Mr. Ypsi

Yeah, that term has always bugged me.  I figure the Mid-America Conference IS approximately mid-major, but ...

I never participated in that grade inflation, but, yeah, I've got some opinions (but Pat would bleep them ;D).

Nice article about Jordan Delp on the "Around the Nation" page.

Dennis - Speaking about the Karma points. From someone who's total was as volatile as the stock market last year, don't sweat it. It's just a number. The more you worry and holler the lower it goes. It is in know way, in most cases, personnal.

Why not just go with a policy of appeasement?  Just give him a + Karma a day  until he's up to 0...

For the same reason we can't just give $25B to the auto industry without more information on future strategy...we have to make sure past problems are corrected before a bailout.

Perhaps we should monitor Dennis for his emission standards. ;)

Classic.

Seems like much ado about nothing if u ask me
funny how this conversation takes a life of its own - someone complained about their karma going down and I explained the reason - now I'm seen as the one complaining - i don't think so - but you guys do what you like - as long as i have breath and am free to speak i'll give my reasoning when someone asks a question - that person accepted my explanation - what's your problem?

But doesnt that just say that you actually care about his Karma level??  For someone who doesn't care about giving or taking Karma it shouldnt matter if his is at -38 or 0 or +38.

On the flip side I think it would certainly matter to all of us if the auto industry was -25B or 0 or +25B right?

awfully short-sighted of anyone who thinks we ought to let the American auto industry just go down the tubes - there are hundreds of thousand ancilliary jobs that are involved as well.  I hope your's isn't one of them.

Tell me why Mark Scherer cannnot win a conference championship or go farther in a playoff, if he gets there? I think his team is fairly stacked, no less than Wheaton, although they do not have the stud.
Is it that Mark can't coach? What is it mr. expert?

If you look at the number of players on all CCIW teams over the past 10 years, I can understand how one could think that Coach Scherer has underachieved (EC has had a stud for the better part of the last decade with three of the best CCIW players in the last 10 years in Ruch (2x 1st team), Martin (3x first team, 1x 2nd) and Knuppel (2001 MOP, 2x 2nd team), but he has finished in the top 4, 6 of the last 8 seasons.   In fact, Coach Scherer has finished in the top 4 during his tenure at EC as  many times as they had the prior 40+ years.
EC has advanced to the conference tournament the past three seasons and has been a perennial bubble team for the last four years, and as 2001 shows us, he can win a CCIW title and advance in the NCAA tournament.  If you are to ask any EC follower, Coach Scherer is the most successful coach in the schools history, by far.  Sure Trost and Whitesell may have had a higher ceiling, but Scherer put the BlueJays on the map and is the reason why EC basketball is discussed year in and year out.
When I was in school 00-04, virtually no one even on campus talked hoops, students didn't care and I'd seen the same alums/community supporters since I started going to games in the late 80's.  That has changed a ton in the past few years, what is that they say, "if you keep winning they will come".
I would venture to say that the vast majority of D3 schools would love a coach with the track record of Coach Scherer, a perennial top 25 team on the cusp of reaching the NCAA tournament.  Also, considering EC's facilities, its a minor miracle that he can get the talent that he can.
EC should stay competitive as long as Scherer or Baines are patrolling the sidelines, the school has the ability to keep the Chicago kids and Scherer and Baines have the connections to keep reeling in those downstate Class A studs.

Early season observations, comments and questions;  Augustana will struggle with an inside game all year if the Chicago game was a valid test.  Chicago will struggle all year with a backcourt that can't handle the ball against full court pressure. Neither team will win their respective conference.  Elmhurst's defense is suspect but their player talent is deeper overall.  Aurora played a complete game without completing four passes in one possession or execute one offensive set.  Can tournament schedules like IWU's and Wheaton's actually hurt your tournament resume with the selection committee?  Both tournaments mock the strength of schedule clause.  Buena Vista will win the Iowa Conference and advance far in the Dance next March.  Ron Rose and Bill Harris will determine who wins the CCIW.  I'm glad the season is here!

It's interesting to see Augie is playing for 3rd place in the CCIW this year. I guess the same goes for IWU and Carthage. Maybe we should wait until Wessels returns to write off Augie. I certainly respect Wheaton and Elmhurst, but this conference is up for grabs right now. Too many talented teams to single out any team as the prohibitive favorite quite yet.

You're welcome and you are not the only one who was startled by the rare Tuesday night game.  Yes, most of the games can be heard on the WRSE website http://www.wrse.com   I'm sure you know that the Jays have a few long distance travel games which may/may not get aired (don't know for sure yet) but all the local/CCIW road trips and reg. season games will be aired.  Hope you can tune in.  I heard that we installed some more ammo from our tower during the second to last football game, so I think people will be able to get better reception now and over a greater area.

Funny post Our House +K for you.

Mark Scherer is a great CCIW coach, unfortunately Augie's been a little better than Elmhurst.  I'd take him at North Park in a heart beat.

This league has been full of outstanding coaches over the years that just rang the bell one or two times.

Night in and night out Scherer gets the Jays ready to play and be competitive in almost every CCIW game they play - there's no better yardstick of a coach.

But I did enjoy your humor - keep it up - a +K a day from me and soon you'll be back to zero.

IWU/Taylor-Fort Wayne box...

Ryan Connolly's stats are actually those of Ed O'Callaghan.

Mr. Ypsi

Q,

As bad as Taylor-Fort Wayne is, should we be at all concerned about the defense that allowed them 70 points?  Or just comfort ourselves that it was their seventh game, our first, yet we still won by 20?

April

The guy back at the studio on WETN just called the game a "preseason" game. Haha...

Whee! Welcome back everyone and good luck to the Thunder tomorrow against some real competition. :D

April..I noticed that too as I was driving home from the game.  Maybe he thinks only CCIW games are regular season.
