Skemp is a very good post player. He knows how to use his size to create easy baskets. those "layups" were in large part due to UWP rotating the ball to the weakside after Hope fronted him and him sealing the defender for easy layups. When he did get the ball in the post he had nice footwork to create space and position for easy shots. He also was very good at passing the ball out of double teams to open shooters or cutters. I do think Wiele is more athletic but make no mistake, Skemp is as good a big man as Wheaton will have played this year in my opinion.

I agree with your analysis of Skemp.  His only weakness may be he is a little slower than Wiele and may tire out faster.  I wonder if Wheaton will try to run him up and down the court.  Wiele is in very good shape and plays better the more active he is.  He may also be able to get quick baskets if he can beat skemp down the court.

Skemp uses his size to back his guy down towards the basket clearing the way for a guard charging to the basket for a layup.  Watching my tape of the game he takes three huge steps backwards ala Shack.  Although Wiele is a bit bigger than the Hope Center.

That's good stuff.

There are a couple of benefits for Wheaton in this "bracket of death", namely: 1-The top teams in the bracket will beat each other so they don't have to face more than 3 of them; 2-They have to play the toughest teams eventually so why not play them at home!.

While facing a Platteville, WashU, UWW or St Thomas/UWSP would never be easy, I would think Wheaton would rather play any of these teams on their own floor than in a neutral/opposing gym.

We Augie fans do not have a dog in the hunt anymore, but the seedings for the NCAA tourney really make me angry. I know little about Whitworth or Puget Sound, but I do know that all of the other 6 teams remaining in Wheaton's pod are potential NCAA champs. Only one of them will get to the FF, and if they are not to beat up from their tough earlier games the team that survives should be the NCAA champ. This process is really unfair and needs to be changed. You look at the pods in the east and half of those teams would not even make the top four in the WIAC or CCIW. Lawrence and Elmhurst also got hosed with FF caliber first round opponents. Both deserved a better chance to get at least to round 2 and would have in any other pod.

If Wheaton gets to the FF asnd wins it all, it will be a heckuva an accomplishment, and they should be recognized as one of vthe best DIII teams in recent memory.

OK, it's set, I'm headed to Wheaton for tonight's game... I'll be the only guy in the gym with a purple Stevens Point shirt on but I'll give a nod to the participants and at least wear an orange and blue Bear's hat...!

Where's the best place to park at Wheaton?  It's been probably 15 years since I went to a game (in Centennial gym, no less), and I wasn't driving then...

Depending on how early you arrive chances are you will have to park in the lot behind Edman Chapel, which is west of the SRC.

funny, I guess if thats what you want to call it.  :D ;)

I wish I was there because the first time it happens Raymond will be in the officials ear about the moving screen.

There is no doubt he was a major motion picture moving screen on a few possessions last night vs Hope.  :-\

Towards the end it was kind of comical, but as long the refs are letting the big guy do that, there's little you can do defensively.

IWU women over W-Eau Claire, 80-63.  Sweet sweet sweet 16.  Great run, 29-0.

Wheaton and Platteville heading to OT.

Wheaton has made so many big mistakes in the final 2:00 or so, it is hard to believe.  UW-P with a very impressive comeback.

Feels like a national championship-caliber game.
