Right, NCC is in Illinois and NCU is in Minnesota and NCSU is in Ohio.  But NCSU is a community college, so I rarely confuse them in the conversation.

I can think of lots of schools with 2 schools named the same, but North Central is the only one that I can think of that has three (unless you count the Northwoods, but I think they are all run under the same adminstration...)
have you looked at the Concordias lately - all but one are LCMS - the one in nw minnesota is ELCA.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

bopol

Agreed, lots of Concordias...

Let's fix this.

NCC – vs Carthage (1-1), vs. IWU (0-1), vs. Wheaton (2-0)
IWU – vs. Carthage (1-1), vs. Wheaton (1-1), vs. NCC (1-0)
Wheaton – vs. Carthage (2-0), vs. IWU (1-1), vs. NCC (0-2)
Carthage – vs. NCC (1-1), vs. IWU (1-1), vs. Wheaton (0-2)

Ok, so, if NCC loses to IWU and Augustana, IWU loses to Augustana and everyone else wins out, then they are all 9-5 and among the 4 teams

#2 (tie) NCC is 3-3
#2 (tie) IWU is 3-3
#2 (tie) Wheaton is 3-3
#5 Carthage is 2-4

On the outside.

If NCC loses to IWU and Augie and IWU beats Augie, and everyone else wins out then.

#2 IWU (10-4)
#3 NCC is 3-1 (9-5 in conference)
#4 Wheaton is 2-2 (9-5)
#5 Carthage is 1-3 (9-5)

If IWU beats NCC and loses to Augie and Augie loses to NCC then

#2 NCU (10-4)
#3 Wheaton is 3-1 (9-5)
#4 IWU is 2-2 (9-5)
#5 Carthage is 1-3 (9-5)

So, it looks like Carthage's 9-5 isn't going to be good enough unless there is an upset this week.

Am I doing all this right?

bopol

Oh, Columbia is a big one too.  Columbia University in NY, Columbia College in Chicago and Columbia College of Missouri.

Today's story about IWU from the Pantagraph.  Best news is that Travis Rosenkranz is expected to make a full recovery.

You'll never walk alone.

Thank God Travis is going to fully recover.

I watched Wheaton coach Mike Schauer's comments after the game.

I've never met him, but here is a guy who is a class act.

From CCIW.org

The following are tiebreaker procedures for conference tournament seeding.
Note: "Head to Head should be interpreted as the cumulative record of head to head records between all the tied teams. In the case of a tie involving more than two teams, the tiebreaker criteria should be used to remove one team before going back to the original criteria (at the start) and attempting to break the teams that remain tied.  For example, when separating Teams A, B and C, which finished tied, the cumulative head to head records should be used.  In this case, the tiebreaker criteria may remove one team (Team C for example) from contention.  At that point, the process starts over with the applicable tiebreaker criteria when attempting to break the tie between Teams A and B."

Men's & Women's Basketball
Seeding will be determined by regular season finish. Ties are broken by the following:
1. Head-to-head competition.
2. Record against team(s) above the tie beginning with the highest ranked team.
3. Record vs. team or teams in 3 rd place. If still tied, go to the next place for determination, et cetera.
4. Road record against conference schools.
5. Record in their seven conference games.
6. The point spread of the tied teams' head-to head competition.
7. Coin toss

NCU – vs Carthage (1-1), vs. IWU (1-0), vs. Wheaton (2-0)
IWU – vs. Carthage (1-1), vs. Wheaton (1-1), vs. NCU (0-1)
Wheaton – vs. Carthage (2-0), vs. IWU (1-1), vs. NCU (0-2)
Carthage – vs. NCU (1-1), vs. IWU (1-1), vs. Wheaton (0-2)

If IWU beats NCU this week and then losing to Augustana and NCU loses to both IWU and Augustana (and everyone else wins out otherwise), then there would be a 4-way tie for second and Carthage would be 2-4 and out of the tournament.

If NCU beats IWU and loses to Augustana and IWU beats Augustana (and everyone wins otherwise), then Wheaton and NCU advance and Carthage gets the 4th spot based on the 4th tiebreaker (road record).

In general, Carthage has the worst trek at the moment and then IWU which can't be in a 3-way tie with Carthage, so the NCU/IWU game is huge for IWU.

Not to be a total nitpicker, but it is NCC, not NCU.

Also, IWU beat NCC in the first game they played.
NCC is has come a long way since the Jan 5 loss at Shirk.  IWU does not have exactly stellar historical end results against NCC at the Hangar.

TitansIWU

I think IWU has beaten NCC the last three times they have played in Naperville, I would have to look to be certain.

My previous post was not meant as an indicator of things to come, I posted that because the post I was commenting on had an error in the results of the first match up between NCC and IWU.

No matter what happens, it's going to be a classic game.

GO TITANS!

Greg-  In follow up to your Scherrer comments a few pages back.

I like Mark Scherrer as a person.  However on the court and his coaching style hmm,  sometimes it makes you scratch your head.

Hey, I called the NPU win Saturday didn't I?  I know the Vikes are rising (don't know to what degree of flight)  and the Jays are dwindling and don't think they have hit rock bottom yet.

over the years, I have seen Scherrer do some things that might be considered whining or "crying".  Giovanine and Bosko gave more noticed because it happens more often.

ya and in know.

Hmm,  I think I saw two Utes running by.

You would think your college would have taught you some better grammar.

Hey Jaybird, based on your post above, we must have been at the same college!?

assuming "mike" should be "might" -- Touche!

79jaybird

Thank you Hardwood and revision is noted.  tough to type when you are in the middle of 5 things at work.  :)

Very true. Wheaton was at the crackerbox last year when the annual NPU alumni game was dedicated to, and named after, the late Rick Alspach in a pregame ceremony. Mike asked me to introduce him to Rick's dad, and they spoke for a few minutes. He certainly didn't have to do that, but it speaks volumes about what a tremendous Christian gentleman Mike Schauer is.

I certainly don't hold any warm spots in my heart for Wheaton, but if I had a kid who was a high-school basketball player I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to send him off to play for Mike Schauer for four years.

And is "Giovanine and Bosko gave more noticed because it happens more often" supposed to be "GET more noticed..."  ?

Part of the game is coaching, the other part is execution. The Titans have struggled in both areas tonight.

Two teams are playing tonight, ALOTG. The Cards are playing very hard. But give the Titans credit; they've fought back from five down in OT tonight.
