I'm wondering what happened to the entry from one of our most prolific posters that appeared yesterday regarding his receiving a note advising that 1st team all-conference member, freshman Landon Gamble of North Central, was supposedly "shopping himself to scholarship schools"?

I'd love to know more about this:
*Who wrote the note? Is the source a usually reliable informant, someone with inside information, or just a voice out of the blue?
*Is it a case of the player shopping himself, or of a scholarship school approaching the player? Of course, that would be illegal and no scholarship school would ever do anything like that.   ::)
*What was the source of the mystery author's information?
*Why does this post no longer appear on the board? Was it a hoax/attempt to stir up trouble? If so, was the perpetrator our prolific poster or the mystery author??

I don't believe the original post made any reference to the mysterious author being a usually reliable source of information. If such is not the case, perhaps the missing post was, in the least, a bit irresponsible without first checking the reliability factor.

I've spoken with both a couple of North Central players and coaches. None advised of any knowledge of such activity. Accordingly, if the the player in question has made inquires, he is doing a good job of keeping his cards close to the vest. In all honesty, if the coaches, and possibly the players, did know this was going on, they likely wouldn't confirm it to me anyway. Especially not until they had the opportunity to further investigate. However, I have no reason to question their denial at this time. Also, I know the player mentioned to be a stand up type of individual who it seems likely would go to the coaches first if it was his intention to make inquires regarding a possible transfer. I'm not saying this isn't possible. There are all kinds of reasons a player might want to transfer including a desire to fulfill a dream to play at a scholarship institution, family financial matters, or even chasing unrequited love. The list goes on.

A curious scenario to say the least.
And inquiring minds would like to know.

I removed it because the person who told me (who has provided me with nothing but credible information over the years) asked me to, out of respect for North Central.  But hey, if you want to stir it up (after it was deleted after being here for just 15 minutes), that is your call.

We're just trying to draw you out of your off-season bunker, Rob. ;)

Works for me. Thanks for the explanation, Bob.

enjoyed meeting the new North Park coach Howard at Tre Kronor this evening - a real nice guy.  There were about ten former Vikings in attendance.  Thanks to Marc Horner for arranging the dinner.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I should point out that I saw Coach Howard and his wife eating at the Pit (aka Charcoal Delights to the uninitiated) on Wednesday, so he's clearly sussed out the pecking order of NPU's neighborhood eateries (Charcoal Delights and Tre Kronor, good; McDonald's, Subway, and Jimmy John's, bad).

Don't know if he's crossed the threshold of Smokey Bears yet.

Oh I love Nebraska, how can you not love a place that has this...which is awesome.

my family and i got to experience the flooding of the north platte river when we drove off interstate 80 to see the pony express station in gothenburg - definitely six inches deep and a mile wide.

I've also driven from Chadron to Valentine in northern Nebraska (and it is a big long state).
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Nebraska is also home to two of the best ever high school nicknames;
Omaha Benson Bunnies
Minden Whippets

Did Minden steal the name from Garrison Keillor, or were they they whippets even before A Prairie Home Companion?  A fantastic name, especially for wide receivers (or shortstops)! :D

Robberki, I don't think anyone meant any harm with the Nebraska shots - and even you would have to admit that for someone anxious to arrive somewhere else, Nebraska is one LONG and somewhat tedious (if you don't get off and explore it) drive!  Consider it 'rookie hazing' into the Big Ten! ;D

upnorth

Whitewater High School in Wisconsin is also the Whippets, ever since the 40's or 50's.  (Before that they were the Quakers.  Why?  no idea).

Of course, for truly strange nicknames a person needs to travel to northern Wisconsin or the U.P.  Examples:  The Hurley Midgets or the ever-popular Watersmeet Nimrods.  (Both are iron mining terms, not comments on the people who live there.)

i feel the same way driving across ohio on my way to upstate new york's adirondack mountains - not much to see along interstate 90.
