All-Conference selections announced

Most Outstanding Player: Steve Djurickovic
Coach of the Year: Grey Giovanni

First Team
Steve Djurickovic*
Landon Gamble
Kyle Nelson*
Tim McCrary*
Doug Sexauer

Second Team
Andrew Jahns
Sean Johnson
Malcom Kelly
Bryant Voiles
Derek Raridon

Third Team
Zach Boyd
Emmanuel Crosby
Brian DeSimone
Brian Evans
Jordan Zimmer
Kyle Taylor

* denotes unanimous selection

1. The fact that Landon Gamble wasn't a unanimous selection proves at least one of three things, or more likely, a combination thereof---some coach(es) don't know talent when they see it, there is a bias against North Central, some coach(es) have a bias against placing freshmen on the 1st team.
2. I had Jahns on my 1st team. My thinking was 2 guards and 3 frontline players.
Also, I felt Jahns was the most "complete" guard I saw this season in terms of the combination of offense and defense, and his overall worth to the team. I felt Wheaton would lose more if he wasn't on the floor as compared to what Wesleyan would lose w/o Johnson, Carthage w/o Kelly, Elmhurst w/o Boyd, Augie w/o DeSimone.
3. I have no problem with Sexauer being on the 1st team, especially if the voters are just looking for what they consider the 5 best players regardless of position.
I do think that this season Doug was the 4th best big behind Gamble, McCrary, & Nelson.
4. Either its becoming tradition to have a 6 member 3rd team or its becoming the norm to have a tie vote for the team's 15th spot.

First seed?  I missed that boat completely.

Stewart just played the "Koch" call and I'm giddy that Rumsfeld is about to confirm his status as a war criminal.
Once a metalhead, always a metalhead.  Matthew 5:13.

AndOne- I know you are excited and drinking the red kool-aid to celebrate.

the question I have is traditionally on a stat sheet if both teams have an identical conf. mark,  they list the team with the better overall record first.
I.E.
1) AUGUSTANA 11-3 22-3
1) N. CENTRAL 11-3  22-3

or Alphabetically which would be the same thing as above.

I will say North CEntral has overachieved all year and stunned everybody.

Actually, AndOne copied it right from the CCIW page...

It appears that they listed the teams in order of seeds in terms of the conference tournament (thus Wheaton is above IWU, is above Carthage, as well)

I will concede that I could have used more precise language...NCC is the second seed. In no way do I believe NCC does not deserve to be the second seed.   I never said or implied that.  Readers may have made an incorrect inference.

02-03 with the senior Carthage studs, a strong IWU team, and Augie.  Thanks for the info!  Prior to 02-03, when was the last year the CCIW sent one team to the NCAA tourney?

Actually, NCC is the FIRST seed.

As Point points out, I did copy the standings right from the CCIW page. I did not change anything or attempt in any other way to suggest NCC was anything more than co-champion with Augie. I just wanted to emphasize CO-champ, NOT 2nd place. Thanks Point.

And thank you also, Mr. Ypsi, for pointing out that NCC is the 1st seed in the conference tourney, and again confirming what Mr. Erickson was evidently having difficulty believing, coming from the likes of me.

To put it another way--How could the 2nd place team be the 1st seed in the tournament?  ;)

I assure you that I've been consuming some beverages just a little stronger than Kool-Aid lately when engaging in celebratory behavior over the accomplishments of this year's Cardinals.  ;D   ???   :o

In 2005-06, IWU's Adam Dauksas and Keelan Amelianovich were not unanimous 1st Team selections...

http://www.cciw.org/sports/2010/5/26/MBB_0526103802.aspx?id=205

They were both named D3hoops.com 1st Team All-Americans that year.  (And both had won the M.O.P. award in the past - Amelianovich in 2003-04 and Dauksas in 2004-05.)

Sometimes a coach or two simply has a different opinion on who the best 5 are.  Doesn't mean there is a big conspiracy.

In the last 20 completed seasons, the CCIW has had just one team in the NCAA tournament 50% of the time (10 of the 20 seasons)...

2007 - Augustana
2004 - IWU
2003 - IWU
2002 - Carthage
2000 - Carthage
1998 - IWU
1997 - IWU
1994 - IWU
1993 - Augustana
1991 - IWU

Just a question, who is the most "sideline animated" coach in the CCIW?

After watching the Augustana coaching staff roam and rant with no technical fouls in sight last night, Grey Giovanine gets my vote, although Bosko has to be on the first team somewhere.

Thoughts?

I agree with you; Giovanine was a little animated Tuesday night.  I thought for sure he was going to get T'd up.  At one point, I looked at my daughter and said, "He is about to blow a gasket."  Giavanine was kind of looking like Bobby Knight junior for a minute there

So...is there absolutely no chance/no way/no how a 2nd team gets in if Augie wins the CCIW tourney? Even if IWU beats NCC and every other first place team gets their AQ and doesn't steal any Pool C bids?

You've gotta look at the regional rankings:

Midwest Region
1 Concordia (Wis.) 20-2 22-3
2 Augustana 21-2 22-2
3 Manchester 18-5 19-6
4 Hanover 18-6 18-6
5 Anderson 15-7 17-8
6 Milwaukee Engineering 18-6 19-6
7 Benedictine 17-6 18-7
8 St. Norbert 18-5 18-5

Each of these teams is ahead of every (other) CCIW team.  Now, there's a chance that they may be 9, 10, 11... but for the above teams to be eligible for a Pool C and for any CCIW team to be eligible, it requires a loss, which would seemingly be a push in terms of affecting said CCIW team and the regionally ranked team.

As you look at the rankings above...  Here are the conferences from the teams:

1. NAthCon
2. CCIW
3. HCAC
4. HCAC
5. HCAC
6. NAthCon
7. NAthCon
8. MWC

That's 4 Pool C bids from this region alone before the CCIW even gets on the board... and it is assuming no upsets by lower HCAC/NAthCon/MWC teams (let alone tourney "locks" around the country).

I don't know the history of it... but I'm pretty sure that a team hasn't ever received a Pool C bid that was not on the regional ranked list*.

*Two caveats... 1) we don't see the final regional rankings 2) even though we see 8 teams, there are others that are ranked below the 8 that we don't see... so if the entire regionally ranked board is selected, it doesn't mean that a region is out of teams...  it just means that a team that we don't see is put on the board.

But... like I said, I'm not aware of any teams who have received a Pool C who were not regionally ranked.

It should be pointed out that a few of these years the NCAA tournament was a 48 team field.  Particularly right around the middle of this list.  I forget the exact years now.

At 3:30 they also feature Happiness and Discontent by Aristotle.

I can't wait to see that.
