Great job Titans.  My congrats to Coach Rose and all the Titans on a great win at home to conclude the regular season.  The Shirk faithful are happy.  Who played tough defense tonight? -- wow, look at the stats on Augie's top players.  NCC here we come.

Congrats to NCC and Augie on the regular season championships to this wild topsy turvy regular season race.

Sorry, Stevie D.  We all hate to see you go. . .   :)

Tonight's game key -- only 7 TOs, and good second and third scoring options from Zimmer and Rudnicki.  Great job Titans.  Let's keep it rolling . . . we ain't done yet.

Final from Shirk:

Illinois Wesleyan 70
Augustana 68

Doug Sexauer hit a baseline jumper with one second left to win it.

Next Friday in Naperville:

#2 Augustana (22-3) vs. #3 Wheaton (18-7)
#4 Illinois Wesleyan (18-7) @ #1 North Central (15-10)

CCIW historians... is North Central's 15-10 the "worst" record for a conference champion?

No. The 1959-60 Illinois Wesleyan team that shared the league title with North Central -- both teams finished league play with a 9-3 record (it was the first season after Wheaton had been kicked out of the league) -- wound up with a 9-11 overall record. To put that into perspective, though, NCC only finished 14-10 that year. And the 1963-64 Illinois Wesleyan team that also shared the conference title at 9-3, this time with Carthage, went 12-10 overall.

Titan Q

IWU has suffered a lot of heartbreaking losses this season in the final minutes of games, but the Titans closed out a huge game tonight.  IWU's top performers were...

* Doug Sexauer: 18 pts, 8 reb, 5 assists
* Jordan Zimmer: 17 pts (5-6 3-pt)
* Sean Johnson: 10 pts, 2 reb, 4 assists

IWU got good contributions off the bench from Stephen Rudnicki (9 pts, 4-5 FG) and freshman Andrew Ziemnik (5 pts).

The team stat that jumps off the page for me is IWU's turnover total -- the Titans turned it over just 7 times (to 19 assists).  That is extremely impressive vs Augustana...especially with senior PG Travis Rosenkranz in street clothes.

Big game by Doug Sexauer -- I can't think he's had many bigger overall than this one.

Proud of Ron Rose and the boys.

Basketball Titans, remember the 2010 baseball Titans.  From 18-19 late in the season, they won the conference tourney, won the regional tourney, and won the World Series!

Miracles CAN happen! :o

We shall see whether or not they can happen twice inside of 10 months.

Wow. Three minutes after the final buzzer, Chuck has his first sip of the green kool-ade.

We should've taken a secret pool on this in the event of a Titans win. ;)

Should I change my name to "Mr. Exuberance"?

And, as I celebrate in my way, shall I change your name to "Mr. Killjoy"? :P

So will IWU be taking vans or will they spring for motor coaches for the occasion in Naperville?

Congrats to a lot of happy Titan fans and also to Ol' Faithful, Mark/AndOne.  Looking forward to a great weekend of basketball at the hangar in Naperville!

Sac, you've been on a good roll the last two or three weeks and I owe you at least one +k.  I'll get you another one tomorrow.

"It's a shame Steve Djurickovic is not going to be in the conference tournament.  He is one of the greatest players ever to play in the CCIW, and a class act."

Congratulations to Stevie D on a tremendous career.  He is certainly one of the best CCIW players I've seen in my 21 years around the league.  A great player and seems like an impressive young man off the court too.

Killjoy was here.

Ditto every bit of that except the 21 years part.  I'm a relative newcomer but heartily endorse every bit of that post, Bob.

Yes, congrats to Mark ... but he's only been waiting for seven years. The people I'd really like to congratulate the most are the long-term NCC fans who've been waiting since 1990 for this title.

I would have done that too, but wasn't sure if there were any of them on the board these days.   :-\

Probably not. I'm not sure how far back cardpride goes.
