Greg, I think "most of us" did have Augie winning the CCIW this year, so I guess "most of us" were wrong.  I admit I was the biggest naysayer and doubter of NCC, so I guess I was the most wrong, having them 4th.  I admit to my transgressions, and have recently commended AndOne and all the Cardinals appropriately on this board, admitting to my sins.  Anytime a team goes 12-2 is pretty darn commendable.  But those of us who had Augie first also missed badly, as they ended up 4th.  For that, it was impossible for me to hide my glee, joined by DGP.  Some habits in life are impossible to change.  In my case, glee at Augie's misfortune is one such life-long habit.

Glad CCIW got three teams in and hope all three can make some noise.  Seems most likely that WC and NCC will go the deepest into the dance, as IWU sure has a very tough draw with the Pointers and Hope.  But, one never knows this time of year.  Let's hope all three CCIW teams "get hot" at the right moment, i.e. this weekend.

Glad to have both you and Q as spell-checkers now . . . how do I deserve such expert attention?  Surely you both have better things to attend to.

Ah, OK. Now I see what you actually meant. But here's what you originally said:

Quote from: iwu70 on February 28, 2012, 02:40:56 PMAs you know, I was a doubter pretty much all year, but the NCC team proved almost all of us wrong and deserves the top ranking of the CCIW top-tier teams for sure.

(Emphasis mine.)

The words "pretty much all year" color the succeeding clause. The fact of the matter is that most of us did not doubt NCC "pretty much all year," and, in fact, as you yourself said you were a notable holdout. Not only did you have the Cardinals picked fourth, you were still the doubting Thomas where Raridon & Co. were concerned well into the CCIW season itself, when it appeared that the rest of us were all saying, "Hmm, looks like NCC has finally turned it around and is playing the way we expected the defending co-champs to play."

That's why I responded the way that I did. You appeared to be lumping us all together in the doubting-NCC-pretty-much-all-year category that you in fact actually had all to yourself, when what you intended your sentence to mean was that everyone was lumped in with you in the we-all-thought-Augie-would-win-the-league-instead-of-NCC category, which is true.

If I was an oddsmaker, I'd set it at about 100-1.

My program would set those odds closer to 500-1 but a darn good guess for just off the top of the head.  If you are interested I simulated the tournament 1 million times today and have the percentage of times each team made it to each round.  I'll be uploading those to my site tonight.  Individually, my program gives the following percent chance of each occuring for our CCIW teams:

Chance of reaching:        Sweet 16     Elite 8     Final Four      Championship        Nat. Champ

Wheaton                           30.2%       13.9%      7.2%                4.5%                   2.7%
NCC                                  31.5%       19.3%      8.3%                4.4%                   1.7%
IWU                                  17.2%       10.1%      6.4%                3.8%                   1.7%

The teams are ranked from best to worst in my system: 1) Wheaton  2) IWU  3) NCC

So, as you can see, NCC has the easiest road of the three teams in terms of getting to the second weekend.

I didn't, those are the results from the entire season's data.  They are all pretty close to each other.  Overall, my system has them ranked #5, #13 and #23 (Wheaton, IWU and NCC)....it also still has Augie #9 which we know isnt true at this point so take it for what you will.

augie_superfan----

I think the flaw in your system is the fact that the NCC Cardinals are currently playing nothing like they did in the early (non-conference) portion of the schedule. Accordingly, the inclusion of data from the entire season may not represent an accurate current picture.
Also, after last weekend, its difficult to understand how you could rank Wheaton and Wesleyan ahead of NCC. As evidence of such, I need only to point out that the system data you're using still ranks Augie above BOTH Wesleyan and NCC, and only slightly behind Wheaton. Lastly, as you, yourself state, regarding Augie being ranked above IWU and NCC, "which we know isn't true at this point."

The defense rests. Cross examination?

While computer programs may be fun to run and it is fun to project(why else would we fill out bracket(s) in the office pools. Not allowed where I work, however. The only thing that really matters is what happens on the floor. The teams that are on a roll will advance, the rest will go home and get ready for next season. Good luck to the CCIW this week-end. I will be following on live stats from the beautiful confines of the Al B. Carius track. Go Cards!
