In hunting for other original posters with single- or double-digit numbers, it's no surprise that sac is #9 and Ralph Turner is #17.

(This convo happened a week ago but I'm late) I was kinda surprised to see I was in the 1200s... I thought I'd be a little bit higher... but at some point I think I was removed from the board LOL.

Mr. Ypsi

I am SO jealous of posters going to either Salem or Holland.  I was mulling over which to go to and then remembered that WE are hosting a St. Patrick's Day party.  OOPS!

Serves me right for making plans when neither Titan team was getting much respect! :P

Fortunately they are all old friends, so if either (or both ;D) teams make the finals, they will be understanding if I am not much of a host (hell, some may even join me at the computer). ;)

It will be a tough slog for both:

t#31 IWU (men) is up against #3, #5, and #8.  But we have already beaten #27 (neutral), #1 (@#1), #13 (@#13) and #22 (neutral), so 'piece of cake'! ;D

#16 IWU women face #12 (but we beat #6 AT #6, so been there, done that ::)); facing the winner of unbeaten #1 vs. unbeaten #3 would be a challenge!

In the poll we are #4 in each.  I'm betting on a #1 and #2 finish! 8-)

Don't know the reason why the IWU men's bsketball team is staying in a motel on the outskirts of Seville, Ohio, 20 miles from Wooster. I think a women's hockey event in Wooster might be the reason. Wonder if Wooster memtioned that to the D3 committee before Wooster was chosen to host the sectional for the second consecutive year.  8-) Coincidentally, Wooster's road record (not including neutral court games) in D3 tourney games is an appalling 1-10! Their record when playing tournament games at home is 19-5, including the 58-53 win over IWU in 2004.
Division 1 Hockey Tournament, Bowling Tournament and, Oh Yes, my favorite - a cattle auction --- all have rooms tied up before the NCAA awarded site to Wooster which is something I doubt College of Wooster could anticipate.  But, the NCAA had to know about the Hockey Tournament

Hey, the NCC Cardinals were 30 miles away in Mansfield. But seriously, as you said, the NCAA   certainly had to know about the hockey tourney. Just another example of the NCAA operating with its head up its a$$. Its certainly not the 1st time we've seen that play. 3 CCIW teams in the round of 16, but none worthy of hosting. Instead, the NCAA chose to have Wooster, a rural town of 25,000 with 5 hotels, the best 4 of which were already fully booked, host for a SECOND weekend. Of course Naperville, a city of 145.000 boardering on a major interstate and having 16 hotels with a total of 1481 rooms wasn't worthy. And Wheaton and Bloomington (not that IWU needed any extra help  ;)) evidently weren't worthy either.

The UWW announcers are brutal. They have mispronounced multiple Wheaton player names. Different versions of Pflederer and Serenius even with the PA announcer saying it right.

that's what happens when the average ACT score of a UWW student is a negative number  ;D

... Which C in CCIW stands for classy?  Oh, neither of them?

Hey, don't paint us all with the same broad brush. Dennis doesn't speak for me.

I know.  It wasn't intended for the whole group by any stretch, though it did come off that way.  Sorry.

a bit defensive are we ?  if the shoe fits, where it.

congratulations to all the cciw teams for learning how to dance.

If being a champion against prejudices (as I am) is being defensive, then yes, I guess I was being defensive?

I didn't go to Whitewater.  I'm not a Whitewater fan.  I am a supporter of the WIAC, but I'm also a supporter of the CCIW.  It's more the CCIW supporter in me that looks at the comment that you made and really wonders about the heart behind it.

And, oh wise one, for somebody extolling the intelligence (or lack thereof) of an entire group of people, you might want to be more exact with your grammar.

For what it's worth, I think that the two students who did the video broadcast of the Wheaton/Whitewater game did a pretty good job, overall.  I think they would be the first to admit that they weren't perfect and are still learning... but they also were doing their second game in a row, having done the Va Wesleyan/Whitworth game immediately preceding the Wheaton/Whitewater game.

I mean, if you really have a problem with it, ask for your money back.

Oh. It was a free service provided by the (public) university.  Guess you can't.

2 comments--One I believe Point will agree with me on, and one I sense will cause him to think my Mad Cow Disease is acting up.

I have a brother-in-law who graduated from UWW, and he is a smart enough to manage a communications company that provides telephone, computer, and TV service to SW Wisconsin. So, they turn out at least a few smart guys up there in Whitewater.

Its nice that a "Division 3" school has the wherewithal to own and operate its very own TV station. Of course that (public) school has over 10,000 students who can pay much lower in state tuition than students at smaller private schools, and is part of a state owned and operated, and funded educational system. So, its not really surprising that the state school has the financial resources necessary to own/operate said TV station. I'll bet that their recruiting budget is also slightly larger than your average (private) college/university. JMHO  ;)

IWU fans can get a good look at Wittenberg here.  #45 Clayton Black has some serious hair.

i would suggest that, if/when illinois wesleyan wins tonight, they grab #45, make him sit in a chair at midcourt, and shave him bald. that hair has to go ....   :P  (plus, he's a philosophy major, for cryin' out loud!)

You forgot he also needs to be castrated!
Sounds like 1970 when all us long haired (yes, I used to have some) freaks were labeled as hippies and/or Communists.  :)

As far as being a philosophy major, the only thing I remember about the one philosophy class I took was the A that I got on a one question test. The one question was "prove the chair you're sitting on is really there." And my answer was "Gee, professor, if the chair wasn't there, my ass would be on the floor." A philosophy major for gosh sake. No wonder his hair is so long! And you bet I'm jealous  :)

Quote from: newcardfan on March 09, 2012, 10:05:55 PMI went back to AndOne's  post from Senior Day and he mentioned two names

I had to go all the way back to Mark's February 18 post to see his one, off-hand mention of the fact that Broyles is a senior as well. But, meanwhile, the NCC website maintains that Broyles is a junior.

Quote from: newcardfan on March 09, 2012, 10:05:55 PMand you know I meant participation in four seasons in any sport now didn't you;)?

No, I didn't.
Maybe Broyles is a senior in the classroom, but missed a year of basketball somewhere along the way?

Ryan Broyles is listed as a junior on the NCC basketball web site because NCC lists by eligibility, not class status. Ryan attended College Of DuPage, junior college in nearby Glen Ellyn, for 2 years before enrolling in NCC. However, he only played basketball for 1 year. Therefore, he does have one year of eligibility remaining. However, its highly doubtful he will use that remaining year as he is on schedule to graduate in June. Due to the high degree of probability that he won't be back next year, the basketball team wanted to be sure to honor him for his contributions over this season and last, and therefore did so on Senior Night.
Ryan is a very hard worker who gave the starters a hard time in practice while bringing a bit of an "off the wall" personality and welcome sense of humor to the team. As far as actual on the floor contributions Ryan will primarily be remembered as the guy who saved the Cards butt and kept them in the 1st half of the game at Elmhurst, and for hitting a pair of FTs at important junctures in  2 other games this year that ultimately resulted in Cardinal victories.

To be clear, I have no problem with the College of Wooster whom was a good host.  Wooster administration and athletic department did a really good job including handling all the ticket sales on site without any hassle.  I think the NCAA needs to find a way to communicate site challenges with the fans as well as the teams.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

This "problem" isn't uncommon... Amherst hosted the women's sectional along with hockey this past weekend. They hosted the women's regional, the men's game, and the NESCAC hockey championship.

If a school says they can do it... then why take it from them. Schools could pull out of hosting if they want... but I can't think why Wooster would do that.

Congrats to NCC and Wheaton on outstanding seasons. Sweet 16. Very nice work indeed by both squads.
Congrats especially to IWU as they advance into the Elite 8.

I personally felt the IWU/Woo game was not as close as the final score. I think IWU was the better team by more than 2 points. Additionally, I will be very surprised if the Titans are not playing in Salem next weekend.

While my prediction came true, I really can't crow about it very loudly. It wasn't really difficult to see that Wesleyan really was a better team than Wooster by more than the final margin of their 2 point win. Furthermore, I was even more confident they would top Witt as it appeared to me that the Titans had the inside power to fight Witt's tough and talented duo of Brandt and Black to about a draw, while having superior talent on the perimeter both in terms of ball movement/passing, and shooting. So in summary, it didn't take a basketball genius, which I'm certainly not, to see that the Green Weenies were very likely to be among the 4 teams playing on the final weekend.
Additionally, from what I've read so far, it doesn't look like their semi-final opponent has played what you could call a real demanding schedule so it appears Weenie fans may have good reason to be optimistic about the next game for reasons other than the fact they wear green tinted glasses.

And I likewise want to make it clear that I felt Wooster did a good job with the tournament itself. Nice facility and nice people there at Woo.
My problems were 1) the rural location, an hour off the Interstate, made it a little difficult to get to, 2) due to the hockey and bowling tournaments, already planned before Woo was named a host, you couldn't even stay in town, or anywhere close for that matter (IWU was 20 miles away and NCC 30 miles), and 3) I just don't believe a team should get to host BOTH the regional AND sectional rounds. And thats the NCAA's fault, not Wooster's.
