Kevin Bryant are appreciated.  Kevin was in a very bad white water rafting accident yesterday in Colorado.

Below is an e-mail sent today by Jason Bloom.  Again, thanks for keeping Kevin in your prayers.

-----
For anyone who hasn't heard, KB was in an accident rafting in Colorado yesterday and is currently in a medically induced comma.

After a recent communication with KB's mom Teresa, here is what she had to say.

She said she had been trying to get KB to respond and thought he just squeezed her hand.  She said the doctor's are most worried about the damage to his lungs - he took in a lot of fluid and gunk. She also said they were trying to reduce the sedation so they could try to determine what the status of his brain activity is - I can't even hardly type that because it seems so unreal.

She said that from what they are hearing so far, he will likely have an extended hospital stay as it will take some time for him to recover but she is optimistic that he will.  She said his face was pretty banged up as was his right hand but other than that, he seemed pretty good physically.

She also mentioned that the doctors are thinking he was under more like 3 minutes which is better than they had heard originally.  The boys who were with him had done a great job getting him out (he was trapped under the raft) and had successfully done CPR quickly.

Keep thinking about him and praying for him.  As long as we all pull together hard enough, I think we can pull him through.  We all know he'd do the same for us.

Some people have requested a location and address to send things to be there when he wakes up:

Medical Center of the Rockies Room 2108
2500 Rocky Mountain Ave.
Loveland, CO  80538
Hospital ICU Phone:  970-624-2100

I'll keep everyone posted as best I can.  Again, if anyone is tough enough to get through this it's KB.

Feel free to email or call me.

God, what terrible news. I never really met Kevin, but I have met his parents and younger brother, David and talked with them several times this past season.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin---and please pass this on to the family if you have any form contact with them.

I will inform the North Central staff if they have not already heard about the accident, and I believe I can speak on their behalf when I say that their thoughts and prayers can be counted on to be added to the force of get well thoughts and wishes that will combine to help lift Kevin to a victory over and recovery from his injuries.

While we all battle each other during the season, the combined power of the entire  CCIW's thoughts and prayers can come together to help Kevin make his toughest shot.
