Here's a post for Armywife. Hopefully she still reads the board. Nephew Shaun Clements taking on Shawn Kemp, Ron Harper and Robert Horry on Pros vs. Joes.

I figured it wasn't going to be pretty when the title of the episode was "The Shutout" (although it wasn't a shutout). His teammates were brutal. He'd have been better off taking Carstens and Thomas to play with.

Shaun also takes some crap about his gray hair...and Jay Glazer calls him "Richard Gere"...funny stuff.

Seems just a trifle unfair that they chose Pros who were consistently 6" taller than the Joes! :P

I thought 6'4" Shaun did as well as could be expected against 6'10" Shawn! ;)

They should've formed a team consisting of lawyers who've filed child-support injunctions on behalf of Kemp's various and sundry babymamas. Bet they would've done a great job of containing Kemp.

I'd like to see a report covering the different children sired by Kemp and Pippen et al.  As they get older I imagine at least 1 or 2 out of each bunch has to have SOME basketball ability, and it seems like they'd be getting recruited by schools at some point.  I bet Kemp could put together 5 draft picks out of his litter.

I think you're right. However, when I look at Kemp I don't see the basketball equivalent of a stud breeding future D1 All-Americans and NBA All-Stars. I see a selfish and self-absorbed "player" (in both senses of the word) who has left behind a lot of kids who are growing up without a father in their life.

Kemp was a physical speciman as a basketball player.  Kemps issues with alcohol (at least) kept him from being a better NBA player than he was.

Son #1 will play for Alabama next season.......

His oldest son, Shawn Kemp Jr., committed to play basketball for the University of Alabama for the 2009 season[10]. Shawn Jr, a graduate of Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia is a 6'9" 220 pound Center. He was named as an alternate in the 2009 McDonald's High School All-American Classic. Shawn Jr was heavily recruited by University of Kentucky, University of Florida, Alabama, and Indiana.

He appeared on the 2009 season premiere of Pros vs. Joes.

SI has an article about him.

Ralph Sampson III just completed his freshman campaign at the University of Minnesota.  He's approx 6'11" - not as tall as dad.  RS3 is rather stiff around the paint, but hopefully time with Tubby will improve scoring skills.  RS3 is an excellent free throw shooter.  He has one of the highest arcs I've ever seen.

Augie has released its schedule for the 2009-10 season...Competition takes a considerable step up after the first five games (note the December 9th game--not an exhibition)...Pretty ambitious, especially considering the Vikes will be the second most inexperienced team in the CCIW next year...Should be great preparation for the conference portion of the schedule.

that's a back-breaking schedule - wow!

i don't think there's any way the CCIW surpasses its non-conference record of last year, when one of its stellar programs has such a tough non-league slate.  Simply amazing.

What a schedule!  A nice experience for the team to play in Spokane.

The best thing about Spokane is that Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is just 20 miles away.

One would have thought Coach G. would have selected a more experienced Augie squad for the Gonzaga game, but it should be a great experience for the Augie players in a great major college atmosphere.
