I just hope that the augie fans will travel to EC like they did to IWU tonight...there was almost as big of an augie student section at the game tonight as there is at a home game.

Thank you for seeing past the ... Reader's Digest version post.

Ya know, I made a rather long (winded) post in the top 25 thread in September that was anything but brief... and GS managed to shorten it down to the Reader's Digest version... I guess I'm good at saying (or explaining) in 200 words what could be said in 20?

...   etc   ... etc   ... I don't seem to have that whole brevity thing down, do I?

PS, brevity is overrated.  ;)

Pat, if my post had been included in one of those Reader's Digest Condensed Novels, it would've read:
"Brief? Eh."

On a basketball note...  looking at the box score (after not seeing any of the game I guess I may be completely off base, but...), it looks like a tale of two halves... IWU shot 55% in the first half to Augie's 33%... Augie heated up to 38% in the second frame to just 24% for the host Titans.  35 combined turnovers, combined with the 37% and 35% shooting performance, along with the final score (game in the 50's) makes me want to believe that this game was played at Augie's speed, rather than IWU's.  Either way, 21 turnovers by the Titans tells me that they weren't really in control, and the game seems to have taken a decided turn at the 14 and a half minute mark... From that point on, IWU only makes two more field goals... a 4 minute draught and a 10 minute draught.  Rick Hannigan scored the next 7 points as Augie outscores the Titans 23-10 for the last 14 minutes.

One last important stat...  IWU missed 9 free throws... that's huge in such a close game.

Titan Q,

I hope they pay you well at State Farm and I hope you like what you do there, because there are a whole bunch of bigtime play by play guys out there on TV and radio that aren't in your league.  You're very, very talented and I really enjoyed the broadcast tonight.  This Augustana fan would like to thank you for your professionalism and balance.

cciwwatcher

I just want to be the one that doesn't kiss up to the almighty titan Q.  Unfortunately I didn't get to listen to your "wonderful" broadcast because I got to watch Augie beat the almighty titans in person but I heard it wasn't as good as stated on this site.  Many of the people that i have talked to told me your were extremely biased.  Last time i checked the IWU didn't broadcast it, therefore you don't need to be using the word US in your broadcasts.  Also I heard you talked about augie holding alot, you need to open your eyes because that is all Fisher did on to Rick all night, so before you whine about that on a national broadcast take a look at the other end of the floor.  I am fed up with the people on this board talking IWU up and NCC up and EC up and then people like Augiefan talking down Augie.  My message to you is if you want to be an Augiefan like you say you are you stop talking so negative about the #1 team in the CCIW.  I am just fed up with the BS on this site with Augie getting no credit, I have to read it because its the only way i can get any info with what is going in DIII basketball but come on people, Augie has proven time and time again that they just win games.  IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW THEY GET IT DONE THEY GET IT DONE.

Stat

I am a bit surprised not to hear comments about the in game coaching at IWU.
With all the talented "All Americans" on that team, would seem to be a topic for conversation.
When I shut the broadcast off, the Greenies had a double digit lead.

Scoring by halves in the last four meetings between Augie and IWU:

First Half                                           Second Half
1) IWU 45, Augie 20                         Augie 53, IWU 39

2) IWU 40, Augie 13                         Augie 39, IWU 27

3) IWU 33, Augie 33                         Augie 44, IWU 43

4) IWU 32, Augie 25                         Augie 32, IWU 22

I'm not sure this really means a whole lot because the Titans had such huge leads in the first two games, but it is an interesting trend.

Q was doing the WJBC broadcast as usual, and the web company was just taking that WJBC feed, right?

Johnny Augie

cciw watcher,

Even some of the best fans of their teams need to be realistic and unbiased on how things are going.  Even though I usually stay positive about Augie, you can't blame Augiefan for giving his true opinion.  That is why this message board has been so great over the years.

augie22

CCIWWATCHER,
Relax man...everyone just chats about there team on the website.  No one is trying to make you upset about the whole thing.  There are a ton of Augie fans on this site, and for you to blow up at Q is quite crazy.  I watched the game from home and it was great...i was sitting on the edge of my seat all night long.  He makes the game enjoyable to watch, and for his comments about us grabbing and holding...well he is an IWU fan and of course he will be a little biased......that's life.   But you need to relax and just enjoy the ride buddy.   Go Augie!!!!!

Someone mentioned coaching about this game but i missed if anyone talked about it.  I was watching the game and i thought for most of the second half IWU was not playing team ball.  I'm not trying to imply the players were selfish but with the all-americans on the team i think they rely on their abilities to beat team based off of individual talent, and everyone knows this won't take you far in the CCIW.  That is just my vision of what happend.

So the Augie-IWU game was good.  Can I get some info on the Elmnhurst-NCC game?  Maybe the thread went by so far I couldn't get down to it.  Rehash it for someone who didn't get to listen to either one.  Is the CCIW going to get four teams in the Top 25 next week?

Despite my earlier misgivings about the conference tourney, I'm with Q!  (Though I think the Titans are a fairly safe bet for a C even if they don't make a comeback for the A.)

Barring a TOTAL meltdown by NCC or Elmhurst this weekend, the CCIW will have FOUR teams in the top 25 next week.  Anyone think THREE Cs are even remotely possible, or is that a total pipedream for those who envision a REAL national tourney?

When is the Green Nation going to bar Ypsi from making predictions??

Undefeated in the CCIW -- Ummm, no
Win at home vs. Augie by 18 -- Ummm, no
Titans are a fairly safe bet for a C -- Ummmm, yet to be determined.

The Green Nation must rise up and stop Mr. Ypsi's bad mojo from derailing what was once thought of as a Green train bound for NCAA DIII Hoops gloryland.

I think cciwwatcher is directing his comments in the wrong place.  Last night Q was the play by play announcer, right?  The guy who says "Wessels to Harrigan...Harrigan for 3..."  He was not the color guy.  I remember the color guy making some comments about Augie holding IWU, but I can't think of anything by Q along those lines at all.

joehakes

As someone who has no vested stake in the broadcast or the outcome, I have to comment to cciwwatcher that you heard wrong about Q's broadcast.  It was very well done and while he said "we" for IWU a few times, the broadcasters were both very objective in what they said.  The stream was absolutely great and it was a tremendous game to watch.  Why make a bunch of confrontational comments about something that you didn't even see?

With over 4100 logged in to the streaming video, and how many more listening to internet or other broadcasts of games all over the country, what a great night for DIII basketball.  I applaud whoever made this deal with Penn Atlantic.  Was it the CCIW office that worked this out?  Great job, whoever.

Nice first post...you didn't even see the broadcast and you're knocking down one of the more respected posters in this chat room.  You can rest assured that no one here will ever take a post of yours serioulsy.

Ah yes the Al Hanke Invite.  Thanks to those who responded.
Sunday I have a date at the PEC to watch the big game and hope EC can pull off another ranked upset.  They have beat Hanover, IWU, NC, came so close to knocking of UWP when they were ranked, etc.  the one glaring game that says, "what the *ell happened" is Millikin.
After reading the SID recap of the EC/NC game it looks like EC just stepped it up in the second half, and Martin's 3 pointer was the major blow.
Assuming Augie wins the CCIW and Wins the Tournament, who also gets in? EC/NC/IWU??
