I also strongly recommend The Visitor, featuring Richard Jenkins.  I believe the film is being shown at IWU the Thursday evening before IWU's Homecoming this fall.  I think Homecoming weekend is the first weekend in October.  I understand Richard Jenkins will be attending the viewing and speaking about the film following.

Something completely unrelated to basketball but with a CCIW connection.  I saw the movie The Visitor last night. An outstanding movie, which is generating best actor Oscar buzz for its star, Richard Jenkins, IWU '69.  It is still playing in a few theaters around town so if you are looking for a very good movie to see - that is not animated or features a superhero, check out The Visitor.

Jenkins will probably be seen by many more people in Step Brothers.

NPU's biggest brush with pop culture fame may be alumnus Eric Remschneider, a session musician who has been a sideman both onstage and in the studio for Smashing Pumpkins and Filter. As far as I know, nobody from North Park has ever had anything more than a bit part in a Hollywood movie, although a Judd Hirsch made-for-TV movie was filmed on the campus back in the '80s, and some local company once shot a Scottie Pippen commercial in the crackerbox.

I remember being prepared to grudgingly give Wheaton props for being the alma mater of the lovely and talented actress Catherine Keener, sometime in between her appearances in Being John Malkovich and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Then I found out that she attended the other Wheaton, the one in Massachusetts.

Oh, well. At least Wil Wheaton owns a Wheaton (IL) College sweatshirt, which is more than can be said for any other CCIW school. ;)

Josh Church is in the Carlson Crazy Hall of Fame as far as I'm concerned, right up there with Speedo Rollerskate Guy, Female Kangaroo Guy, and Rally Toad Guy. I knew Josh a little while he was at NPU. He's very likeable -- I absolutely love the fact that he picked North Park because he was an out-of-state Cubs fan (thanks to WGN) who wanted to attend a college near Wrigley Field. But ... well, read my post again. I said nothing about "doing quite well" in the entertainment field. I said "pop culture fame" when I discussed the likes of Catherine Keener and (very ironically) Eric Remschneider (whom none of you would recognize if you passed him on the street) in response to Martin's post about longtime Hollywood character actor and IWU alumnus Richard Jenkins.

The number of movie producers who enjoy any name recognition whatsoever outside of entertainment industry circles can be counted upon one's fingers, and Josh ain't one of them. And unless I've really missed the boat on this one, and playing Fainting Guy in Talladega Nights and Restaurant Patron in an ep of Driftwood were in fact very subtle star-turn cameos for Josh, I don't think that we can fit him into the "pop culture fame" category just yet.

I'm not picking on Josh. I wish him all the luck in the world in Tinseltown, and then some. But he doesn't fit this "pop culture fame" discussion. Not yet, at least.

(Of course, Remschneider doesn't either, except in an ironic sense. So if you were being ironic as well ... touche'. ;))

Here's where Eric made his name playing the cello:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQtLoJlQD6E

Although I may be wrong, my understanding is that Eric was also a hired gun as a bass player for Courtney Love's band - Hole.  I don't think he did that for long - just a tour or something.

....about as long as Courtney Love's cup of coffee.

Congrats-----

To North Central Assistant Coach Chad Murray who was married over the weekend.  ;D

Talk about a miracle win---somehow he finally convinced his beautiful and charming lady to say "I do." Following their nuptials, Chad and his (much) "better half," Jena, are off on a Brazilian honeymoon during which, rumor has it, Chad promised no more than a couple of side trip/recruiting excursions.   ???

This board has not been its usual entertaining-self this summer.  Let me try to jump-start something:

True or false: Spinoza.

Second try (though try to keep the politics out of it :D):

TIME
cover story: 'What Bush Got Right'.  Shortest article in publishing history?

Third try:

The Titans will shock the world (or the d3 part of it) by finishing second in the CCIW, but getting to Salem.  (Actually, I think they are at least a year away, but that green kool-aid is just SO yummy! ;D)

Mr. Ypsi

Thanks, Pete (I think) ;D

C'mon, CCIW Chat, you're letting down the legacy! :o

OK, 4th try: with Adu and Bradley already out, was red card in 3rd minute overkill to knock the men's soccer team out?  (Women still in.)

5th try:  are ANY of the Chinese 'women's' gymnasts 16?  Favorite for the overall gold medal, He(!), is by Chinese sources themselves either 13 or 14.

Final(?) Try: Given their record in recent seasons, Augie will almost certainly be picked first.  Any dissenters?  And if not, who is second?

Considering the content of your post, it's just as well that Pete's terse reply is the only one you got.

Pleasepleasepleaseplease no Bible schools this year. I know that it was not Todd Raridon's fault, because he had to replace a late cancellation, but that game against the Bible school in last season's NCC Tip-Off Tourney was an embarrassment.
