TBF, I do agree with you, if your supposed to win the game and don't, you can only blame yourself.  I'm just a little more of a traditionalist that feels we should award the best team from the season, not the best team from a 2 game tourney.  What can I say?  I'm a greenie.  We are Dennie disciples, although I don't fully drink the kool-aid.  I do believe in the 3-point line and I think a dunk does do more for your team in a game than just count for 2 points, but I digress.  Irregardless, if Augie wins the regular season and IWU wins the tourney, I still say Augie should get the automatic bid.  That's my story.  I'm sticking to it.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

"Look at his user profile"!? "I checked the online IWU alumni directory and the '03-'04 campus directory"!? "I'm pretty sure he was leg-pulling" (pretty sure?)!?

Sweet merciful crap, people! Don't any of you watch The Simpsons? Was my calling Mugsy "Moe Syzlak" not enough of a clue? The fact that "Hugh Jass" was some Simpsons watcher's lame and imitative attempt at being funny on Post Patterns should've taken you all about half a second to realize.

At least Mugsy redeemed himself a little by 'fessing up to his gullibility. That's the way we like our Wheaties: Honest and credulous.  ;D

Let's sharpen up our pop culture awareness, CCIW Chat regulars. This was embarrassing. You'll never find any of the MIAC people checking the Gustavus Adolphus alumni directory to see if Kel Varnson is the real name of a GAC grad.  ::)

Congratulations to the Hammer!  Has she received a recruiting letter from the Titans yet?

Alright Ypsi...I usually agree with your analysis on things.  You usually take a statistic approach to things which I love since I was a physics/math major myself.  But, please, I hope that you are joking about Adam WHUPPING Dee in the exhibition game...please.

As far as Mr. Ypsi's comment about the Brown vs Dauksas matchup on Nov. 3, remember, this is the guy who picked IWU to go undefeated in the CCIW this season and then last week picked the 2 loss Titans to beat Augustana by 18+ points.  One must add some kind of "Ypsi factor" when reading his stuff.

a_s,

While I think it is quite remarkable the the d3 AA outscored the d1 AA 13-8, I was pretty confident that everyone would recognize I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek.  Of course 'WHUPPED' was poetic license (and an attempt to stir people to vote for Adam for the Cousy!.

but, Q,

I make enough dumb predictions that I don't appreciate being flayed for predictions that I didn't make!  Aside from one post (which, in context, was clearly from the heart, not the head), I NEVER predicted the Titans would go undefeated.

Reply 1498: "IF the Titans can get by both Hanover and Puget Sound, I'm CAUTIOUSLY optimistic they really can run the table.  I realize it is NEARLY impossible to do in the CCIW, but I've raised my odds to 25% chance."

Reply 1787: "I'm raising the odds of running the table in the CCIW to 30%, and their odds of a national title-winning undefeated season to 20%.
"While the odds are still against it..." (it was in the rest of that post where I predicted they WOULD win out, but in context, that was a giddy reaction to their sweep in California, and AGAINST what my head said).

And if I was drinking the 'Green Kool-Aid', I was not alone.  Ironically, 2 fans of the only team who COULD still run the table beat me to it:

augiedad (reply 1234): "I think 14-0 in the CCIW is possible."  (He was referring to IWU, not Augie!)

augiefan (reply 1553): "It is beginning to look like IWU has a chance to go through the season and through the tournament for an undefeated National Title."

And from one of my favorites (despite not having much Green blood!):

Hiker Jim (reply 1782): "If Wesleyan defeats Westmont, I say they'll go undefeated in the 2006 half of this season."

and HJ (responding to my 30% prediction - reply 1790): "Yps, I give it more than your 30% for the regular season!"

As to the 18+ predicted win over Augie, please recall that it was HIGHLY qualified:

(reply 2563): "I do NOT expect such an outcome this year [referring to the 28-3 start in RI in 04 and the 29-4 in B-town last year], and have GREAT respect for Augie's performance so far.  (In the Posters' Poll I placed Augie ahead of IWU.)  While I have no real basis for it, I just have a gut hunch that te Titans are going to blow out the Vikings.
"It's just a mindless gut-hunch: so sue me!! ;D"

and (reply 2578): "My prediction for tonight comes partly from the incredible depth IWU has upfront, but it is mainly just a gut hunch - quite frankly, I will be at least somewhat surprised if the Titans DO pull out such a big win."

Mr. Ypsi

As is probably obvious from the previous post, I spent much of today re-reading this entire board!  (Hey, it was better than my alternative options!  And brought a new round of laughter at some of the really off-the-wall digessions.)

Two questions:

Back when Elmhurst played Platteville, it was noted that on Mapquest they were 204.63 miles apart.  The official NCAA program is Microsoft's Streets and Trips.  At the time Pat responded that he would check, but there was no further post.  Since it is still listed as in-region, I assume that the checking showed it was - BUT, do we have any hope that Elmhurst actually has one less in-region loss than we think??!

There was a post early in the season that Nussbaum of IWU was injured and out for the season.  Is that still the diagnosis, and if so, any word on whether he will seek a medical red-shirt?  (As I recall, it happened so early that he would definitely be granted one, but d3 players often opt to get on with their lives.)

Any Chance of Carthage winning tonight at Augie? And what is the deal for the conference tournament?

I have not agreed with any of the predictions and speculations you've made about your alma mater's team thus far, Chuck, but I have to applaud you for your diligent use of the archives to defend yourself. A lot of people wouldn't have gone that extra mile to prove a point. I'd like to think that I can take some small credit for goading you in the past into doing your own research.  ;) I still think that you tend to drink the green Kool-Aid all too often, but the fact that you uncovered such non-Titans-fans as augiefan and Hiker Jim agreeing with you makes that charge harder to stick. Good job.

1. It's possible, although it's definitely not likely.
2. What do you mean by "what is the deal"? Are you looking for ticket prices? Location? Dates? Times? Pairings? An explanation of the process by which the CCIW finally approved a conference tournament? Please be more specific.

Greg,

Chuck, there is a saying that "perception is reality." While you added many disclaimers to your posts about IWU's odds of going undefeated in the league, the simple fact is that it came across as you predicting that IWU would do what no team in the CCIW has done since the 1973 Augustana Vikings (16-0).  Jack Sikma's NAIA powerhouse Titans didn't run the table...the 3-peat national champion North Park teams did not...the 1985 and 1987 North Park national champs didn't...nor did Augie's 1993 national runner up, IWU's 1996 and 2001 national 3rd place teams, IWU's 1997 national championship squad, and the Wiertel/McDaniel/Garnes Carthage group that went to Salem in 2002.  So understand how it is perceived by those who have a good feel for the CCIW when someone who hasn't seen a league game since 1970 starts posting odds of a team running the table.  Why do you think a regular poster from another board like "Sac" came here after IWU's first two losses to ask you:

1/4/06: "Cabs---what are the percentages IWU goes unbeaten in the CCIW now?

1/14/06: "Mr. Y----I need an update on the percentages of IWU going unbeaten in the CCIW."

My suggestion - stay out of the predictions game altogether.  Oh, and don't visit a sportsbook if ever in Vegas.  The Forum Shops at Caesars are a good place to kill a few hours in the afternoon and Ghost Bar at Palms is pretty sweet at night.
