Ah, yes - I'll add this to my memoir: "1001 Reasons I Am (far) From Peoria". :D

"This Platteville team is pretty good, and combine their very good 3-point shooting with the confusion on defense caused by way too many substitutions and players getting lost on defense, and this is the result. This UWP team would finish ahead of half of the teams in the MVC this year. " - More good reading from the Bradley thread - from its moderator.  Good job UWPlatteville!

The Peoria Journal Star message board contains nothing but contempt for UW-Platteville's effort and everyone just making excuses for Bradley. Some people I just dont understand...

After having a couple of days to think back and reflect on the Carthage/NIU game here are some of my thoughts:

Steve Ideran starts at the 3 because he can play defense.  Offensively he doesnt turn the ball over and can make the occasional basket here or there.  The other option at the 3 seems like Shemerdiak and he was terrible defensively as Anderson scored anytime he wanted to on Shemerdiak.

Tolo has free reign to shoot.  Ive heard from a number of people that he can shoot it pretty well, but from what I saw I believe he took either 0 or 1 of his shots inside of 15 ft.  That could become a problem as the season progresses, being that when he is shooting the Red Men have no one to rebound.

Steve D is an excellent ball handler and did all he could to keep Carthage in the game.  The way to beat Carthage is to take a charge or two on his drives to the lane, get him in foul trouble, and you should win the game.  Carthage struggles mightily when he is not on the floor.

A couple of surprise performances that I know will not go unnoticed by the Carthage staff:  Cody Hilton will see/should see lots of playing time this year.  The elevation and strength he has on his jumpshot gives him the ability to shoot with a hand in his face.  To me he might not be as good of a shooter as Sean Fendley but he can get his shot easier and has to see some PT this year.  Richard Williams is the other player that I was impressed with.  Talent wise he is lacking, but he hustles and hustles to no end.  He probably weighs in a 190-200 and 6'5"-6'6" but he outworked the much taller and larger big men from NIU.

All in all, I think it was a good showing by the Red Men.  They didnt shoot particularly well but were in the game until the final 4 minutes when Anderson took over and was too much for the Red Men.

Looking forward to the real season getting under way...

The Augie scrimmage must have really toughened up Platteville for their meeting with Bradley.:)        Glad to hear Augie was competitive against the Pioneers in the scrimmage. Obviously, Platteville, Wheaton(with Kent Rasymond) and Wash U (victor over DII Missouri (St.L) look to be the class of DIII going into the new season, but Augie and several other CCIW and WIAC teams are right in the mix. What a great advertisement for DIII basketball these wins over and competitive losses to DI and DII teams are..

I would say that the Randolph Macon victory over George Mason deserves credit to put in the category as a team to watch in DIII.  That was as impressive as any victory of a recent DIII team.

IWU scrimmaged MacMurray this evening in Jacksonville.  The Titans won the two varsity periods by a combined score of 92-74.  Starters were:

G Travis Rosenkranz, 6-0/175 (So)
G Sean Johnson, 6/1/185 (So)
F Matt Schick, 6-4/200 (So)
F Duncan Lawson, 6-7/230 (So)
C Doug Sexauer, 6-7/225 (So)

The Titans won the JV period 35-22.  Starters were:

G Eliud Gonzalez, 5-9/159 (Fr)
G Steve Rudnicki, 6-3/160 (Fr)
F Josh Sutton, 6-5/215 (So)
F Dexter Walker, 6-5/220 (Fr)
C Eric McCullough, 6-9/205 (Fr)

Returning starting center Brett Chamernik is still sidelined (stress fracture in foot).  I sense that the Titans have three starting spots that are secure (Rosenkranz, Johnson, Sexauer).  It sounds like Lawson has emerged as the favorite to start in the post until Chamernik is back.  It sounds like that third perimeter spot is still very much up in the air (Schick got the nod tonight).

From what I gather, things are coming together for the Titans, but still a long way to go in becoming a CCIW contender-type team.  This will most likely be a team that is a lot better in January than it is in November.  IWU is loaded with young talent...just a matter of putting it all together.

There are times that folks think an average coach is just a myth, as opposed to fact. One idea that some always think of as a myth is to coaches that try to coach and at the same time try to get it right which is just an average statement.
This labels the coach as a 'coach that can't win the big games'. The comment is meant to imply the coach chokes in the big games which comes down to not knowing how to coach but attempts to coach which is a true fact, not myth....That line up will never WIN the BIG games he says    :o

Same poster?

Admittedly, different writing styles. No ee cummings-style no-caps, no-punctuation in the last post, but the train of thought is similar.

Buck Burnette, a center for the Texas Longhorns, posted a comment on Election Night and was released from the team on November 5. Mr. Burnette said the comment was sent to him from a friend via text message and that he made a poor decision in posting the remark to his Web page.  It appeared under the "update status" on his Facebook page and read, "All the hunters gather up, we have a [racial slur] in the White House," referring to Mr. Obama, the nation's first black president.

One of the comments on the webpage from which I pulled the previous paragraph pertained to free speech and message boards.  It reads, "Just mentioning the idea of 'free speech' and Facebook in the same conversation makes me cringe. You have to realize, there's no such thing as free speech on Facebook. You agree to the company's terms of service and conduct when you register for an account. Facebook is a corporately owned message board, not a public square."

Is our beloved D3hoops more like Facebook or a public square.  I suspect the former.

Multiple readings? I could barely get through it once, let alone go back and try to figure it out.
