Just heard from Brett Marhanka that Wheaton/Augie is still on.  I guess Augie is determined to make it through any weather in the hopes of getting the game in pre-Wiele.

No word from either school on NPU @ Elmhurst being changed, so my guess is that tonight's game is still on. Since NPU and Elmhurst are the only two Chicagoland opponents who are scheduled to play each other in the CCIW tonight, I'd be surprised if that game was postponed.

many years ago (BD was still North Park's coach) I drove down to Elmhurst from my Mount Prospect home right off Busse.  I could usually make the trip in 20 minutes, but this night it took over an hour and the temperature was way below zero.  But GS is probably right - unless there's a sudden blizzard or a severe drop in temp this one should probably go on.

Coaches - on a whole - do not like to reschedule games: 1- they have their team psychologically ready and keyed to play; and 2- they know who they're going to get officiating the games (substitutes refs can sometimes be worse than the real ones - if that's possible).

I don't like the way that sounds at all. As much as I obviously would prefer for this game to be postponed, I don't like the image of a program risking the safety of their players over a better shot at winning a basketball game. I know you're not speaking for the program Pete, but with every single other game cancelled, it has a weird feeling to it. Either way, I'll be praying for the kids safety. And I mean that in the most serious way possible.

How about you guys all move your schools to SoCal? It's been mid to high 70s and sunny all week...

Well, April, the sun is shining here in Wheaton as well.  So what if the high tomorrow isn't going to go above zero?

Once it gets below zero, does it really matter anymore?  :D

??? Only two of the four CCIW games (Millikin @ NCC and IWU @ Carthage) have been postponed until tomorrow. The other two (NPU @ Elmhurst and Augustana @ Wheaton) are still scheduled to be played tonight.

April, maybe I needed a smiley face or something at the end of my post.  I was kidding.  The Wheaton/Augie game is not the only one happening.  NPU and Elmhurst are playing, and looking out my office window at this point the sun is quite visible and the roads are fine.  It's cold and getting colder.  That's all.  I was not suggesting that Augie would put their entire program at risk to squeeze a game in before the anticipated return of Wiele.

one of the considerations for this is the condition of the roads - Augie can come east on the east-west tollroad almost right to the Wheaton campus (just about two hours).  Both Millikin and IWU (a little louder) have to traverse I55, a notorius winter interstate - further IWU would have to traverse the entire CHicago area to get to Kenosha - (which begs the obvious questions of why downstate schools are scheduled to play mid-week in Kenosha anyway).

Thank you! I thought maybe i was the only one that felt this way.  I try to get out and see Millikin about once a season, usually at NCC, and a couple years ago i walked out at halftime-guys were getting the ball in isolated one-on-one situations and not demonstrating having a clue as to how to break their defender down and put the ball in the hole.  They'd either turn the ball over, get their shot blocked, or miss wildly.  Rarely (hardly ever) were they able to get a clean shot off or draw a foul...it was like their imaginations had been surgically removed...

How many teams really have anybody that can "create their own shot". There are probably a bunch of top teams that have 1 guy and the best teams may have 2 but, really, how many teams have that go to guy that can creat a shot? Stevie D and Raymond. Does Augie? Delp is probably the closest thing or maybe collins/bertrand inside. IWU has Chamerink and Sexauer who can create in the post and their guards can penetrate to force double teams and easy passes. NCC: maybe Rogers and Barringer? Elmhurst has Ruch and Burks. NPU has Nick Williams?

It seems to me offenses in D3 center around trying to break down the integrity of the defense to create open looks rather than clear it out and let a guy create off pick and roll etc. Others may know better than me on this.

For those of you following at home, Andy Wiele was dressed and warming up tonight against Augustana. How much playing time (if any) he will see is still a question mark, but it's good to see him out there on the court.

Here's to a clean, well-played, injury free game tonight between two excellent teams!
