On Jordan Zimmer's foot injury...

http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/basketball/men/zimmer-plays-through-pain-to-help-titans/article_9e6cd13a-6735-11e1-86f5-001871e3ce6c.html

Zimmer's injury is to the foot he broke last year, causing him to miss almost the entire non-conference schedule.  While the article doesn't say it, the fact it that he's probably playing on a broken foot.  They think the original injury a week ago in practice was a tiny fracture, which then got bigger in the UWSP game.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who was in Holland last weekend.  On Zimmer he said, "I only saw two types of shoe on Jordan's bad foot over the weekend - a walking boot and a basketball shoe."  (He was back in the boot all day Saturday...until he got to DeVos in the early evening.)

For Zimmer to play the way he did Saturday (28 points, 7 3-pointers), considering how bad his foot is, and considering that he basically could not play in the 2nd half vs UW-Stevens Point, is pretty amazing.

-----
"I was concerned. The way Jordan plays, he's got to move to get open. Nobody is going to leave him open," said Rose. "Saturday I couldn't imagine him being able to play. But watching him you couldn't tell. Only when there was a dead ball did you see him favoring it a little bit."

For a senior leader like Zimmer, would you expect anything less? It is VERY amazing.

I guess I never thought of Zimmer as that prototypical "tough" player, but this year he has really shown what he is made of.

The effort to play under those circumstances leaves me speechless.

I just hope he doesn't do any permanent damage by continuing to play on it.

And when you are a senior citizen, using a walker doesn't look like that much fun.

While we all appreciate Jordan's gutty performance, I, too, hope he doesn't do any long-term damage to his foot.  I've had a broken foot, too (late in my 40+ years of playing roundball, messing around with my teenage son who was a pretty good player) and I just can't imagine playing like he did on it.  Mine had to be wired, operated on and is now, 10+ years later, still doing OK, still holding in place.  No bball for me anymore, since about age 52.  I had my share, more than my share.  Have shifted to biking, golf, plenty of yard work . . . and, of course, professional Shirk Center whining.  It's quite a sport there, as you've all heard this season on this board.  :)

Good luck to Jordan and all the Titans this weekend.  Let's keep it rolling . . . hoping for that rematch with the Napervillains.  (Both my elderly, totally loyal Green Weenie parents are using walkers now at 93 and, indeed, it is no fun.  Being old is not for wimps.  But, if they could be in Wooster or Mt. Union this weekend, they would be -- walkers and all).

Was a nice piece in the Pgraph today about Jordan Zimmer and the Titan run to the Sweet Sweet Sixteen.  Yes, he's turned out tougher than many of us thought, too, esp. after that big hit, knock-down in the NCC game at Shirk.  Sounds like he will be in the boot again this week, and that Kman will be resting his sore back as well.  Some good, much needed rest . . . Spring break starts on Friday.

GO CCIW, GO TITANS!!!

IWU70

P.S.  Pretty cool, only IWU and Amherst still with both men and women's teams in the Sweet 16 rounds.

Zimmer's gutty performances remind me of Wooster's national POY, Brian Nelson, putting his team on his back after suffering a fracture in his ankle in the 2003 NCAA tournament.  He carried Wooster to their first appearance in the Final 4 and despite basically playing on one foot, still almost knocked eventual champ Williams in the semis.

You can do nothing but give props to senior leaders like Zimmer and Nelson who put their team first over their own pain and suffering.  And you can't tell me Zimmer's teammates aren't feeding off of what he is doing.  Just by Zimmer trying to go should be incentive enough for Zimmer's teammates, but he is still playing at a high level despite the injury!

"I can't get over what a gutty performance he displayed," IWU coach Ron Rose said. "His teammates really responded to that."

Thunder fans,

Still plenty of tickets available for Friday's game.  Only 2 hours away.  Wheaton won there on their trip to the Elite 8 w/KRay.  Ticket office is very helpful and pleasant, don't be shy.
GO Thunder.  Got to help them get to Salem so April can see them.  :)

It was Bryan Nelson, ScotsFan.

I've heard that the "W" Association makes its members run around the perimeter of Timken Gym in their underwear if they misspell the name of a Wooster All-American. ;)

Having fractured my foot during a personal training session a little over a year ago, kept going for the rest of the session, and then woken up the next morning with so much pain I started crying like a baby, I have to give serious props to Jordan. I don't know how he's doing it.

Flying back to Omaha from Phoenix...WIFI onboard.  Posting from 35,000 above Durango.

I've always wanted to join the Mile High Club, so this is exciting.

Yikes... Mile High Posting Club, right???
I was wondering the same thing:)
There are a lot of people on here who post way too much, but I am pretty sure if any of them actually tried to post while having sex, they would probably never get any ever again. ;D
Um... who said he was posting during? :) :)
The original post was in present tense. Just saying... You can't accuse me of having a dirty mind because #1, I knew he was talking about posting, and #2, I am a Wheatie ;D

I'm just glad you didn't make me climb a ladder and cut down the net with my teeth.
If she gives you too hard a time, two words: "swamp tennies". 8-)
Hah, is it bad that I don't actually remember the whole thing about swamp tennies??

Cardinal proposes a toast...."Join me in a toast to a great season to this point...raise your beer, Green Weenie, and your Club soda, Wheatie, as we celebrate the sweet 16 and the fact Augie isn't here!!"
:P ;D
This one is my favorite because I drink epic amounts of club soda. The 40ish bottles of wine I have in my collection at home would suggest that I am not really afraid of alcohol though. :P I even have some Guinness for Mugsy, but I just use it for cooking/baking. :-X

This board scrolls way too fast...

Does anyone know what day the teams leave for their various sectionals? I was thinking about whipping up a batch of cookies tonight when I get home from work... :D

At least it doesn't delete after 70 posts anymore. :)
??????????????????
Haha, so much truth in this statement. I could even go back and read all the posts from the time I was MIA... but I won't. :)

Newcardfan, the old boards "scrolled off" so if posts were coming fast and furious, you'd lose things that were the oldest when someone posted something new. After game nights the boards would scroll in less than an hour sometimes. This led to me archiving the boards, ie cutting and pasting them all into a document. People actually used to email me and ask me for the logs. I actually found them on my computer several months ago, at the same time that I found that pic I took of Greg eating his post. :D I should go through them and post exceprts of Greg and Q fighting. 8-)

Haha, I actually realized that I can't go to Salem this year. :'( Biggest work event of the year is next Saturday, and while I have help this year from the old manager who is consulting for us, I have to do it solo next year so I can't really afford to miss it. :-\ I can't even fly to the sectionals because I am leading the singing for the Young Adult worship night at my church this Friday. I will do better at planning my schedule around d3basketball next year, hahaha...

If someone who is leaving on Friday for the games is up for bringing cookies to the guys, I will overnight you a big box tomorrow, and for your courrier fee you can keep some... :D
