Titan Q

There was a post early in the season that Nussbaum of IWU was injured and out for the season.  Is that still the diagnosis, and if so, any word on whether he will seek a medical red-shirt?  (As I recall, it happened so early that he would definitely be granted one, but d3 players often opt to get on with their lives.)

Chuck, it costs about $32,000 a year to attend Illinois Wesleyan now.  It is just not very realistic for a student-athlete to take a medical shirt.  Brian is doing well it seems and should be ready for the start of 2006-07 practice.

I figured Nussbaum would be a junior/senior year starter for sure.  With the torn labrum this year though, he'll have to work very hard with his rehab to get back in the mix.  If I had to guess right now, I'd say IWU's starting lineup next season will be:

G Andrew Gilmore (6/1/168, Fr)
G Jordan Morris (6-3/180, Fr)
F Andrew Freeman (6-6/200, Jr)
F Darius Gant (6-4/210, Jr)
C Zach Freeman (6-7/210, Jr)

A lot can change between now and November though.

How quick the titan fans change their tune a couple months ago they are talking National championship, and now they are looking to next year...

... titian fans ...

Wonder if Greg Sager will pick up on this. I believe he favors Rembrandt over zaftig red-haired women.  ;)

Greg,
I consider myself the Ralph Wiggum of this board.

Dan, I'm shocked that you didn't use the Ralph punchline, "Sleep? That's where I'm a viking!"

Warren, I favor red-haired women of any body type over each and every painter you could name.

Sheesh 2000!  I'm pretty sure the IWU fans still feel pretty good about their 16-3 Titans!

You win the drama award for the morning. :)

This afternoon at 4:30 NPU will be holding its annual induction banquet for the Viking Club's Athletic Hall Of Fame. This season two of the five new HOF inductees will be men's basketball alumni: Al May, the captain of the 1978 national championship team; and Marc Horner, the star center on the 1988-89 thru 1991-92 Vikings teams who scored 1,278 points for his career and was named to the All-CCIW first team twice.

Last on the program will be Rachel Pearson Bernero, class of '94, the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in NPU women's basketball history. Her presenter will be her husband, Tim Bernero, the Carthage women's basketball head coach and former assistant to Bosko Djurickovic at both North Park and Carthage who is perhaps best remembered on this board for the infamous noogie he delivered to Augustana coach Grey Giovanine after Antoine McDaniel had delivered a game-winning shot for Carthage in Rock Island several years ago.

Poor Tim has a home game to coach for the Lady Reds up in Kenosha this afternoon against Augustana at 2 pm. With no traffic, it should take him at least an hour and fifteen minutes to get from the Carthage campus to NPU's Hamming Hall. Here's hoping that he isn't waylaid by an overtime with Augie ... or by Illinois state troopers on the Edens Expressway.

Greg,
I consider myself the Ralph Wiggum of this board.

The best Ralph Wiggumism ever has got to be "I bent my wookie!"  Back when I had AOL, I substituted that for the "You've got mail!" sound... it made me laugh every time I turned it on!

I don't think you'll find many Augie fans gloating over the way the season is going right now, there is too much basketball left. My question is, what is bothering the IWU fans more, that their team is not undefeated in the conference at this point or that Augie is? I think that it's going to be an exciting race down the stretch. Time will tell. I'm not making any predictions. I've learned my lessson from cabonney.

Nussbaum is recovering nicely from the surgery, doing rehabiliation work and will be on the court next season.  I did not ask him about the medical red-shirt.

I went to grade--high school with Al Mays older 2 daughters ( Amy/Katie)  and AL even coached one of the Co-Ed Park District BBall leagues I played on.  He is a class act and great guy to be around.  Well deserved honor for him.  He lives 2 blocks away from me.
Dynamic matchup today down in Bloomington.  I think this game is a prelude to the first round matchup because I see EC/IWU as the #2/3 seeds in the tournament.

I don't know if you're asking, armywife, but neither of the things you mention bother me much.  The option of an undefeated season for IWU was gone after the first NCC game, so there's no point in being bothered by that.  And IWU can't control anything that Augie does until they play again, so that's not a bother either.  The disappointments have come during the times when the Titans didn't play to their potential, but of course the other team usually has something to do with that.  I just want to see the Titans play their best in each remaining game.  Just one fan's opinion.

Al was before my time as far as Vikings basketball is concerned. I don't know Al personally, but I see him at NPU games from time to time. Everyone who speaks of him around North Park has a lot of respect for him. His little brother Darryl and sister-in-law Sue were both at North Park at the same time as me. Darryl and Sue are in the Park's HOF as well, as both of them were All-Americans in cross-country.

I agree Hoosier Titan, I remember feeling that same way a couple of years ago when the senior class of Carstens, Clements, Thomas, etc. struggled. We felt that was going to be their year. I know they were frustrated by it as well. I'm sure the Titan seniors are feeling the same way. I guess the only difference is, they have the CCIW tournament to hang their hopes on, those Augie seniors didn't.

Where does Dauksas appear in the ranking for assists?  I think his 6.6 APG is his best stat, followed very closely by shooting 45% from trey land.

Dee Brown will not make an NBA squad next year.

You're crazy if you don't believe Dee Brown will be on an NBA roster next year.  He'll be a 1st round draft pick guaranteeing him a roster spot for at least 3-4 years!
