Don't worry, Dennis. He's a mere pretender to your throne, and we all know it.  ;)

Oh, and I hope that Catholic readers won't take offense at my post. None was intended. I was just making a general point about speaking with absolute certitude on God's behalf.

Although I really did mean the part about us Covies not liking the funny hats. Preferring oddly-shaped ecclesiastical headgear is more of a George Costanza thing.  ;D

I am not offended by questioning the concept of infallibility. But where do you get off dissing the robes and funny hats?  :D

Nothing wrong with Robes and funny hats, I used to have a pope hat.  Besides I was in the Navy, want to talk about funny hats.   ;D

Don't worry KD, you will always be the D3 message boars top SOB to me.

Pat, I think that years of jello dishes at church potluck suppers somehow immunizes one to the charms of funny hats in church. At least that's true for the Covies. I can't speak for the Lutherans in that regard.

Unless it's one of those pillbox hats with artificial flowers on it that the little old lady in the pew in front of you sometimes wears. It's impossible not to think of them as funny, regardless of your denomination.

Dennis, I stoutly maintain that the hat preferences of the Carlson Crazies bear no correlation to the Covenant's tolerance for offbeat chapeaux. I'll believe that the Crazies have the pulse of the denomination with regard to fashion the first time that I see someone wearing nothing but a Speedo and rollerskates in church. Or a Tigger costume. Or a gingham pinafore (on a male). Or a kilt and Doc Martens worn by a bare-chested male who has covered up his nipples with duct tape. Or a giant frog outfit.

I would like to throw out a question for rhetorical discussion, so before all you sensitive types go off on me, it's not necessarily my belief one way or another, I'm just inquisitive, except when it comes to questioning the infallibility of my pope, but that's for another day.  Anyways, we so often refer to talents as "God-given talent."  It's quite obvious that Kent Raymond has an extreme amount of basketball talent.  Using these parameters, one could then say that Kent Raymond has a tremendous "God-given talent" for basketball.  Now, if God gave Kent Raymond those talents, couldn't one argue that God would want Kent Raymond to utilize those talents to the best of his ability?.................Discsuss...........

Wow, this makes some of our political conversations look tame. Maybe we can discuss religously abusive and hostile nicknames. Blue Devils? Delta Devils? Blue Demons? Battling Bishops? Demon Deacons?...

As a matter of fact, various groups have attacked team names such as Red Devils and the like--and, those battles raged in Kenosha County, among other places.

One observation on "the call."  Counted among my relatives who are or were clergy are my father-in-law (Lutheran), brother (Lutheran), cousin (Lutheran) two uncles (both Covenant), and others.  I have talked with them about "the call," and each has indicated it is a calling in which they are drawn to the ministry--not a message from God telling them what to do.  One can argue that clergy select a profession as do other persons such as teachers, physicians, social workers, or whatever.  It does not diminish the importance of the service to know that it is performed by freely entering into a specific field of service.

I'll not comment, however, about the students I knew in college who elected to go "pre-theological" to secure a safer status with their local draft boards.  Fear of calling by Selective Service sent many young men into the ministry.

Greg, it was probably more like a guess than a prediction.  My deepest apologies to you for the unbelievable, hurtful, terrible claim of a prediction from the man who never makes predictions, because it's not his style.  I hope someday you can overcome this traumatic event, and find it in your heart to forgive me.  :(

I also hope someday that we can get back to basketball instead of all this fiddle faddle.

Wait a minute, did I miss something.  Since the Cards are currently whuppin' the Cubs 3-0 at Wrigley, I figured it was still baseball season.
