Just to clear up a little controversy from the second half last night...a quote from the Kenosha News

"After Djurickovic banked in a 3-pointer to cut it to 75-72 with eight seconds left, Johnson sealed the deal with two free throws with seven seconds on the clock."

And because of that banked-in desperation trey with eight seconds left, we can change this list (and Mike Krizman will have to update it on the CCIW website as well):

CCIW Two Thousand Point Club

player  school  final yr    pts
Leon Gobczynski  Millikin  1975  2635
Dave Shaw  Carroll  1977  2563
Mel Peterson  Wheaton  1960  2542
Kent Raymond  Wheaton  2009  2308
Jack Sikma  Illinois Wesleyan  1977  2272
Bill Warden  North Central  1955  2249
Jesse Price  Millikin  1969  2222
Scott Steagall  Millikin  1951  2127
Jason Wiertel  Carthage  2002  2113
Michael Thomas  North Park  1981  2085
Blaise Bugajski  Illinois Wesleyan  1984  2062
Marv Johnson  Wheaton  1951  2044
Justyne Monegain  North Park  1985  2039
John Laing  Augustana  1973  2035
Steve Djurickovic  Carthage  2011  2002

Congrats to Stevie D., although I'm sure that joining this elite club is small consolation for the fact that his team's season is over.

That means he has averaged just over 667 points his first three seasons.  An average (for him!) senior year puts him atop the list. :o

While this will be a noteworthy achievement if he attains it, lets not forget that almost every player on this prestigious list played prior to the 3 point shot being adopted in the college ranks. No doubt several of the top ranking players were successful on more than a few shots beyond the now established arc.

The 3 point shot was first used in a few conferences in 1980, and was made universal throughout the college game in 1986.

This is true, and I was wondering about that myself.  I'm pretty sure the trey would have added very little to the totals of Gobzcynski or Sikma (I have no idea about the style of play for Peterson or Shaw).  But note that even Kent Raymond couldn't crack the top three - it would still be a tremendous achievement.

Anyone know if the trey would have significantly helped anyone on the list (or added others to the list)?  (Even though he was a big, having seen Jesse Price on 5 or 6 occasions I suspect it would have added 50-100 points to his total; maybe more, since he might have stepped back a couple of feet and buried 'em more often!)

Saw Peterson several times and he had a nice touch on his shots.  Probably would have some three's.  On the oth3er hand, he played many playoff games as they won a National championship and I think were in the playoffs other years too.

I wonder if they played freshman in 'varsity' games back then... anyone know?

I believe freshmen were allowed to play on varsity teams in 1973.

A good run for the. CCIW this year.  I would think Carthage & IWU should be top ten preseason next year, with Augustana in the top 20.  When does practice start! :D

Practice for the 09-10 season officially began on 10/16/09.
Don't think the date for 10-11 has been set yet.
Usually its sometime around 10/15.

The Roop

It's not practice unless a coach is there; so essentially it's year round.

As stated on here before, the CCIW will be LOADED next year. IWU graduates Sean Dwyer and returns the rest of their top 8 players? Carthage graduates Cody Hilton and brings back their top 7? Wheaton loses Carwell and Panner but gets Garriot back. NPU loses Nick Williams and returns the rest of their top 7-8 players. Augie loses 1 from their top 10? but they get a couple back from injury. NCC brings back perhapse the leagues next star in Derek Raridon. This league will be brutal next year.

I will call it now: Minimum 6 CCIW teams make the tourney!!   :) :) ;D

My warmest congrats to Coach Rose and all the Titans -- a great season, a great run in the DIII Dance.  Congrats to Wheaton and Carthage as well for the overall CCIW 6-3 record in the tourney this year.  Yes, next year is going to be even better.  Good luck to Sean Dwyer -- in all future endeavors.

Thanks to everyone who helped make possible a good season for IWU basketball -- both men and women!

Mark, both Sean Dwyer and Christina Solari have a medical redshirt year for the asking.  We've gotta convince them to do a 'honeymoon tour' going for double national titles! ;D

Love conquers all.

Ypsi, see you in October at Homecoming -- October 8-10.

Great seasons for our Titans.

No need to discuss, Chuck.  Neither is considering returning to IWU for a 5th year.  Both are graduating and have great opportunities in front of them.

NPU also gets two former starters back from injury, Phil Schniedermeier and Kendall Greer. The Vikings will have nine players on next season's roster who have each started at least seven games in their North Park careers (ten players if Clayton Cahill returns). And that total does not include Jorge Gonzalez, who has never started but who will clearly be a featured player on next season's North Park team; he averaged 13.2 ppg and 8.8 rpg in the last five games of 2009-10 while playing less than 22 mpg in those five games.

The Vikings will be incredibly deep next season.

But lots of questions at the 4 & 5 spots.  Doug Sexauer should be one of the premier big guys in the CCIW (maybe the region), but still lots to sort out regarding the other starting post and the 2 reserves.

Just can't see any 5's in the CCIW being All Region.  The future All Region 5's from the CCIW are current freshmen.  To be All Region you better have more than a drop step with your right foot and jump hook with your left hand.  All Region 5's must be able to use both hands, or be 6'10", strong and athletic.  This year will be more guard dominated in the CCIW.
