Hey now.  I'm no Boone County native, but Columbia is home now and I can't let this Rock Chalk/anti-Tigers sentiment just go unchecked.  Save this type of smack for Mike & Mike, P Carr!

Your post may force longtime IWU assistant coach David Steinbrueck (Boonville H.S. grad) out of the lurking closet.  If you get hit-and-run in the next couple days by a new poster called "Boondogs", or "Stein99", or "Jack Seven", you'll know you messed with the wrong guy.

Two things I heard today...

1) IWU vs Carthage will tip at 5:30pm Friday.

2) I guess UW-Stevens Point is clearing the gym between games.  That really stinks.  Why would a school with a 2800-seat gym need to clear it?  I understood when Lawrence had to do it in 2006 (with a 1000 seats)...but I don't understand this at all.

The Roop

Between students and season ticket holders Point will sell out their game without any problem. If they didn't clear the gym there wouldn't be any "general admission" seats available.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Correct per the WIAC board...

They don't NEED to clear it. They WANT to clear it. They sell more tickets and make more money when they clear the gym. Plus, it appeals to those fans who only want to attend one game, but not both.  They can by an $6 single game ticket instead of a $10 two-game session.  They did it last weekend and they'll probably do it forever.

Ha.  I forget you lived there now, Q.  My apologies.  I had a couple friends from Boone County, so I have plenty of jokes, but I guess I'd better save those.

I really don't dislike Missouri that much, although I do enjoy poking fun.  Now that I'm out east, I have to stand up for the entire Big 12 against all the crazy East Coast-biased media.

Bosko has a little bit of a lead on his CCIW peers in this category...

Career NCAA Division III Tournament Wins, through 3/6/10 (current CCIW head coaches)
1. Bosko Djurickovic (24 seasons) - 19 wins (14 seasons Carthage, 9 wins...10 seasons NPU, 10 wins)
2. Todd Raridon (21 seasons) - 8 wins (6 seasons NCC, 0 wins...15 seasons NWU, 8 wins)
3. Grey Giovanine (11 seasons) - 3 wins
4. Ron Rose (4 seasons) - 2 wins
5. Mark Scherer (14 seasons) - 1 win
5. Mike Schauer (10 seasons) - 1 win (1 season Wheaton, 1...7 seasons Gordon, 0...2 seasons Eastern, 0)
7. Paul Brenegan (6 seasons) - 0 wins
7. Marc Smith (3 seasons) - 0 wins

Mr. Ypsi

I assume Dennie Bridges holds the all-time CCIW record with 30 wins in 18 seasons (they declared NAIA prior to 1984).

I can't think of anyone who would be ahead of Bosko for 2nd all-time.  Correct?

I believe this is the all-time CCIW top 5 in NCAA Division III tournament wins...

1. Dennie Bridges - 30 wins (18 years)
2. Bosko Djurickovic - 19 wins (24 years)
3. Dan McCarrell - 16 wins (10 years)
4. Jim Borcherding - 15 wins (10 years)
5. Scott Trost - 9 wins (9 years)

Am I missing someone?

I believe they sold about 3300 seats for last Friday's doubleheader.

This was posted on the WIAC board last night.  IWU and Carthage fans who are sure they want to see Game 2 Friday (UW-Stevens Point vs Texas-Dallas, 8:00pm), might want to try to go this route...

Quote from: frodotwo on March 08, 2010, 09:34:08 PM

There were some game 2 tickets available at the door last week, and attendance was only about 2100 so there were plenty left to be sold.

I'd guess that may not be the case for this week, but who knows. The last time the sectional was held here in '07 the tickets returned by the opposing teams sold out in a matter of hours after being returned.

To be safe who ever wants tickets for game 2 should order ahead of time, as I understand it fans of participating teams are entitled to 1/3 of half of the seats available (1400 / 3 = 467).

Tickets sales starts at 8AM - 3/09/10 Have your credit card ready and walk up on game day.

Phone orders:
Local: 715-346-4100
WI Residents: 800-838-3378

Emptying the gym ensures more ticket sales apparently (and income), but I know that most of the fans from Hope didn't stick around, and a lot from St. Norbert left as well.

Game 1 winning fans can purchase their tickets immediately after game 1, everyone else has to wait until after the second games is completed. It was a mad rush last week and I know that some people waited well over an hour standing in line.

The alternative is waiting until after the IWU vs Carthage game (5:30pm tip) and hoping there are tickets left.

In the fall you gotta love Booches for lunch, Shiloh pre-game saturday, Mizzou putting up 40, Harpos post game, a stretch at The Diner to finish it off...head to lake of the ozarks on Sunday to relax to finish off the weekend.

The east coast media bias is crazy.  I lived in Myrtle Beach for a while so I had the East Coast and SEC, I couldnt get away from it!  You wouldnt even know Missouri has sports out there....

I believe Bill Harris had 7 tourney wins in his 17 years.

Regarding scoring records: Evaluating current and former CCIW scoring machines is always a difficult task. Just a few comments.

1) Scott Steagall, who graduated in 1951 from MU, was certainly one of the greatest CCI (that's what the conference was called during his playing years) players of all time. He scored 59 points in a conference game in 1951 (who knows what his total would have been with 3-point shot rules) and was voted the most valuable player in the 1951 NAIA tournament. That's when the NAIA was loaded with talented teams. Jack Horernberger's opinion was that Steagall was the best conference player he ever saw until Jack Sikma arrived during the 1970s.  I never saw him play. He played professional ball but not in the NBA. He was a 6" guard.

2) Many veteran CCIW fans think that for overall talent, inclulding rebounding and defense in addition to scoring, Jesse Price, also a Millikin player, was the best conference player (again I'll add before Sikma arrived for his four year from 1973-1977).
