Here are the freshmen who have scored 10.0 ppg + in CCIW games this decade (2000 through 2009):

1. Steve Djurickovic, CC (2008), 23.4 ppg
2. Drew Gensler*, MU (2006), 19.2 ppg
3. Luke Kasten, IWU (2000), 18.6 ppg
4. Kent Raymond, WC (2005), 18.2 ppg
5. Brandon Smith*, NCC (2007), 16.0 ppg
6. Rob Garnes, CC (2000), 15.2 ppg
7. Roshawn Russell, NPU (2009), 14.9 ppg
8. Drew Carstens, AC (2001), 14.8 ppg
9. Reuben Slock, EC (2000), 13.0 ppg
10. Sean Johnson, IWU (2008), 12.9 ppg
11. Chris Martin, EC (2002), 12.6 ppg
12. Zach Freeman, IWU (2004), 11.6 ppg
13. Nick Williams, NPU (2007), 11.5 ppg
14. Kevin Blomstrom*, WC (2001), 11.4 ppg
15. Tim McCrary, WC (2009), 10.1 ppg

* did not stay all 4 years

Let me know if I've missed anyone or have someone listed as a freshman who wasn't that season.

*Brandon Smith--16 ppg as a freshman in 06-07. Thought he was too good for DIII, and transferred to DII Missouri Southern where he played a whopping 38 minutes all year and scored 15 points in 07-08. Rumored to be going to DI Western Illinois last year, but never showed up or appeared on their roster, and hasn't been heard from since.   :(   :(   :(

On that freshmen list I posted above, it's interesting to note that all of the players who ended up staying for 4 years ended up being 1st Team All-CCIW players (Kasten, Raymond, Garnes, Carstens, Martin, Freeman)...and all but Garnes went on to be named to the D3hoops.com All-American team.  (And Garnes probably deserved to be...was just overshadowed by Wiertel and McDaniel.)

It certainly looks like scoring 10.0 ppg + in CCIW play as a freshman is an indicator of future success.

I think chances that Rosenkranz won't be starting are slim and none. Hence the same chances are applicable with regard to the likelihood that Dwyer will be a starter. If Dwyer couldn't beat out Rosenkranz the last 2 years, whats happened since last season to suggest this is more than a remote possibility?

I would think a much greater possibility exists that Zimmer will start at the 2G spot over Johnson. He shoots a higher percentage both overall and from beyond the arc, and with a 4 inch height advantage over Johnson presents the opposition with match up problems from both an offensive and defensive perspective.

I'm not too familiar with Koschnitzky's game, but from what I have observed, he is a very active player who possesses the ability to be an effective offensive weapon from both in close, and mid range, while also being capable of doing a nice job on the boards.

With regard to Doug Sexauer, I'll just say I expect him to be a likely 1st team all conference selection, and 2nd team at the minimum. If not, the single, simple reason (baring injury) will be a failure to work hard.

As I'm not a big fan of O'Callaghan, and as there are really no battle tested players available at the center position, why not start The Student Body and see what he can do?

Heard some very interesting news coming out of Wheaton this morning. Reports are that 2 players are not playing this season. One player was a very big part of last season's team and their success. While I am almost 100% sure of the 2 names I will wait until their roster is up before it is confirmed.

Interviews to fill the vacant top assistant job at North Central have been concluded, with the 3 finalists being interviewed last week.

An offer made late yesterday has been accepted by the gentleman who will succeed Chad Murray who left in late August to assume the head position at Cornell, IA College.

While I do know the identity of the person chosen for the job, I need to wait until the official confirming release is posted by the proper authority at NCC.

if one of them is Kent Raymond - it's not a scoop.  ;D
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Congrats to Todd Kelly who has been named the new top assistant basketball coach for the North Central Cardinals. In addition to his regular practice and game duties, Kelly, a former CCIW player at Millikin, will oversee the Cards recruiting program.
The North Central release can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
