I have a feeling that North Park wanted IWU to whup Wheaton Wednesday night.

If I knew the Wheaton fight song, I would've even sung it on the broadcast during the waning seconds of that IWU @ WC game.

We have a fight song?

Rob and I could've made one up. ;)

obnoxious - but true - and it used to be played ad nauseum at every wheaton home game
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

We have a fight song?

If you come down to the football field after any Wheaton victory you can hear the whole team sing the fight song.

Lemme guess, does the fight song go anything like this?  (sung to the tune of "How Great Thou Art")

How great we are...
How great we are...

Am I close?

I'm not sure.  I'll have to watch that clip from the game on Wednesday again to see what the students were singing as they stormed the court.

If Wheaton would like to adapt for its own use what was originally a hymn composed by a Swedish Pietist lay preacher (Carl Boberg) set to a fine old Swedish folk tune, O STORE GUD -- in other words, a hymn straight from North Park's religious and cultural heritage -- it's more than welcome to do so. And NPU supporters would thereupon relish pointing it out from that point forward. ;) :D

Final from the Toolshed:

Carthage 68
Millikin 55

The visitors looked like they might pull off a surprise today, slowing down the game considerably in the first half and heading into the locker room leading the Red Men, 27-23. But whatever Bosko said at halftime worked, because the Red Men came out and scored the first seven points of the half, and then a few minutes later went on a 9-0 run to open up a secure lead that never fell lower than seven for the rest of the game. Steve Djurickovic led the way for Carthage with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Malcom Kelly contributed 14 points, Mitch Thompson added 12 and 5, and Tyler Pierce had 8 and 6. Millikin was led by Joscar Demby's 11 points, while brother Devin had a 10 and 8 game.

You can actually hear the start of the Wheaton fight song at the end of the youtube clip of the last 10 seconds at the end of the IWU/Wheaton game.  Not sure if they still call it a fight song... we did when I was there, but we were required to be in ROTC for two years!

Up until about 20 years ago.  Not anymore even though some us still have our little shoulder metals with the Crusader on it... oops, the Crusader is gone too!

Final from King Arena:

Wheaton 70
Elmhurst 43

It wasn't as close as it sounds. The Bluejays were eviscerated in this one.

Final from the airplane hangar:

Augustana 81
North Central 71

This one was close most of the way, but Augie maintained a slight lead throughout the final ten minutes, expanding it to the 8-10-point range in crunch time.

All three of today's games went according to form: The contenders won, the bottom three lost.

2 of which I knew during my years at Wheaton.  They made personal sacrifices and put themselves in harms way to defend our country and what it stands for in the first Iraq war.  I have the utmost respect for those men.

Wheaton outshot Elmhurst from the field, but actually not by that much: 44% to 41%. The difference is that Wheaton got off 55 shots to Elmhurst's 39. That's because Wheaton almost doubled the Bluejays off the glass, 45-21. Elmhurst also turned the ball over four more times than did Wheaton.

Tim McCrary had 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists for Wheaton. He was joined in double figures by Andrew Jahns and John Shackelford, who had 15 points apiece. EC was led by Zach Boyd, the only double-figure scorer with 12. He, Dustin Bainter, and James Robertson led the Bluejays with three boards apiece.
