The sad thing about that is the team from 2 years ago for RMC is 2x better than the one this year.

While Andy Wiele doesn't pass the All-American "eye test" for me, the bottom line is he had a great junior year - 15.2 ppg, 10.5 rpg, .571 FG.  If you analyze the returning Division III centers, I think you'll find that Andy Wiele's numbers stack up very well.

I think Brett Wessels does a heck of a lot more well than shoot free throws.  He may not produce gaudy numbers, but he is a gamer who plays very well when it's on the line.  I have no problem with him showing up on this team...although I'd probably pick Ryan Burks over him.

The impressive thing is that in addition to these 5 CCIW preseason All-Americans, the league also returns 8 other all-conference players...

2nd Team
Ryan Burks, Elmhurst
Nick Williams, North Park
Chris Drennan, North Central

3rd Team
Matt Pelton, Augustana
Ben Panner, Wheaton
Tunde Ogunleye, Millikin
Sean Johnson, Illinois Wesleyan

And Jordan Delp, and 2nd teamer in 2006-07 who missed the entire conference season last year with injury.

So 13 all-conference players in total return to the league this year.  And when you consider some of the really good young talent out there, like on IWU's roster for example, you realize just how loaded the CCIW is this season.

During the off-season OCU was planning on adding Ramar Smith from Tennessee, Derek Caracter from Louisville, and Drew Washington from Louisiana Tech, so they could have been even more loaded.

I believe that team had some eligibility issues.

Vikes scrimmage seventh-ranked UW-Platteville tonight. Should be a great test. Platteville has great size, including first team pre-season AA Jeff Skemp (6-10, 265), and a bunch of great shooters.

Wow. This should be a great contest even if it is only a scrimmage. It will be very interesting to see how Augie's bigs fare against Skemp.

With regard to my above post concerning Augie's Bret Wessels---I don't mean to say he isn't a very good player but, I'm sorry I just don't see where someone who shoots 37 percent from the field and commits 85 turnovers (28 more TOs than assists) merits AA designation. I realize Augie supporters will likely have a different opinion, but honestly, are these stats that you would expect an AA to have? And yes, if a player on the team I root for had these stats and was designated an AA, I would be happy, but very surprised.

Yeah they did. We got to chalk up a 92-52 defeat as a W after all of those issues were resolved after the season.

I will be interested to see which centers emerge as the season gets played out this year. There were two proven commodities, so to speak, which were our first- and second-team selections.

UW-Platteville wins both varsity halves tonight, 41-37 and 36-32. Augie wins JV 12 minute period. I think it was 19-15.

Both teams shot extremely well in the first half (.615 for both) and cooled off considerably in the second half. Curt Hanson (17) and Jeff Skemp (19) led UWP with Hanson doing almost all of his damage in the first half (4 3's) and Skemp picking it up in the second.

Augie had four in double figures with Justin Bertrand leading the way with 17 (8-8 from the field). Alex Washington had 11 and Matt Pelton and Jordan Delp had 10 each. Bryant Voiles had 9 and Chandlor Collins 8. Brett Wessels and Jeff Becker didn't play.

A good test for both teams and Skemp gave Augie a comparable matchup to what they'll see from Ruch and Wiele in CCIW play.
