A big congratulations to Coach Bosko and the Carthage Redmen who cemented their CCIW title with a convincing run through the CCIW tournament. They have shown all season they were the best team in the league and it is good to see them playing well going into the tournament. As a witness to what a well coached team with a superstar can do in the tournament I am hopeful Carthage can makes some serious noise in the NCAA tournament. It's been fun to watch the league this year and no matter what happens in the next 24 hours with the selections, our best teams are going forward in the NCAA tourney. It will be fun to see how we match up after all these games and practices. One thing is certain, the CCIW reps are a lot better now than they were in December for having survived this conference schedule.

Looking at the D3hoops.com order of projected Pool C teams, I feel pretty good about my breakdown from last night.  I have a slightly different order, but it seems to shake out the same.

Again, my 3 tiers of Pool C candidates are:

(Teams within tiers are not listed in any order.)

First In
* St. Thomas
* St. John Fisher
* John Carroll
* MIT
* Eastern Mennonite
* Virginia Wesleyan
* Guilford/Randolph-Macon loser (2:30pm)
* UW-Whitewater
* Williams/Middlebury loser (11:00am)

Two teams that could join this list today with losses:

* Franklin & Marshall (hosts Gettysburg, 2:00pm)
* Texas-Dallas (@ Mary Hardin-Baylor, 2:00pm)

Second Tier (safely in)
* Richard Stockton
* Oneonta St
* Illinois Wesleyan
* Lycoming
* Colby
* Brandeis

The Bubble (4 spots available if F&M and Texas-Dallas both win)
* Rutgers-Newark
* Ithaca
* Calvin
* Thomas More
* Messiah
* Wheaton (IL)
* Anderson
* Austin
* UW-La Crosse

that breakdown is pretty much exactly how our selection process played out. The good news for Wheaton is that they would knock out UW-LaX on a head to head comparison since they are both propped up by SOS and some solid wins with Wheaton having the better WP. Ithaca is also in the same boat as those other two.

Thomas More has a weak SOS and should be behind Calvin.

We had Messiah in while d3hoops didn't. We thought their 0.7143 WP and 0.5707 SOS were competitive with the teams on the board. They could be a stumbling block for Wheaton.

Having had a chance to look at the "Bubble" teams (above) in more detail now, I have come full circle on Wheaton's Pool C chances (from where I was late last night).  I honestly think Wheaton needs just 1 of the 2 "bubble burster" games at 2:00pm to go the right way.  In other words, I think Wheaton is definitely in the top 3 of the teams above, all criteria considered.

I also think Anderson has a chance to slide in as #18 or #19, after Wheaton gets placed and they get to the table.  The Midwest could get IWU, Wheaton and Anderson in if Texas-Dallas and F&M win.

Both of today's games appear to have live video:

F&M vs Gettysburg: http://www.b2livetv.com/partner_members.asp?id=15 (looks like there is a fee)

Texas-Dallas @ Mary Hardin-Baylor: http://www.collegetvticket.com/schedule.php (free to watch according to MH-B Web site, but registration required)

F&M up 36-21 at halftime

UMHB leads UT-D 37-25 with 3:05 left in first half

Now 42-30 UMHB at halftime

Franklin & Marshall wins, but Texas-Dallas loses.  So...

I think Wheaton is in as #17 or #18 (of 19).  I think the final spot comes down to Calvin or Anderson...one of those two will be the victim of the Texas-Dallas loss.  My guess is Anderson in, Calvin out.

Just back from a 9-mile run as part of my training for the St. Louis half marathon in early April.  Didn't bring the ipod for once and instead put Division III brackets together in my head.  By mile 7 I had it all figured out...I had Pool A's, B's, and C's...I had pods...I had byes...I had the 500-mile travel rule factored in.

Then got home and saw Texas-Dallas lost and realized it blew up my entire bracket.

Oh well, it kept my mind of the 9 miles.

OurHouse

those two dribble-drive shots he hit were very well defended.  If you are a Titan fan tonight, you're terribly disappointed, but I think you just have to tip your cap to some huge plays by Carthage.

Help side defense would of helped on the dribble-drives - no one showed up - double team on Stevie with weak side help or even a quick match up zone for gods sake - you don't let Stevie isolate that close in a game - it bit the bitch once again

1) So after all this time posting, you seriously still can't figure out the quoting thing, House?

2) Your hard-hitting, after-the-fact analysis sounds great on the chat board.  Unfortunately, every coach in the league has tried something different defensively vs Steve Djurickovic in the final minutes, and I don't think anyone has found a solution.  (See Augustana 24 hours earlier.)

Q - why do u bother?
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

REDMENFAN

Article from todays Kenosha News looking back on the tournament and the chances Carthage has to host this weekend.  I couldn't make Friday's game as I had a HS game to coach, but I am sure glad I got to attend Saturday night.  Best crowd I've seen since I was a sophomore in 2003.  I was surprised at the number of times Carthage turned the ball over as IWU used full court pressure the last 30 minutes of the game, which ultimately brought IWU back in the second half and gave them the four point lead with under 3:00 to go.
