Ok, must be a full moon and I am not feeling well:

Thanks for the kind words April.

Army wife:  I love Augie.

Goodnight.

Titan Q

Today's Pantagraph article -- Third loss has Titans looking in the mirror.

The IWU/Carthage game can be heard on WJBC's main stream.  Our good friend John Weiser will also have the call on WRJN.

The Titans need to get back on track this evening.  Still a lot of season left.

Augustana 7-0
Elmhurst 5-2
Illinois Wesleyan 4-3
North Central 3-3
Wheaton 2-3
Carthage 2-4
Millikin 2-5
North Park 1-6

I know what you meant -- and you are not wrong -- it really only takes two this year ::)

For the conference tournament, is there a 3rd place game or not?

Just an FYI in case you can't make the game tomorrow.  The Elmhurst/Augie game will be aired on WRSE FM 88.7 or wrse.com.  I believe Jim Maxwell and Ben Loewe will cover the game, though I'm not sure who does the Elmhurst games for bball.  Looking forward to an exciting game tomorrow night.

The only conference I know of that does is the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference and I don't think that's a model you want to emulate.

Besides, you'd be sending one of your best Pool C contenders off with two consecutive losses -- not a great idea tactically.

Thanks Pat, that's what I figured the answer would be....I was just trying to calculate out what Elmurst would have to do the rest of the season to boost their QOWI and in-region win % enough to be in the possible area of a Pool C bid...doesn't look too good for them.

Pat Coleman

Good question. I don't know where the cutoff will be for the 18 Pool C bids since it's so many more than previous years, but I wouldn't say Elmhurst is completely out of the running.

We have to consider IWU not invincible at the Shirk at this point. If we believe they cannot run the table and must lose one game between now and then, that would make them 17-5 in-region entering the tournament and 18-6 if they end up in Pool C contention. That isn't great, no. But it could be possible.

They would want the Platteville game back, to be sure.

Yeah...they have a realistic chance if they can only lose one more game.  Then, they'd end up losing once more in the conference tourney, making them 17-6 in region as you said.

I spent awhile today ranking all the teams nationally to get a figure of where they rank nationally according to in-region win %

I figured that finishing around 50th place in QOWI and in-region win % would give them a shot atleast.  Like you said, with the expanded field, we don't really know where the cutoffs will fall thiis year.  A QOWI  of 9.800 is about the 50th place and there are 48 teams with in-region win % better than .800

Obviously these numbers will flucuate a little by the end of the season but they probably wont be too far off.

So I figured if they run the table and lose the championship game, then they will finish with a .783 percentage and a QOWI of about 10.261

If they lose once and win the rest minus the championship game, they'll have a .739 win % and a QOWI of about 9.913

So their QOWI would be a decent number but their in-region win % may be a bit lower.....only time will tell

I guess I should retract my statement that it doesn't look good for them and replace it with "it will be an uphill battle for them"

Anyone know how to get carthage games on the radio for apple mac computers?

Mr. Ypsi

Superfan,

That's the same ballpark I got on QOWI - depends of course how their opponents (PAST AND FUTURE fare the rest of the season).  Their QOWI should make them solid C candidates, though their winning % may be on the low side of the bubble.

As always for bubble-teams, it may depend on how many regular-season As suddenly become tournament Cs!

augie_superfan

Ypsi,

Yeah, their QOWI will flucuate a bit depending on their other opponents.  I went through their opponents and tried to figure out about what their final record would be if they continued to play similar as they had in the past.  They have the opportunity for 2 of their previous opponents to jump up a level while Millikin may drop below their current .500 winning percentage.  We will know much more next weekend after their big games tomorrow vs. Augie and next weekend @ IWU

I am told that for Broadcastmonsters.com you need Windows Media Player for System 10.1, but barring that, the simplest way is to download WMP 7 for Mac and listen in classic mode.

Macs are picky. You have to have the exact right player.

Redmen get blown out tonight. IWU shoots 85% from 3 in the first half and end half with a 19-3 run and it was over then.

Keena Johnson pretty much the only bright spot for the redmen. Jeffery was defended well all night. Tough night for the redmen.
