Great atmosphere Saturday night at Merner fieldhouse!  I thought the roof was going to pop off after a few of those Cardinal threes in the 2nd half.  The student sections were awesome!

Man, it was hot!

Actually, when NCC made 4 consecutive 3 pointers within a span of only 2 minutes and 4 seconds the roof didn't pop off. But, the friction caused by the balls ripping through the nets so rapidly did cause sparks which ignited an abandoned bird nest in the hangar rafters and burned a small hole in the roof.
Thats why North Central was unable to serve as a host for this weekend's opening games despite the NCAA'a intense desire to have them do so.  :-X

Good luck to all three CCIW teams this weekend as they "hit the road".

I agree with IWU70 (frame that G.S.) about you know what.

I also agree with G.S. that probably no overnight reservations will be needed by CCIW fans - I'd be surprised if any make it to the next weekend.

Actually, I think both NCC and Wheaton have a near 50% chance of advancing.

While IWU beating UWSP AND beating Hope on their home court would be amazing, I plan to be there.  I have not personally witnessed an IWU defeat in 42 years, and do not wish to start now! ;D 8-)

BTW, The best part of the whole bracket is that VA Wesleyan is the top seed in Wheaton's Bracket, and that just happens to be 3 hours from my house. Win two games! You can do it!! :D :D :D

How fast do you drive??
Well, since it is to a basketball game, about 25 over, and I will get a ticket. Actually, true story, I have only ever gotten three speeding tickets, all were when I was still in college, and two were to basketball games. Actually, two were to IWU playoff games specifically.

In my old age I usually drive around 5-8 over on the highway, unless most people are going waaay faster than me.  It's only 200 miles away though, and large stretches are now 70mph on 95. I just drove that stretch two weekends ago when I went to the Outer Banks. It might be as much as 3:15, but any more time you're adding is probably because you lived further west and further from the Toll Rd than me.

The fact that your karma is so low is seriously criminal. This is at least the fifth time I have still been chuckling out loud at one of your posts minutes later.

2nd that! Once he gets in the zone-he's good. The problem is that some people don't like semi-sarcastic humor! ;D ;D It is very funny though. ;D ;D ;D

Weak.

Sorry. I had to jump in when I saw eight posts in a row from old, old, old timers.

Hahahahahaha-it's early morning before my first meeting of the day-I'm easily amused  ;)

I am not sure if this has been mentioned on some of the other boards, but I am wondering if the way IWU has gotten in the last two years is going to have a dramatic effect on the way coaches start scheduling games.

Seems to me, if you are playing quality opponents, even if you lose, is rewarded more so than sub-par opponents (let alone when you happen to lose to said sub-par opponents.)

The CCIW has 2 of the 10 Jostens Trophy finalists...

http://www.iwusports.com/news/2012/2/28/MBB_0228123225.aspx

The Jostens Trophy is a national award created in 1998 by the Salem (Va.) Rotary Club to honor the most outstanding men and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess and community service. The trophy models the Rotary motto of "Service above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded Division III student-athlete.

Congratulations to IWU's Jordan Zimmer and Wheaton's Tim McCrary!

I can't imagine NCC hosting no matter where they're ranked. That facility, while having a cool retro vibe, is a dump.  When it was built, did people not need to go relieve themselves?  A place that seats 2000 having such limited facilities is crazy.  Add in the fact that so many seats having obstructed views because of the posts and I don't see them hosting anything.

Right you are 74. Give yourself a point.

Didn't you see all the signs directing fans to the heated port-a-potties in Championship Plaza between the football stadium and Merner Fieldhouse? What do you think that garage door in the middle of the west wall is for?

By the way, speaking of dump, campus security reported some kids relieving themselves in the parking lot at halftime in the vicinity of an old Chevy. Check your passenger side rear tire.  :-X

And, by the way, can't you give the hangar just a little credit? I mean how many dumps have you been in latelty that had a "cool retro vibe"?   :-\

I would like to go on record as saying that it is one of my favorite places to watch a game. If you don't walk in there and feel the history and think it should be preserved, you have no soul. I also have a new found respect for the head coach after reading the article about his seemingly level headed son being a janitor. I am sure the coach had much to do with the way the child was raised, and I think it is nice to see.

Having said that, I won't be rooting for NCC anytime soon.

My son-in-law was in this week-end for some family things and thought Merner was very cool. He is a basketball coach himself and would like have a "retro" gym like Merner available for use. To each his own ;D 8-)

FYI - for anyone who cares... Augie came out of my Top 25... but I couldn't put NCC in. I placed Wheaton there due to their wins over NCC (in other words, I have Wheaton and NCC even in my mind and Wheaton gets the edge with their wins against NCC).

A chance at redemption!  ;)

Mr. McHugh--

I was certainly pleased to see North Central included in the current D3Hoops Top 25 Poll. While you were unable  to "put NCC in" previously, I hope you were able to do so somewhere on your most recent ballot.
If so, in the words of an old cranberry picker, we thank you for your support.   :)
