With the way the Titans have been playing this year, though, a team would have to catch them on an extremely off night.

I guess it's just impossible to outplay the titans this year?  Let's just cancel the game and give IWU the win for crying out loud!!!  Devildog, even the 96' Bulls lost at home a few times!  It's possible!!

Oh, by the way, for anyone who cares.  The NCC rolls over judson 107 to 46!  This game was literally over before it started!  Because of the score, I'll spare you the details.  :D :D  If you want to know anything about the judson game just let me know...

It seems Augie usually has to drop  one tough pre-season game, and I guess Stout was it. I hope they use the loss to motivate them to play even harder after the first of the year. Time for conference to start. I'm glad. We'll see if the Titans can run the table, or if Augie has what it takes to protect their gym.

Well, I think at least 13 posters in the CCIW Pick'em would care since all picked NCC to win over powerhouse -- Judson College 6 - 5 ; (2 - 4 Away) with a 11/29 (75 - 76)  loss to 2 - 9 North Park

And likely NCC will get some more votes (Poll  Through games of Dec. 18, 2005 - Others receiving votes:  North Central 1  ::)) in the upcoming D3Hoops Poll

Then why did they play it?

Sounds like that should've been done last night to the Judson/North Central game. :)

The IWU/Westmont boxscore...

http://www.iwu.edu/~iwunews/sports/mbb2006/miwu10.htm

* Keelan Amelianovich: 25 pts (5-6 3-pt)
* Adam Dauksas: 14 pts (4-6 3-pt....1 assist/5 T.O?)
* Chris Jones: 14 pts, 9 reb
* Jason Fisher: 8 pts, 5 reb

* Santiago Aguirre: 18 pts, 7 reb

FG: IWU 57% Westmont 36%
Rebounds: IWU 39 Westmont 30

IWU was just too big, too strong, and too athletic for the host Warriors.  It was a physical mismatch at almost every spot on the floor...and Westmont is a pretty big team.  The Titans controlled the whole way, leading 43-30 at halftime and maintaining a double-digit lead throughout alsmost the entire 2nd half.

We had a chance to interview Westmont coach John Moore before and after the game.  He told us that he felt like IWU would win the Golden State Athletic Conference, with is quite a statement considering that the GSAC is either the best or second best NAIA D1 league.  Azusa Pacific is ranked in the top 5 this year after losing in the national title game last season.

Overall, what IWU did out here in Santa Barbara was impressive.  To beat teams like Puget Sound and Westmont by 17 and 16 is pretty impressive.  Scott Trost has put his squad through a very tough non-conference slate and I think they're very ready for a special CCIW run.

Puget Sound defeated Berry 117-108 in the consolation game, setting a new record for points scored in a Tom Bryon Classic game.  Watching the Loggers dominate Berry - a very solid basketball team - made me appreciate what IWU did to Puget Sound even more.  Berry turned it over 30 times and just had all kinds of trouble vs the Puget Sound pressure.

I still have a hard time evaluating Puget Sound vs other national powers simply because their system is so unique, but I will leave here thinking they're a lot better team than I thought during the 1st half vs IWU.  Their full court pressure is nasty and it really wears teams out.  It is so much different than Grinnell's defense because UPS has very good athletes on the floor running that system.  Bottom line, a great team like UW-Stevens Point last year or IWU this year is going to beat Puget Sound because they simply gamble too much and allow way too many easy baskets.  But Puget Sound can give even a good team - like Berry last night or D1 UC-Riverside - a ton of problems.

Following up on Puget Sound -  "Puget Sound 117, Berry 108 -- Berry shot 63.8 percent from the field and scored 62 second-half points while dropping to 7-6. Webb and Lee Burrell scored 22 points each for the Vikings, who committed 30 turnovers. - The Pantagraph"

A tough loss for Berry but just further illustrates how tough Puget Sound can be on defense.

I guess, I should have asked if you have been to a game this year.  It's not fair to ask an opinion of THIS YEARS TEAM IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS YEAR'S TEAM PLAY.  Right?

i dont know if i agree with that statement. 2 reasons: 1 - i have seen the key players play every year since they came into school......heck i've played WITH those same players (except the freshman, drennan).....so i figure i have as good an idea as anyone about what they are capable of. 2 - what if i would have been to a game or 2, would that qualify me to be an expert on North Central? i dont think so....i dont think i'd be any more knowledgeable about them based off of a couple games. i would have told you last year after seeing all of their home games and started 10-1 that they were going to finish in the top half of the conference (i was one of the cardinal fans on this board that said they'd finish in the top of the conference and suprise a lot of people....i think i even mentioned conference championship after they started the conference by beating augie, carthage AND wheaton.....woops). all i'm trying to say is that i'm trying to be logical and think rationally. it doesnt really matter if North Central does take that step (which i hope they do) i'm going to support them anyway. i'm just not going to get ahead of myself like i did last year until they take that step.

Happy New Year everyone!!

This week every CCIW team starts out on a level playing field 0 - 0 in conference play.  Yet, this week may be a defining week for the conference:

Jan 4 - NCC @ IWU - both unbeaten in non-conference play to date go head to head at the Shirk where IWU is (138-12 Overall Record, 70-7 in CCIW, 11+ Seasons).

Will North Central duplicate Hanover and become the second team with two wins in Shirk Center?  Will someone on repeat North Central's Mike Wilson 2/24/04 31 point performance? And, for the IWU CCIW Home Opener -- How big will the line of "Korey's Kids" be this year when the Titans are introduced?

Jan 7 - Elmhurst @ Augustana - with 3 & 1 losses respectively in non-conference play to date, this should be a good CCIW battle

We will find out what teams non-conference schedule got them ready for the CCIW?  And, 1 - 4 spots in the conference may start to shape up early this year.

TitanQ has the CCIW Pick'em for the week posted.  Conference wins count two point; and, remember A DUNK ONLY COUNTS TWO POINTS

A good opportunity with the right picks to gain a little ground in the Pick'em standings.  So join the fun and cast your ballots before Wheaton TipsOff Tuesday at the University of Redlands.

Augustana and Wheaton have two wins at the Shirk Center.

cardinalpride, I think you should read my whole post and not take one selective line out of what I said.  I said it is highly unlikely that IWU would go through the CCIW season undefeated.  I said the league is too tough to make it through the whole season undefeated.  Granted, I did say the Titans have the talent to do it, and to beat them, you are going to have to catch all of their stars on an off night (most likely on the road where they don't get the Shirk bounces).  However, nowhere did I say it is impossible to outplay the Titans this year.  Yes, I watched the '96 Bulls play and yes I know they lost some games, even at home.  Which is why I pointed out last years U of I team that they did not make it through the entire year undefeated.  Cardinal, I'm happy your team went undefeated in the non-conf. season.  It says a lot about our conference and I know Coach Raridon is as good as any out their.  However, before you go making these wild accusations, I suggest you actually read all of what people post, not just selective lines.  You claim that you 'speak your opinion and the truth.'  Hate to break it to you, but your opinion, my opinion, Q's opinion, Dennis's opinion, anyone's opinion on here does not qualify as the truth, that's why it's called an opinion.  If your opinion is indeed the correct one, we will all find out on Wednesday when the Cards visit the Shirk.  Good luck, you guys will need it.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!
