AndOne

I don't know Pete. I think AndOne is a pretty fitting basketball moniker. Its one of the most often quoted phrases
in describing basketball action/highlights.  :)

Or, would you prefer something like  "The Birdman of Naperville"?  ;)   :D

I'm familiar with the term, Mark.  Just looking to give you the karma shot in the arm you have been seeking for a year or two now.  Birdman might be an interesting experiment......

saw wheaton's announcement that the new AD is Julie Davis an alum who has been on the athletics staff since 2004.  any reaction to this hire?  somehow, i picture her struggling to deal with some of the current coaches.

Well, I think Coach Swider might be close to unmanagable much like the late Harve Chrouser.  Both coaches who knew what they wanted and they find a way to get there even if they have to go around the people they work for.  Good people, but on a mission.

I cannot confirm this at all, but someone told me today that Millikin fired A.D. Joe Hakes.  It doesn't seem like 3 years is a fair amount of time to evaluate an A.D...especially one who inherited the mess Hakes did.

I hope my information is wrong, but it seems pretty solid.

Millikin's 2011-12 roster lists only eight players of which one is a senior.  Zero freshmen after a one win season.

Most 2011-2012 rosters aren't even up yet, and the vast majority of those that are will only have returning players listed at this point.
Millikin may not have any freshmen this year, but its too soon to say so based on rosters that may be up on any school's basketball web site presently.

Boy, I sure hope that this is a false rumor. There's nothing on the Millikin website or the Decatur Herald-Review website about it. Not only is Joe Hakes my friend and a former Parker, but Bob is exactly right that three years is too short a period of time to fix the total disarray that Millikin's athletic department was in when he arrived.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Matt Nadelhoffer will have a full crop of freshmen basketball players this year at Jimmy Millikin.

The only evidence that I can find about Joe's status at Millikin is that he is not listed in the staff directory on the Big Blue website.  hope that's just an oversight of some sort.

A little more on the Millikin situation:

Joe is not listed on the Millikin page that lists info about the program on the CCIW website.

Along, MU just inaugurated a new president who promised major changes at that event.  He came from Texas Wesleyan College.  Maybe he and Joe didn't see eye-to-eye on things -- that happens a lot, especially when  the President really doesn't understand Athletics.

Still am hoping that this rumor is not true.

carthagealum

Noticed today that Carthage's President Campbell is going to be inducted into the Carthage athletic hall of fame this weekend. It would be tough to argue that he hasn't had a major influence on Carthage athletics throughout his years of service. http://athletics.carthage.edu/news/2011/9/25/HOF_0925113427.aspx 2011-2012 is President Campbell's last year at Carthage.

I can confirm that Joe Hakes is gone from Millikin. However, "fired" appears to be the wrong term to describe his departure. The decision was a mutual one.

Any word on what, if anything, this does to the job security of Matt Nadelhoffer?

Nothing at all, I'm sure, for this year.  But if the new AD comes from the outside, she/he could have someone in mind, someone they know,  etc.  This will be a year that you have to hope will be a good one for Matt.
