Yes, good luck to the Cards and Thunder tonight!

Q, thanks for the matchup info and the good history of Titan wins against nationally-ranked, top teams.  I remember many of those games very well.  Saw several of them in the early a.m. hours, watching the streaming video in Hong Kong!  Hope the Titans can pull off another upset tonight.  Let's hope Jordan Zimmer is OK and doesn't do any lasting damage to his foot.

Good luck to Wheaton and North Central tonight as well -- and to the Titan and Carthage women.

GO TITANS !!!!!!!!!

Tonight will be the first men's basketball game ever played between Illinois Wesleyan and Hope.  This just seems bizarre to me considering...

* IWU is in its 103rd season of men's basketball...Hope its 107th

* IWU has been in the NCAA tournament 22 times with 44 wins...Hope has been in the tournament 23 times with 28 wins.  (There are two of the most successful programs in NCAA D3 history.)

* The D3 bracket is obviously constructed geographically, and Bloomington and Holland are only 260 miles or so apart.

It just seems hard to believe that this will be the first meeting of the two schools.

North Central beat Rose Hulman last night 74-71 despite RH shooting 57% from the arc (12-21) including 7-10 in the second half. 4 Cardinal players were in double figures including Tiknis and Gillesepie with 11 and Raridon with 10. Sophomore Landon Gamble led the way with 27 pts on 12-14 from the field.  Nice work Cards. They play WashU tonight in St Louis for a chance to get to the sweet 16.

The Thunder won 69-61 over Gustavus Adolphus at River Falls. I watched most of the fame and Wheaton had too much depth dor the Gusties. In the first half with McCrary and Garriot on the pine in foul trouble, Spencer Schultzes and Pflederer carried the Thunder to a 5 Pt halftime lead. Wheaton led throughout the 2nd half by as much as 11 and as little as 3. Schultzes led 4 players in double digits with 20. J-Pfled had 15, McCrary with a pedestrian 11, and Peters with 10. Seth Anderson led the Gusties with 22. They play Edgewood tonight at River Falls. Go Thunder.

Bob: I was going to post similar info about IWU's amazing success on the road in NCAA tourney games. Thanks for the history lesson. Maybe the most improbable was the 2010 game against Wash. U. who many thought would be 3-peat D3 champs that year. Just a few notes from Hope for the media:

1) 5 D3 teams have 1500 or more wins. In order, they are Wittenberg, Wooster, St. Thomas, IWU
(with 1523 after last night), and Hope (now at 1500).
2) Hope is 15-0 at Devoss this year.
3) Hope is 2nd in the nation (among 405 D3 schools) in FG% at .512.
4) Counting last night, Hope is now 28-24 D3 tournament games.

And IWU is now 44-20 (.69%) in D3 tourney games. But tonight will be very difficult and IWU needs several bench players to have career games.

Looks liike a tough one for the titans, but you never know what will happen. You gotta have heart and a hot hand once it gets down to tournament time. And it wouldn't hurt to have a stellar defnse as well.

Sounds like all the CCIW teams played tough, played well last night, had some really good first round wins.  Now, it gets tougher.  Wash U will be tough at home.  Seems WC may have the best shot tonight vs. Edgewood to get to the Sweet 16.

Is pretty amazing that Hope and IWU have never played.  GO TITANS!!!  Let's make more history by knocking off top-ranked teams.

Let's go CCIW, go TITANS!  Let's make some more noise, get to the Sweet 16!!!

Round two!

Sounds like the Jordan Zimmer news is not good.  I think he will make a token start and give it a go, but he's in more pain today than he was yesterday (and yesterday he was only able to play 3-4 minutes in the 2nd half).

The Titans will again need the rest of the cast to step up.  If Zimmer does not start, Ron Rose will go with Andrew Ziemnik in that 1 guard/4 forward lineup I mentioned yesterday.

Good luck Titans!

iwu70

After a horrible start, the Titans have fought back, now down only 2 at the half, 38-36, @ #1 Hope.  Zimmer has played, hit at least 2 treys in the first half, with 10 points.  Gutty.

GO TITANS!!!!!!!!!

Wheaton and Edgewood tied at the half at 28. The stream keeps on cutting in and out for me, which is fine, but confusing when it decides to catch up.... is that just my connection?
