The number thing is cool, but not as cool as the history lesson from Greg and Pat.

While I was indeed here early on, I think that my 15 is a result of the admin rank, in case anyone is feeling too close to the back of the line.

There is no good reason that the CCIW shouldn't have two of the final four. Two of the three squads are good enough. And it seems fairly clear to me that the Wesleyan women are good enough to win it all. The CCIW has done well overall thus far into the 11/12 season. I hope the teams can keep the momentum going.

The more the merrier, it is amazing that some guys have been on for so long. Greg's history lessons are easier to read and reply to than his monumental posts. ;)

Yes, Travis Grant was awesome, a scoring machine.  I saw him in '70 in the NAIA tourney in KC.  IWU played Kentucky State that year, as I recall, or was it '66-67?  Ypsi?

Some pretty good ballers on that list:  Travis Grant, Lloyd B. Free, Terry Porter, Earl Monroe, Willis Reed, and IWU's own Jack Sikma.   Sounds like a pretty good line-up to me.  Add Coach Wooden off that list and you might go places! :)

JMatson, share your view that the IWU women have a good shot at the Final Four, even going all the way this year.  Would love to see it.

In hunting for other original posters with single- or double-digit numbers, it's no surprise that sac is #9 and Ralph Turner is #17.
Cough, Warren Thompson? Coach C? Do you not even remember who the other HoFers are? :P

Pat had already identified WT as #7 in a previous post. I had actually forgotten about Coach C, because I never cross paths with him on the boards anymore. He is #8.

USee and I are probably two of only a handful of CCIW football room readers left who remember the epic snark wars between the Mad Swede and TitanBooster ... or the hilarious non-sequitur adventures of Augustana head football coach Schmitty Torkelson in those brief, two-sentence gems by Attaboy Augie.

diehardfan,

That is a classic reason for joining the board!

It's like Donnie Brasco!

from IMdb...

Donnie Brasco: An FBI undercover agent infilitrates the mob and finds himself identifying more with the mafia life to the expense of his regular one.

Does that mean that Pat is Lefty Ruggiero?

It was 1970.

Was surprised at one name missing from the player list: George (Iceman) Gervin of Eastern Michigan.  Maybe they still hold it against him that it was in an NAIA tourney game that he punched out an opponent, thus getting himself thrown out of school and getting a headstart on his ABA and NBA Hall of Fame career! ;D

From wikipedia...

The school's mascot was changed from the Crusaders to the Thunder in 2000, as the image of a mounted Crusader was deemed potentially offensive and reminiscent of a controversial period in Christian history. The change was noted in the national press, and some alumni objected to the change. Other suggestions for a new mascot name that were rejected included the Mastodons — a reference to Perry Mastodon, which is a mastodon skeleton that was dug up nearby and is now on display on the college campus in the brand new science building. While still known as the "Thunder", in 2010 the mascot was officially changed to a mastodon named "Tor Thunder" to integrate the official and unofficial mascots.[35]

Not sure if this is accurate, but either way, from now on, I am calling them the Wheaton Mastodons.

I think this is a difference between what is defined as a mascot.  Wheaton's official mascot, or team name, is the Thunder.  Wheaton's mascot (much to my chagrin and Sager's delight), or character that roams the sidelines, is a mastodon named Tor.  I personally am against Tor, but they also didn't ask me about it.   ;D

The mastodon was found in Oct 1963 in the backyard of Federal Judge Sam Perry who lived on Crescent Blvd in Glen Ellyn, which is the town immediately east of Wheaton and WC. I lived in GE at the time and remember going over after school to watch the excavation. It was given the name Perry in honor of the judge. I don't believe it went on display until 10-11 years later.

I think Wheaton is lucky it isn't known as the Mastodons. Could really have some fun with that one.
Personally, I always thought Crusaders was a perfect nickname for WC---as in the Billy Graham Crusades. I thought it was kinda dumb when the name was changed to the Thunder. Could have some fun with that nickname too, especially in the, lets say, social realm.  ;D   ;)   ::)

After reading all of these points I realize I am so out of this loop :(. There does not seem to be a group of more recent members that stay on the boards. Here and there you see new names, but not too many.

I'm a newbie, but because I am just learning to enjoy d3 sports there isn't much for me to contribute.  I do enjoy lurking however, and learning from all of your collective wisdom (and it IS often entertaining).
For example....the afternoon I found myself researching the history of The Belt (sorry, don't know the trick for the tm).
So thanks for having me!
Yea, are you an alum of D3 or do you have a son/daughter playing?

I've been here almost 6 years, but I am a mere tadpole compared to several of the real veterans who are still around.

I think Wheaton is lucky that nobody knows the plural for Snuffleupagus.

Snuffleupagi?

Snuffleupagsuses?

Maybe we should just ask him.
