After opening today's mail I was reminded yet again of the joys of marriage.  I received a notice from State Farm of my $8.35 "Multi-car Discount" on my Auto policy.

It's truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Bob---

I thought you were already enjoying that discount with it previously having been applied to the Bentley and Rolls!  ;D   ::)

If you get excited by a multi-car discount wait until you do your taxes!

Titan Q,
Bertrand/ Collins most athletic at4/5 what about Drennan/Rogers @ NCC

Athletically, I do not think it is close.

Cardfan----

No offense to Matt and Chris, but I do think Bertrand/Collins would have to be classified as the most athletic forward duo. On the other hand, I firmly believe Matt Rogers and Chris Drennan are the best forward combo in the league.

I'm with Bob and AO on this one. Bertrand/Collins would be the most athletic 4/5 combo in the league; Drennan/Rogers is the most productive 4/5 combo in the league.

Who is Moe Berg?

Glad you asked. He was a journeyman MLB catcher and atomic spy during WWII.

Moe Berg was one of the most interesting men to ever play major league baseball, and he's the subject of one of my all-time favorite baseball quotes: "He could speak a dozen languages, but couldn't hit in any of them."

did he belong to the same spy agency as Bob Crane?

I'll bet that he didn't drum as well as Bob Crane. (Little-known fact: Bob Crane was a professional jazz drummer before he became first a radio DJ and then a television star; Crane is the guy who played the martial-sounding drums on Jerry Fielding's Hogan's Heroes theme song, and he even played drums on an album of TV theme songs.)

I know Millikin stopped mattering long ago, and, at best, would've been minimally competitive in 08-09, but, after finally getting a look at the roster, what the heck happened?  i see where Darrell Adams, who showed some promise, followed the asst. coach out west, and McClellan moved to MacMurray, but where's Rexroade, Ott, Givens, and Harmsen?  Out of 200 minutes/game, they lost about 120, and only about 12 of that was a senior... There's also little encouragement in the recruits, especially with Elmhurst getting Boyd and the big kid from Arthur right out of MU's back yard...*sigh*  Well, they say Obama likes basketball-perhaps he can "re-distribute the wealth" in the CCIW  :(

Welcome to the board all blues.  That was one of the better debuts on this board in a while.  Disappointing news of out Decatur, but here's your first positive karma point for the Obama line at the end.  Keep posting.  We can use the Millikin representation here.

Wow.  Who's the hater who nailed both our Millikin rookie poster and me with negative karma for enjoying the Obama line? Somebody having a bad day out there?

Wasn't me...I thought it was pretty funny.

If Sen. Obama is concerning himself with redistribution of basketball wealth, my guess is he'll start with Oregon State (0-18 in the Pac 10 last year) where his brother-in-law is the new head coach.

The NAIA D1 and D2 preseason polls were released this week...

IWU plays at Olivet Nazarene Dec. 2, faces St. Xavier on a neutral floor in West Palm Beach, FL Dec. 29, and could face NAIA D2 #4 Northwood - coached by Rollie Massimino - the following day (IWU, SXU, and Missouri Baptist are in the Northwood Christmas Tournament).

Watch out for the Trolls of Trinity Christian (others receiving votes in the D2 poll) this season - they're getting better.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Monmouth hasn't posted an online roster yet, but I've heard that that's where Zach Ott ended up. Dunno what happened to the other three.

In the case of 6-9 Darrell Adams, "out west" is Northern New Mexico College, a first-year program which will compete in the USCAA.  Enzley Mitchell, who was Millikin's top assistant last year, is now the A.D. and head basketball coach there...

That NNMC roster includes a second Millikin transfer - 6-4/215 sophomore David Franklin.  And there are several with Illinois ties - 3 players from Crete-Monee H.S., 1 from Decatur Christian, and 1 from Danville CC.

On Millikin's 2008-09 CoSIDA Information Sheet, they only list one player as an "impact newcomer" - junior guard Corey Mitchell.  Mitchell is a transfer from Milwaukee Area Technical College.

It seems like Millikin is in position to have to build from scratch after losing most of that quality young talent left by Tim Littrell.  That is just a very, very difficult thing to do in a conference with 4 teams in the preseason Top 25, another with one of the best young players in the country (Carthage), a North Central team that returns most of its players from a squad that swept #3 Wheaton last year, and a North Park team that we all agree has the best junior class in the CCIW and has a bunch of young talent.

tjcummingsfan

Coaches Poll is up with Wheaton at the top.  Surprising?

(I was really hoping to come see all kinds of great discussion about this already, but it looks like I'm breaking the story!)
