4. Raridon and Schauer have both done fine jobs in light of their available personnel. However, as Wheaton was picked to finish 1st, and will fall short of that, I think it can be reasonably argued that Raridon has done an even better job, given he has neither any height nor and bulk inside. Despite this, NCC's only "bad" loss was to Carthage by 14. And, they did split the season series with the team picked to finish 1st in the conference.  ;)

... and with that I will step aside and let you and the orange-flavored contingent pick up your cudgels and have at it once again. ;)

;) indeed.
It wouldn't be the first overlooking of events that has happened in a post in the last few days.  But correct me if I'm wrong, but Wheaton was picked to win before they lost several thought-to-be-returning players?  I thought that was the case.  It's not the worst insult either way.  I think I talked about having to change my name as early as the end of last season.

Good post on the minutes though.  It's funny how the end of the season sneaks up you and it's amazing to think that the guys who pulled minutes early in the season for Wheaton have continued apace through today.  Like Schauer said, they've got to get the game ugly by clamping down on D and making it a fight.  Partially out of necessity which dictates their strength.  I think he's done well and look forward to next year when he gets some recruits in.

Carthage likely hosts 1st round;

Barring a loss in tournament, I think Wash U the likely Sectional Site;

You've gotta look at who they might match up against...  Stevens Point and Whitewater will both likely make the tournament, and if Point would win the conference tournament without a loss, they've got a ton of regional wins (right now they're 19-3), including wins over Whitworth and St. Thomas... If they win out (and Carthage wins out), Point will have 5 more regional wins.

It depends how the teams are distributed too.

I have to give credit where credit is due...

I haven't been up to Carthage since my sister graduated from there in '03 (broke my heart).  Tarble arena looks as good on TV as any college arena in the area.

And by the way, I know this is old news, but how cool is it to be able to WATCH CCIW games on your computer?!

carthagealum

Watching CCIW games on the computer is cool. Too bad I can never watch the Carthage home games. The stream always always always disconnects. Lucky if it will work more than two minutes straight.

I've been back to Carthage to catch some games in person in Tarble Arena. Definitely a wow.

For all the money spent, they should have spent more on broadcasting the games online to us alums that can't make the trek back to campus very often. :(

I get excited when they play other teams that have online video. I can see the Redmen players, but not on our own court.

Currently listening to the AUDIO of the Carthage game. At least that is working tonight, doesn't work all nights.

*Rant Finished*

Go Redmen!

Viking Blue

Looks like the Vikings are going to come up just a bit short again tonight.  But North Park fans have reason for optimism.  After a big hiccup for a week and a half where it looked like they might fold up the tent, the Vikes showed a lot of fight, especially tonight.

As Sager has said previously, for a team with as many issues as it has had this year, North Park has finally brought some respect back to Foster and Kedzie.  I hope this core sticks around...should be a good year next year.

Douglas Sexauer may have played his way down to 'bubble-territory' tonight for first-team all-conference: in 32 minutes, 7 points, zero assists, zero rebounds. :o

The gaurds saved the Titans tonight - Rosenkranz led the team in points and assists; Johnson tied O'Callaghan in rebounds.

IWU 62
Augustana 59

* Travis Rosenkranz: 17 pts, 5 assists
* Jordan Zimmer: 10 pts, 3 reb
* Sean Johnson: 9 points, 6 reb
* Duncan Lawson: 9 pts

After the big loss at home to Wheaton, I am very proud of Ron Rose and his team for picking themselves up and grinding out a win at a very tough place.  A very significant win in the race as it makes Augie the probable #4 seed and IWU the 2 or 3.  Looks like IWU will get a 3rd shot at Wheaton in Kenosha.

I was able to listen to the WJBC broadcast tonight from my hotel room in Tulsa, OK.  It sounded like an incredibly physical game...which is certainly no surprise when these two teams meet.  The Titans had a nice balanced attack, with significant contributions from just about everyone who played.

Great win, Titans.

Mike Schauer on the postgame said "the game against elmhurst is a playoff game for us. We are very much alive for an at large bid to the tournament. We are more in it than people think"

After leading by 13 Wheaton hangs on to win by 4. Sloppy play down the stretch and great Millkin defense. McCrary 1 assist from a triple double 11, 10, and 9.

#22301
Carthage 61, NPU 55

* Emanuel Crosby: 16 pts
* Jorge Gonzalez: 14 pts, 12 rebs
* Shaun Collins: 12 pts
* Nick Williams: 9 pts, 7 rebs

* Steve Djurickovic: 26 pts
* Tyler Pierce: 10 pts
* Mitch Thompson: 8 rebs

North Park played well in spurts tonight, but didn't do a good enough job of slowing down Steve D. or of getting any production of out its guards (Russell and Robinson combined for only four points) to pull off the upset. The Vikings did come fairly close at the end, but Jorge Gonzalez failed to convert a layup that would've cut the lead to three in the last minute, and Carthage made enough FTs to keep the lead at two possessions thereafter.

NPU actually started off the game by racking up an eight-point lead over the first seven minutes of the ballgame, but then squandered it over the next three and a half minutes, as CC tied it up. The Red Men slowly pulled away at that point, building up a 35-23 halftime lead.

Carthage led throughout the second half, but NPU never let the hosts pull away. After the Red Men built the lead to fifteen in the first minute of the second stanza, NPU went on a 9-0 run, and the lead hovered between eight and eleven for most of the rest of the half. The Vikes got as close as five at 1:19 and :34, but never got over the hump.

The Red Men outshot NPU, 44% to 37%, and had a decisive edge in terms of taking care of the ball; NPU coughed it up 13 times, CC only six. Rebounds were about even. NPU really shined in the trey department (5-11, including Collins's 4-6) to Carthage's 5-21, and at the FT line (16-20 for 80% to Carthage's 8-16 for 50%, although Gonzalez missed some big FTs in crunch time). Looks like Bosko's boys mostly won this one by playing good defense on Russell and Robinson and by limiting Crosby's touches as much as possible (both Guzman and Pierce fouled out guarding the big Vikings sophomore) ... and, of course, by having Steve D. do his thing at the offensive end of the floor.

Congratulations to Carthage, which has clinched at least a share of the 2010 CCIW title. And kudos to Bob, who predicted a Carthage title back in November.

Huge win for IWU in a must game. I listened to some of the Augie bcast and it sounded like they were committed to taking Sexauer away defensively and making rosenkrantz score which he did.

iwu70

Key win for the Titans tonight.  Congrats to Ron Rose and the team.  A rare win for IWU when scoring in the 60s.   Keep it going.  Pool C looks better now.

Titan Q

Carthage: 11-2 (@ Millikin)
Ill. Wesleyan: 10-3 (@ North Park)
Wheaton: 9-4 (@ Elmhurst)
Augustana: 8-5 (vs North Central)
North Park: 6-7 (vs Ill. Wesleyan)
North Central: 5-8 (@ Augustana)
Millikin: 2-11 (vs Carthage)
Elmhurst: 1-12 (vs Wheaton)

Carthage has clinched the conference tournament hosting rights.  (Even with a loss @ Millikin Saturday and an IWU win @ North Park, the Red Men would own the tie-breaker over IWU.)

Augustana is locked into the #4 seed...the Vikings would lose a 9-5 tie-breaker with Wheaton.

IWU will be the #2 seed with a win @ NPU...Wheaton will be the #2 seed with a win @ Elmhurst and an IWU loss.
