I'm a big Steve Marovich fan, but he made a professional mistake tonight.

I thought the exact same thing.

Maybe he thought it was newsworthy.  I can't think of a single time that I saw anyone kicked out of Tarble.

Happened to me once at a girl's volleyball game.  True story.

A girl's volleyball game? That must be an interesting story. ;)

How'd you get kicked out of a girl's volleyball game?

Hey, what's your take on the last couple of games?

Q - it must drive you nuts that you will have to keep this up until the first regional rankings come out in February... and there will only be three this year :).

I know, Dave.  I think that is why I am doing this actually...because we won't get a real regional ranking until Feb.  And, obviously, the regional rankings are so critical in NCAA tournament selection and seeding.

I like having a general sense (even if just a best guess) of what the Midwest picture looks like.

A correction of myself:  They do indeed sell Beer Nuts at the concession stand at The Shirk.  Keep snack'in.  Greg, come on down and I'll treat you to a bag!  No charge.

Thanks, Q, for the regional standings, data.  Very useful.  Hope the Lady Titans keep on com'in on, and get into the regional rankings on the women's side too, in coming weeks.  Why only three weeks of regional rankings this season?  The women won by 21 last night but didn't play particularly well.  Melissa Gardner is just amazing from beyond the arc.  Very few DIII defenders can stop Olivia Lett when she gets the ball on the block.

Games vs. Carthage should be good ones again this weekend @ Shirk.  The women's game especially is for the league lead in this first go'round, first cycle of the season.  Looking forward to it.

Here is the 2011 Championship Handbook (anyone know if 2012 is out yet?)...

http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/champ_handbooks/basketball/2011/11_3_mbasketball.pdf

Feb 2, 2011 was the first ranking last year (see page 6)...I assume this year will basically follow the same schedule.

I agree with the move to hold off until early February.  From a fan's perspective it is fun to see the regional rankings, so having the first in January was nice.  But I'm not sure there is really any actual value in doing it so early, when so much is going to change anyway before the final weekend.  Also, if you are going to use the "once ranked, always ranked" rule, doing a ranking too early probably brings a few teams into the ranking mix that don't deserve to be in there.

Bob... there is a "Pre-Championship Handbook" out... but I can't find the link... and I can't attach the file right now.

However, I can tell you the first of three regional rankings will be out February 8th!!!

Bob: Slight correction. IWU is now 12-2 rather than 10-2.

His records were in-region.  I haven't checked, but I'll assume 2 wins were out-of-region - Bob is not likely to make a mistake like that! ;)

Yes, as Chuck said, those are all "in-region" records above.  IWU's games vs Bethany and Staten Island are considered "out of region" and, basically, are meaningless.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Not quite meaningless... they are considered as secondary criteria :-)

Some interesting match-ups in the IWU-CC game for tomorrow.

Keys for the Titans:

* Get back to the big rebounding advantage IWU has enjoyed most games this season, IWU bigs outplaying CC's bigs.
* Disrupting Max Cary and Malcolm Kelley's scoring.  Seems CC's offense runs through them, from Q's stats and earlier reports on this board.
* Continued good, diverse offensive output, hopefully another strong, active game from Kman and good perimeter scoring from Zimmer, Rudnicki and Gonzalez as in recent big games.
* Increased, continued defensive intensity.
* Not looking ahead to game @ NCC on 1/18.  Each conference game important, one-at-a-time.  Protect home court.

********

We'll see if Parker Musselman comes a bit more into the regular varsity rotation.  Lincoln College beat IWU's JV something like 91-78 on Thursday night, with Mike Mayberger scoring 25, Musselman 17.

Glad to see fan poll on D3hoops.com entry page with 50% of respondents now saying that IWU will win the conference title.  Of course, nothing scientific.  But, for the Titans, confidence building, depth increasing.

Looking forward to the women's game, too, a key game in the CCIW race, equal in importance to the recent men's contests vs. WC and AC.  A big challenge for IWU facing #23 Carthage, with Ms. Jacklin having a tremendous season so far.  Can't wait to see Lett vs. Jacklin, head-to-head, two of the top players in the CCIW, perhaps even in all of D3hoops, this year.

Go TITANS -- both men and women.
