Augie loses to Buena Vista 76-66. The brutal nonconference season draws to a close with a really uninspiring effort by the CCIW in general. It has been a long time since the CCIW has not been a factor on the National scene in DIII, but this looks like one of those down years. IWU looks like our best hope for post season success, but a hard CCIW conference season could toughen up some of our other teams.

Augie's loss to BV basically knocks them out of Pool C contention (assuming a CCIW Pool C contender is going to be 10-4 or 9-5).  The Vikings will need to win the league to get in this year.

Three CC forwards -- Raul Guzman, Adam Tolo, and Tyler Pierce -- fouled out in this game. I'll bet that Bosko is not a fan of northeastern Pennsylvania refereeing.

Or, not a fan of his forwards fouling so much.

Hey Q, Sager, et al--

How about a CCIW all decade team for basketball? There has to be some tough choices if you were only going to pick a starting 5 and a 6th man (non starter).

Using the d3hoops.com All-American method:

First Team
G Antoine McDaniel, Carthage '03
G Kent Raymond, Wheaton '09
F Chris Martin, Elmhurst '06
F Jason Wiertel, Carthage '02
C Joel Kolmodin, Wheaton '05

Second Team
G Adam Dauksas, Illinois Wesleyan '06
G Drew Carstens, Augustana '04
F Keelan Amelianovich, Illinois Wesleyan '06
F Rob Garnes, Carthage '03
C Brent Ruch, Elmhurst '09

Third Team
G Ryan Knuppel, Elmhurst '01
G Steve Djurickovic, Carthage '11
F Anthony Simmons, North Central '07
F Luke Kasten, Illinois Wesleyan '03
C Zach Freeman, Illinois Wesleyan '07

Fourth Team
G Drew Wessels, Augustana '07
G Rick Harrigan, Augustana '06
F Dan Walton, North Central '07
F Chris Drennan, North Central '09
C Lukas Moo, Wheaton '01

Fifth Team
G Jon Nielson, Wheaton '05
G Ryan Burks, Elmhurst '09
F Jay McAdams-Thornton, Augustana '06
F Shaun Clements, Augustana '04
C Theo Powell, Carthage '04

Player of the Decade: Kent Raymond, Wheaton '09
Coach of the Decade: Grey Giovanine, Augustana

5 teams? C'mon Greg. you have 1 coach, 1 POD and 5 teams? you have lost serious credibility with that. I thought 3 teams by Q was too deep. I am disappointed in you.

Shackleford hits a 3 with 45 seconds left to tie. Pomona working the clock for the last shot to win......airball and we go to OT

Well ... that, too. But coaches are a conspiratorial lot, and when you're in alien territory and you lose three of your starters to fouls while the other coach doesn't lose any, you're bound to do some behind-the-scenes griping about the stripes.

I thought about throwing in a Defensive Player of the Decade and a Most Improved Player of the Decade as well, and it's a good thing I didn't. I'd probably get shunned if I did. ;) :D

Wheaton goes to quadruple overtime but finally gets the victory over Pomona-Pitzer 102-100.
This was just an amazing game with unbelievable comebacks by the Thunder on numerous occassions. Congratulations to the Thunder.

Greg--how about a mascot of the decade? and an assistant coach, trainer, and radio guy?

I would hope that the Wheaton-Pomona-Pitzer game would merit a front page write up on D3hoops.

That's easy. Mark "79Jaybird" Roberts, of course.

and an assistant coach

Antoine McDaniel of Carthage, because no coach in the league has better fashion sense than Twan.

trainer

I'm giving it to my boy Justin Sjovall of NPU, because: a) he'll even mop up the blood on the crackerbox floor if you ask him to; and b) the Park's gotta have somebody on the team.

and radio guy?

Art Kimball, with honorable mentions for Johnny "Bud" Weiser and Bob Quillman and a special Student Broadcaster of the Decade plaque for Paul Carr.

It's a little late for a write up, but what if I bump it to the top story? :)

Now, don't leave us hanging!  I'd assume that MIPD would have to be Keelan Amelianovich (going from JV to CCIW MOP in a single year), but who is your DPD? ;D

And if you are truly going with the full decade, no room for Korey Coon? :o
