The Kyle Julius Chapter in a nutshell:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB5-yJM3vJc

Given the checkered collegiate career of Kyle Julius to date, I'm not terribly surprised by this. A little saddened, but not surprised. You only get one chance in your life to be a college basketball player (no matter how many colleges you attend while doing it) and his chance is now over -- unless some school was to take him on for a single semester's worth of games, and it's hard to imagine that happening.

Coaches are often wary of taking on a senior transfer, and Julius is a classic reason why that's the case. It's unfair to stereotype them, of course -- starting with NPU's Anthony Lenoir and working backwards, I can think of a number of senior transfers who were real assets to their teams on and off the court -- but it's true that some of them can be disruptive, me-first types who are uncoachable chemistry risks.

"but it's true that some of them can be disruptive, me-first types who are uncoachable chemistry risks."

BINGO!

*I want to make it perfectly clear that I am not speaking for the North Central coaching staff---who I'm sure would have no comment on the subject.

For anyone interested, here is my take on the subject from someone who is pretty close to the program, but not an official staff member---

You can bet the North Central staff had a pretty good idea of what they might be in for based on Mr. Julius' previous numerous stops along the basketball trail. In the hope that he had matured and become more "coachable" over the course of his journey, they decided to extend a helping hand to Kyle, and to welcome him aboard as a student-athlete. Some skeptics would argue he was accepted into the program just because of his basketball prowess and potential. However, I would argue strongly that this was not the case.
Despite not really being in basketball shape, he was able to occasionally display flashes of extraordinary talent during the season's first 9 games, one of which he missed due to illness. However, ignoring the team concept, as reflected in the above quote, he voiced the opinion he should be starting. The coaching staff felt he was most valuable to the team in coming off the bench. As it was evident the staff's position was not going to change, Kyle just cleared out his locker following the Benedictine game. He never even said a word to the coaches. The only communication on his part was that on his way out the door that evening he told a teammate "good luck the rest of the way."
Those that predicted in October when practice started, that he would be gone by Christmas, proved clairvoyant indeed.

Maybe Carthage and NCC can work out a deal:  Fendley for Julius and the rights to Monty's unused eligibility.

I've been planning to respond to the CCIW football All-Decade team, but haven't had a free moment to repond intelligently.

You would never leave yourself open with such an obvious straight line if Cardinal Alum ever checked the basketball room. ;)

Re-enforces "how busy" I am when I fail to check if a post "tee's it up" for Cardinal Alum.   :P

HAHAHA I never check the basketball board, but had a bit of spare time and decided to wander over.  This exchange made my very glad I did!  K+

The Kenosha News gave Titan Q and me  a shout-out.

"Except for maybe a handful of savants who make frequent visits to the league's message board at D3hoops.com, no one knows the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin better than Bosko Djurickovic."

Bosko also said this about Wheaton's early loss to Hope:

"They just didn't have a good game," Djurickovic said about Wheaton's 25-point loss to the Flying Dutchmen. "Hope shot the lights out. If they played Hope 20 times, that score could never be replicated. You can't put any stock in that."

I think Wheaton has a good chance for a victory tonight. I think their top guys know the CCIW and the level of intensity required to go into someone else's gym in league play and win. I would expect them to do all they can to minimze Steve D's affect on the outcome and make one of the younger guys beat them. I think it will be a close game.

With tipoff a little more than four hours away, it's likely that Grey Giovanine and his staff won't be able to use this information -- not that my withholding it over the past week was probably going to matter either way, anyway -- but I have bad news to report from the North Park front:

Phil Schniedermeier tore his ACL while rehabbing his injured calf. He's done for the season.

Kendall Greer, whose foot problem was (I had heard) plantar fascitis and whose return date has been anticipated and then pushed back several times already, had his foot re-checked. He has a small fracture in one of the bones in his foot; unfortunately, it's the same bone in the same foot that he broke last year. His season's over, too, although unlike Schniedermeier his season never even got started.

Schniedermeier is definitely applying for a medical redshirt. I haven't heard the same about Greer, but I would imagine it's likely that he would apply for one, too.

That's two of last year's starters, both of whom were going to be among the team's mainstays this season, that've been scratched from the NPU roster. Of course, the Vikings have had to learn how to play without Greer since the season started -- and Issa Avery has responded well in that role thus far -- but losing Schniedermeier was an unexpected blow that the Vikings are still trying to sort out. His loss is compounded by the fact that Christian Alsing, who had been playing as the new backup center behind Emmanuel Crosby, suffered a sprained ankle and did not suit up against UW-Superior. I am unsure as to whether or not either Alsing or Davone Robinson, the other Vikings regular who recently sprained his ankle, will suit up for tonight's game against Augustana.

With under an hour before tipoff up in kenosha I feel safe in revealing some bad news about this years thunder: Kent Raymond will not be playing this year so Stevie D will finally get to be the man.  :)

In honor of the opening night, all CCIW fans not at games, please play at 7:25pm:

NPC-Alum

for the dealy, but I don't get around to responding here very often.

I said "definitely" for me, in choosing McDaniel over Dauksis as the PG of the decade.  I would never dispute the fact that the stats are very similar for the two players.  Dauksis was undoubtedly a great CCIW PG in the decade.

I think (not to in any way drag him in here) that KMark's comment pretty well sums up my thoughts on the matter - if the game was on the line, I would have preferred the ball in McDaniel's hands.

Good news for NPU: Davone Robinson is in the starting lineup tonight.

Anyone have NCC's David Twyman in the First Points In CCIW Play pool?
