What is the world coming to...the Pantagraph scooping Q unless I missed something

6-8/245 Parker Musselman (Normal Community H.S.) is a solid big guy recruit for Ron Rose and the Titans.  As a senior, Musselman averaged 12.9 points and 7.3 rebounds.  He shot .545 from the field, 15-39 from beyond the arc (.385), and .801 from the FT line.

Musselman helped Normal Community to a 27-8 season and a trip to Peoria in the 4A tournament.  He was named 1st Team all-Big 12 conference, Pantagraph All-Area 1st team, and IBCA 3A/4A 4th Team all-state.  He had a lot of small college options, including a scholarship from NAIA St. Francis (John Baines).

In 6-8/220 Drew Blumenshine (Peoria Notre Dame H.S.) and 6-8/245 Parker Musselman, IWU has added two nice all-state low-post players.

I guess Mark willl need to officially clarify, but I assumed he meant OT as in "Off Topic" as opposed to OverTime, which means the post was made before the hawks tied it up.

Per Illinoishomepage.net, Ron Rose has landed 6-3 all-state shooting guard Dylan Overstreet from 2A Paxton-Buckley-Loda.

Overstreet was named Champaign News-Gazette Player of the Year (which includes players from all levels) after averaging 17.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.7 assists this season.  His PBL squad was 29-0, before falling in the sectional semis to eventual 2A state champ Hales Franciscan.

Overstreet made all of the small school all-state teams...

- IBCA 1A/2A, 1st Team
- AP 2A, 2nd Team
- Champaign News Gazette, Second Team
- Illinois Basketball Services Small School, Second Team

A Division III head coach who saw Overstreet play this year recently sent me a note (when he learned he had committed to IWU), describing him as "a gritty workhorse who gets alot done out there. High basketball IQ."

He'll also be the valedictorian of his H.S. class.

Sounds like a very nice addition to both the basketball team and the university.

Looks like some really nice recruits for the Titans already in the fold.  I'm sure there will be more in coming weeks.

Graduation this Sunday -- all best wishes and congrats to the members of the class of 2011.  Good luck.  Come back to campus and to Shirk Center often.

Ron Rose is going to have some very nice problems to solve this season.  Recruits and current undergrad roster will need to hit the weight room and get into condition sooner rather than later.  I think "all positions open" would be a fair statement.

URockets

Additional IWU Commitment – 6'7", 185 lb. forward/center BRANDON HEYEN from Class 2A Paxton – Buckley – Loda (H.S. teammate of IWU Commit Dylan Overstreet)
Finished career as school's all-time blocks leader with 180 after racking up 86 as senior. Averaged 12.1 points and 7.8 rebounds this season for 29-1 team that set school record for wins. Shot 62.1 percent on two-point attempts and 56.9 percent overall, 11th highest in area. He ranks sixth in PBL career rebounds, field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

-   IBCA Class 1A/2A fourth-team all state
-   Illinois Basketball Services "Small School" Honorable Mention All-State Team
-   Champaign News Gazette 1st Team All Area
-   Placed 4th as a junior in 2010 2A IHSA dunk contest (IHSA didn't have it his Senior year)

The IBS September Showcase MVP at Millikin University:
(write up from IBS website) #55 BRANDON HEYEN, a 6'7" 2011 from Paxton-Buckley-Loda (IL) was named MVP of the IBS September Showcase. He stood out among the approximate 80 prospects participating and most college coaches who attended noticed his abilities and potential. He continues to show progress and with some additional muscle can be even more intriguing. He plays well inside, finishing and playing good defense on the other end. He has a nice touch when facing the basket. He will continue to improve and his best basketball is ahead of him.

Ron Rose has also landed an all-state combo guard from southern Illinois – 6-1 Connor Wheeler (DuQuoin H.S.).  Wheeler was a starter at Carbondale H.S. as a JR before transferring to DuQuoin for his SR year.

As a senior, Wheeler averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.8 steals per game.  He was named to the following all-state teams:

- AP Class 2A, Second Team
- Illinois Basketball Services Small School, Second Team
- IBCA 1A/2A, Third Team

Wheeler scored 36 points in the All-Star Classic in Marion in late-March, connecting on 10 of 12 3-point attempts.  He scored 18 in the Midwest High School All-Star Classic, featuring top players from southern Illinois and Missouri.  (That article mentions that Wheeler was "considering Illinois Wesleyan, Air Force, Navy, and Austin Peay.")

This was another one of IWU's big guard priorities on the recruiting trail this year...I'm sure the staff is thrilled with Wheeler's commitment.
