Hey, finally something we agree on -- I definitely called you an assclown.  Maybe we're breaking new ground.

4. I believe it was Titan Q, he the originator of the term "assclown" to describe a poster whose opinion he disagreed with, who last year labeled Mr. Pierce an "embarrassment" to the Carthage program. Lord knows that he and I have had occasion to differ on both form and substance. However, in this case, I believe a majority of those, myself included, who have observed Red Men Mr. Pierce and Mr. Guzman would be in agreement with his description.

Or, more properly, the COMPLETE quote showing what we agree on is your identifying the concerned players as an "embarrassment."   ;)

As far as the use of the term "assclown" we agree it was you who coined the term.

However, I'd submit that the real ass is the one who needed to resort to a profane term to describe another poster with whom he disagreed.  :-*

Not taking sides, I just love the term assclown.  I appreciate and encourage any and all usage of the term

So let me get this right, you act in bad taste and then when someone calls you something in bad taste, you're offended?

That's rich.

Luke Johnson will be a very good fit at Carthage if he likes to rebound.  Whatever others say about the conditioning of the Carthage bigs last year, the biggest problem they had was rebounding and there lack of.  Pierce is a very good player in many respect, but his D is a touch slow and his rebounding isn't that good.  Thompson lets himself get out of position too much on D.  Johnson may be able to complement both of these guys and help out a lot.

The other speculation on why he chose Carthage over other schools and describing certain Carthage bigs as "embarassments" is in poor taste and people here should try to show more respect for the 18 to 22 year old kids they are talking about.

bopol---

1. If Luke Johnson doesn't "like" to rebound chances are high that Bosko won't "like" to play him very much.
2. You stated the biggest problem the Carthage bigs had last year "was rebounding and there (their?) lack of." Evidently you don't understand the fact that because two of the Carthage bigs each weigh 290 pounds, they a) aren't quick enough to get to many rebounds and b) can't jump high enough to control it. Accordingly, they are not able to rebound as well as you might expect.
3. Regarding Tyler Pierce you stated  "his D is a touch slow and his rebounding isn't that good." And the answer is---he weighs 290 pounds for God sake.
5. As far as your assertion that "people here should try to show more respect for the 18 to 22 year old "kids" they are talking about." Perhaps some of those 18 to 22 year olds should show more respect to themselves.
6. While they may be "kids" especially compared to a fossil like me, in college its called MEN'S basketball, not BOY'S basketball. Upon graduation to the MEN'S league, these young men lose some of the protection rightfully afforded to them as boys.

Andone, agree on 1.  Bosko needs rebounding.

2-6, pretty much the bad taste I was talking about.  No reason to talk about student-athletes that way, but no sense in encouraging you.  For whatever reason, the other forums I read on college sports can handle that, but not here.

This is the sort of thing that has a way of working itself out in a program that is doing a good job of recruiting. What I mean by that is this: Mitch Thompson came into the Carthage program as part of a trio of freshman bigs alongside Tyler Pierce and Raul Guzman, and he's turned out to be a good player who might get even better. Last year the Red Men added yet another front-liner, Nick Bauch, who also shows signs of becoming an accomplished CCIW big man. Now Carthage has added Luke Johnson, and, while nobody knows yet if he'll pan out, the preliminaries on him are very favorable.

In other words, because Carthage has kept on adding quality bigs, the whole debate that you two are having over whether or not it's acceptable to cast aspersions upon Pierce and Guzman for their lack of dietary self-control may eventually become moot. If Bosko has other bigs who have conditioning and mobility to go along with their size and talent, Pierce and Guzman will find themselves stuck on the bench and therefore irrelevant to any CCIW Chat commentary.

Certainly only borderline, at most.

Reminds me of one of my nephews (now 27, then 3 or 4) who 'cussed' by saying "poop your butt".  I found it hilarious, but his parents were not amused. ;D

Bauch did improve a lot last year.  My biggest problem with Thompson is that let's the player he is defending get the ball too deep in the paint (like he's not quite strong enough), and he gets himself out of position on rebounds on defense by going for blocks.  I swear you can see him start to drool when a guard comes into the lane.  Both problems are fixable.

I think Pierce will continue to play a role. Unlike Thompson, you can't move him and he is a good passer for a bigger man.  I sometimes wonder if Pierce shouldn't be a tightend instead of a basketball player.

In the case of Guzman, I think he'll be hurt by the loss of Steve D.  His value came in his plus shooting when he was open and Steve D's driving created a lot of opportunities for him.  We saw less of that last year (both Steve D's driving and Raul Guzman's shooting) and I don't think Malcom Kelly will be able to set him up the same way.  The unique skill set can still shake things up, but I think he'll be more of a role player going forward.

On the guard/small forward side, I am feeling pretty good even though Steve D is gone.  Kelly is a very good player and Max Cary can be excellent at times.  Hopefully we see a more consistant effort out of both this year.  With Dombrowski coming in and Kladis (I like his hustle), I think they could set a very good 8-9 man rotation and create mismatches.  Next year should be very interesting.

So, after how many years, we've finally stumbled upon the proverbial needle in a haystack:  something "....irrelevant to any CCIW Chat commentary".  Leave it to Greg to find it.   ;D
