Overboard!!!!

We're way pass overboard. It amazes me that this much effort has been spent on splitting hairs. Like if you post maybe 25 more times, Pat is going to say "Ok your right, sorry Jimmy."

It's an award with 0 economic value. Now, if the award carried a $100,000 check with it things might be different.

Or, you could of spent all this time writing a letter campaign asking Bartolotta to pull his name from consideration.

I for one have found some of the posts to be entertaining, informational and amuzing. But, even cats only have nine lives. This horse just can't stay buried.

I have turned to the CCIW page, in the past, because it is the closet to our conference and has by far some of the most knowledegable posters. Subject matters are great and it's the best place for regional DIII news.

Could we please get back to basketball. I'm interested in who the SLIAC rep will be facing in next years NCAA Tourney first rd. game.

This will drop my Karma about 20 points.

fcnews,

This is the CCIW board. If you don't like it, don't read it. This is not a regurgitation of past arguments. Most of what has been addressed here is new yet related. This is entirely appropriate in my opinion.

There is nothing like a good Sager dissertation to brighten up an early offseason board! The Joey Buttafucco reference had even me ROTFL.

I agree almost 100% with Greg's comments (or should I say I have 100% confidence in his comments?  8) )

I have seen nothing on here that I consider a defamation of Raymond's character.

I also think it's inappropriate to make accusations of anyone without specific proof. If you want to post that stuff bring the names and incidents to back it up and be prepared to be challenged.

If athletic prowess were a requirement to judge talent there would be a lot of NFL and NBA scouts out of work.

Not only is it NOT viable to have players vote, I don't think you could even do it appropriately with coaches. D1 can do it because the media coverage allows for greater coverage but we aren't there yet w D3. That said, I don't know the process D3.com goes through for the AA picks (I have looked--I know the All Region is nominated and voted on by SID's and D3.com staff pick AA's from that?) but I would love to see a broader panel vote on the AA's similar to the D3 Top 25 poll. No matter how much tape Pat has seen or how many games he has been to it's tough for 1, 2 or 3 people to eliminate all possible biases and make an objective decision. A broader base of voters allows for a more accurate assessment. I think that's true for the D3.com Top 25 (I think the posters poll validated much of the work of the D3.com Top 25 selections) and it would be true for the AA picks.

Even still the process we have now is far better than what existed previously. Can it be improved? It has been and it can be, but I don't think its too bad now. Pat and his team have done a nice job evolving the coverage, the picks, the polls, etc. No reason to think that won't continue.

Lastly, I also thought the last shot of Raymond's career was rushed. It didn't appear he realized how much time he actually had left. That's a tough spot to be in but I am sure he has replayed that one over many times over the last couple weeks.

I'll bet all the corn in Manito ........

I've heard this expression from you at least a couple times..........is there really that much corn in Manito?

Oh yes and be carefull, the deadhorse from the CCIW is gaining on the outside on the Triple Crown winning MIAA deadhorse.

We should ban whips.

Secretariat is dead - long live the memory of the greatest horse of all time.

23 lengths at the Belmont Stakes !

We can't forget Phar Lap....the horse that never lost in 1920's until it was handicaped with a leaded saddle and still won...but died later!  Great video about Phar Lap from Australia!

Kent Raymond could star as "Phar Lap"....he never lost IMHO!  Time just ran out.

CCIWchamps

Wow.  What did I miss?  Apparently the horse wasn't dead, it was just sleeping.

I can say that there is a quantitative difference between the quality of play in regions. There are really good players in other regions, but I'm not sure one can make a better case for himself as POY than to score 24 + points a game on a team that goes 26 and 4 (he only played in two of the losses) while playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation.

At the end of the day, KR has plenty of accolades and will succeed in life without the D3hoops POY award.

This succinct post is what I would've hoped to have typed, as it summarizes my feelings exactly.

As for CCIW, all I can say is I feel your pain, and that with reflection over time, you too win learn to live with disappointment.  As mentioned, Raymond's last shot of his career was an airball, and if a player of his quality can miss that badly on an important shot, then certainly a sports editor can airball a decision every once in a while too.

(Maybe play a weaker schedule and put up an extra block and steal a game. ---What... too soon?  Greg said I could!   :D)

Thanks, USee. I'm just glad that someone remembers who Joey Buttafuoco is. ;)

To be honest, I don't really know. I've never been to Manito, which is a small farming community in central Illinois, and it's certainly far enough off the beaten path so that I don't expect to visit it anytime in the near future. I do know that much of Illinois is a seemingly endless sea of cornfields, and from what I know of Manito it's pretty typical in that regard. But when Ryan Knuppel was the star at Elmhurst early in this decade and his dad and younger brother were regular CCIW Chat posters, "all the corn in Manito" became the preferred hyperbolic trope (and running joke) of CCIW Chat.

I've always been disappointed that Knuppel's successor as the resident Bluejays star from Manito, Ryan Burks, didn't bring family and friends with him onto CCIW Chat who would've encouraged a revival of the "all the corn in Manito" expression.

The Bartolottas have a great family of restaurants in Milwaukee and Las Vegas.  You don't think they got to Pat with free food, do you?   ::)

Thanks, Gregory. Yeah. If that ball hit the out of bounds line at 1.2 then it was certainly not chucked up with 4 seconds left. That was a bad decision for a Player Of The Year candidate to go out on. Plenty of time to get off a real shot. That's why I'm not arguing the call. I expected better.

Wait, are you saying there was MORE time than 4 seconds based on the 1.2?

jl65

Oh definitely yes. I remember 6-point-something, like I said before.

CCIWchamps

Just got this off another board:

"From reading this http://mitathletics.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/032409aaa.html apparently we can see Jimmy Bartolotta playing with D1 All Stars at the Final 4 in Detroit (if you have access to the CBS College Sports Network).

"Bartolotta has also been selected to play in the Hershey's College All-Star Game on Friday, April 3, at Ford Field in Detroit. The All-Star Game, which is presented by the NABC, is free to the public and will be televised live on CBS College Sports Network at 4:35 p.m. Bartolotta and Division II National Player of the Year Josh Bostic of Findlay are the only two non-Division I players competing in the game."'

Looks like a perfect opportunity to see Bartolotta in action.  (and against CCIW caliber competition!  ;) ::) :-*)

Well, check the WETN tape (if you happen to live in the WETN ch 72 range and TiVo'd it) and you'll see 4 seconds.  I promise.

By the way, I really enjoyed this territorial smackdown.

Scrub, I assume by this you don't mean Raymond is selfish, do you?  I wouldn't say that, he's a great player.   I am sure the CCIW folks here think Bartolotta is, just because.

A little late, but I meant to say that Kroeger is an extremely unselfish player, more so than others. After the games, I have heard people compliment how well he passes the ball, even in those closing minutes of a game that is already won, he wont take an open shot, just because he understands that its not needed and would rather see his fellow teammates and friends score a point or two. I am not saying that KR is selfish.
