I Will now be the first CCIW Chat poster to mention Rob Berki and Jack Sikma in the same sentence.

All-time CCIW players who's primary offensive move was often thought to be traveling by opposing coaches.

1. Rob Berki
2. Jack Sikma

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

KM, he can still shoot it better than most of the kids he trains.  His son, Kyle, after being coached by Dennis at Mundelein HS in the northern Chicago suburbs, went on to Texas A & M as their point guard and as a leftie pitcher for A & M's baseball team.  He got as far as AAA and 40 man roster in the Astros organization after being drafted by the Mets, but never made it to a major league game as far as I know.  Dennis is running a basketball training and AAU business.  They compete as the Kessel Heat.

Dennis Kessell was my drivers ed instructor at Mundelein.  One day all the other kids in the car were absent so Mr. Kessell and I drove around and talked sports the whole time.  Very likeable guy, and was a good coach at Mundelein for many years.

Darius Gant was definitely a more talented athlete than was Woods -- in fact, I can think of a bunch of CCIW power forwards who had more athletic talent than Woods -- but what I liked about Woods was that he maxed out his ability every game that I ever saw him play. He had what coaches call a "motor", and he was tough as nails.

Woods had a very low body fat percentage.  He was solid.  His vertical jump was not very high.  As you said, lots of production for his skills.

Guess you can't assume anything.  What was the problem?  Were you a Cubs fan?  I've never seen a more diehard (if I can still use that term on this board...... ;)) White Sox fan than Dennis Kessel.  That might have been the problem.  Maybe I'll get a chance to check with him tonight at his camp that my daughter is at.  I gotcher back, although a little late.

Recruiting News------

With the completion of all necessary paperwork and official enrollment, North Central has announced the transfer of 6'7"  Cameron Sweatman from DI Bradley University.

Cameron played his high school ball at Calvary Academy in Springfield, IL where he averaged 10.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg. In his senior season, he had 61 blocks. After his senior campaign at Calvary, Cameron enrolled at Lake Forest Academy for a 5th prep season in 06-07. While at LFA, he averaged 10 ppg. He then accepted Bradley's offer to walk-on last season during which he red-shirted and practiced with the team, but, of course, did not play. Accordingly, he still has 4 years of eligibility remaining.
He will provide some inside scoring help while being a force on the defensive end, particularly on the boards.

Cameron is the nephew of Todd Sweatman, assistant hoops coach at Illinois College of the MWC.

Nice, Denny coached my dad at Franklin Center many moons ago....the Kessel's are family friends of ours. Kyle had some arm issues and had to retire from baseball years ago, and I believe he now works with his dad doing basketball camps. I used to stay at their house for bball camps when I was a kid, he's a great teacher. If I'm not mistaken, isn't he an IHSA Hall of Fame coach? His daughters were some really good athlete's (volleyball) as well. Good bloodlines!

With only 3 and a half months until the 3-time CCIW champion Vikings open up the basketball season,  does anyone have any info on how Jordan Delp's rehab is going?  I understand he was granted a med redshirt last yr and was hoping to return for a 4th yr of eligibility.

Just dreaming.....what IF............Delp never tore his Achilles and was hitting 3's against Wash U. on the fateful March night!!!

Mike---

Not to rain on your parade, but what if Wash U's Sean Wallis, a D3Hoops 3rd team pre-season All-American guard, never suffered a season ending injury after, I believe, only 3 games last season?
If both play, the final result is prob the same as it was when neither played.

Something completely unrelated to basketball but with a CCIW connection.  I saw the movie The Visitor last night. An outstanding movie, which is generating best actor Oscar buzz for its star, Richard Jenkins, IWU '69.  It is still playing in a few theaters around town so if you are looking for a very good movie to see - that is not animated or features a superhero, check out The Visitor.

Jenkins will probably be seen by many more people in Step Brothers.

Who is to say what would have happened if both Delp and Wallis were still playing in the Augustana Regional last year.  Agreed Wallis would have made them even tougher to beat but...Delp was the leading scorer and heart of this Viking team when he went down.  I know it sure would have given us a better chance to beat them had we had an outside presence on that night.  Delp is an excellent 3 pt shooter and would have deserved some extra attention from the Bears.

That being said...Wash U was the slightly better team in overtime on that night.  They took every punch from the Vikes in a very hostile environment.  Their center played like the All-American he was and they had some timely 3pt shooting in overtime that sealed the win.  It was a tremendous game to watch and had the intesity of a championship game!

Here's hoping this year's Vikings can return the favor and knock Wash U and Wallis out of the tourney on THEIR way to a national championship.  And having Delp's leadership and deadly shooting will be key to Augie's success in the post season.

Mike--

1. For the record---If its Augie vs Wash U, while I certainly can't be classified as an Augie fan, I hope the Vikings bag some Bear(s). Call it CCIW solidarity.
That being said, I guess some Augie fan felt compelled to ding me for even suggesting the result would have been the same in the game you referenced whether both Delp and Wallis played or neither played.

2. With regard to your paragraph beginning with "who is to say.....," nobody can state with certainty what would have happened. However, I think the odds favor a situation where the loss of a potential all-american and a team leader means a little more than the loss of a very good shooter.

3. You are certainly correct in saying Delp's presence would have helped Augie that night. But, you can't deny Wallis' would have had the same effect for Wash U. Hence, likely the same result,
