This led to one humorous, but near disastrous, incident near the end of the game at the end of the Elmhurst bench.

Reserve center Hintzche had just had a rebound stolen out of his hands for a layup and a foul, and he was taken out of the game.  At the water cooler Jay coach Mark Scherer was demonstrating to Hintzche how to get his elbows out when he got a rebound.

"Now you can't swing your elbows like this," said Scherer, and as he demonstrated the move his left elbow missed connecting with Ryan Burks nose by no more than an inch, as the Jay senior guard was reaching for a cup of water.  Burks ducked his head just in time to miss his coach's elbow and then whistled in relief.

Haha.  My friend laughed out loud during this exchange, but I was looking in the other direction and completely missed it.  Thats pretty funny.

Which streak will end on Wednesday at R.A. Faganal hall?  The Bluejays have won 6 straight CCIW games for the first time since their 2001 title season.  Augustana has beaten Elmhurst 5 straight times.

Giovanine is not going to allow the Vikings to lose 2 more in a row. He is the X factor.

Whoever wins the Augie/Elmhurst game will do so because of how they play the game and not due to any current streak that either school may be riding.

Augie surely does not want to lose two more in a row, but they may put all they have into winning this game and it still may not be enough, because Elmhurst can be that good.  Conversely, Elmhurst obviously wants to win its 7th CCIW game in a row and avenge their early season late second half disaster in Rock Island, but that does not guarantee a win for the Bluejays either.

Elmhurst should have won the first meeting between these two teams, but didn't because Augie forced a load of turnovers down the stretch and shut Elmhurst down for the final three minutes of the game.  They also kept Elmhurst, a good free throw shooting team, off the foul line.  I think both teams would say that game wasn't a good indicator of what they can do, and it wouldn't surprise me if Wednesday's game is completely different.

It should be a great game.

Hopefully Brertrand will be healthy Wednesday night, which will give Augie a shot. If Bertrand does not play or plays hurt, Elmhurst will win its 7th in a row. Saturday's tough loss at home really put Augie behind the 8 ball with only one home game remaining. As things now stand the winner of the second Elmhurst-Wheaton game will almost certainly be the regular season CCIW champion.

Carthage and North Central might as well not play the final 6 conference games since they have no chance!  ::)

I don't think it is any coincidence that the 7th and 8th place teams in opponents points per game are IWU and North Park (81.9 ppg).

Please. IWU and NP spend no time TEACHING or RECRUITING defensive minded players, never have.
Neither school has ever had the reputation of playing defense. Bridges, Trost, Rose. Name a player who was a lock down defender. Bigs, Smalls, Frosh, Senior; they have never played good individual or team defense consistantly.
They are what they are. And they have won alot of games when they shoot straight.

+k and good point.  Seems like just yesterday we were talking about what a great conference and what a great wide open race, doesn't it?  Did I miss some games between Sunday morning and today?

Men -- tomorrow; women -- not until the 11th.
