IWU softball bowed out yesterday, one game short of the final 8, trip to Salem for the Championship round.  A great season at 39-8, and a very bright future with every single player from this year coming back, a team with no seniors.

The addition of 6-3 combo guard Pat Sodemann from Division II Truman State could be a significant one.  Pat's father Bill was a longtime high school coach at Parkway West in St. Louis, and member of the Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame.  His brother Buddy (played at D3 Westminster, Mo) was IWU's grad assistant the last 2 seasons.  Other brother Chip also played for Truman State...just a real "basketball family."  IWU recruited Pat hard 2 years ago but he took the full scholarship to Truman.  Sodemann, who can play either guard spot well at the CCIW level, is not flashy but just a very smart and solid guard - someone you want on the floor a lot.  Kind of a Stephen Rudnicki.

He averaged 16.8 minutes per game at Truman State as a freshman in 2010-11, starting 3 games.  He missed all of 2011-12 with injury and was a medical redshirt...I think he will actually be a sophomore at IWU next year eligibility wise.  (Not 100% sure on that.)

6-6 G/F Ryan Coyle and 6-7 F/C Mike Marietti would seem to be the top recruits in terms of the HS seniors.  Sounds like both have big upsides.  I've heard good things about several of the others as well but being way out here in Cornhusker land I'm just not real in the loop on these guys.

Considering what IWU has coming back in the current FR and SO classes (some impressive talent), Ron Rose has done another great job here in bringing in what seems to be a great complementary class.

IWU golf T7 after round one in the DIII National Championship tournament in Florida.  7th out of about 40 teams. 

Women's softball finished at Sweet 16 level, on win shy of going to Salem.  Women's golf finished 8th in the nation, out of about 20 teams in the tournament in Indiana. 

Good stuff.  Baseball just starting in Tennesee this Thursday, I believe.  Titans seeded 6th out of 6 there, facing #1 seed Birmingham Southern first up.

A really wonderful sporting year for the Titan athletic program.  GO TITANS!!!

I don't much care for the non-basketball CCIW sports posts that seem to be taking over this room, particularly when they're about sports that have their own rooms on d3boards.com, although it's easy for me to solve the problem by just scrolling past those posts. But if you're a long-time CCIW men's basketball fan who also scrolls past updates about women's track or badminton or backgammon or whatever, please bear with me for a moment and read this press release from the league office:

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Eight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) softball student-athletes were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region squad Tuesday.

Three Carthage student-athletes were placed on the Great Lakes Region First Team including pitcher Krystina Leazer (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove), first baseman Alyssa Schrader (Plainfield, Ill./South) and at-large selection Katie Morman (Kenosha, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran).

Elmhurst outfielder Megan Griffin (Naperville, Ill./Central) and Wheaton at-large selection Jenna Lawrenz (Wheaton, Ill./North) were named to the second team, while the third team included Elmhurst's Lindsay Nauman (Byron, Ill./H.S.), Wheaton's Lesley Guenard (Hanover, Mass./H.S.) and Augustana's Krista Watson (Coal City, Ill./H.S.).

Wheaton senior Jenna Lawrenz, who was named to the All-Region second team in softball, is the daughter of the late Dave Lawrenz, aka Wheaton C, one of the cornerstone posters of this room and a great gentleman who was something of a legend in CCIW fan circles. Dave passed away this past September, and he is still greatly missed by those of us fortunate enough to call him a friend. I thought it was important enough to break my own personal rule about posting softball stuff on the men's basketball page to include that here, sort of as a tribute to Dave via his daughter's excellence on the softball field for Wheaton.

Here are my original posts on Kevin Honn and Tyler Sutton complete with stats and other info. Kevin is an IBCA All State Special Mention player as you indicated. Regarding Tyler Sutton, I'm not sure what you mean by "Daily Herald Special Mention." He was a Daily Herald All (DuPage County) Area pick, and IBCA Class 4A 2nd team All State.

North Central has received word from Kevin Honn of Downers Grove South that he will be attending school in Naperville next year, and will be a member of the 2012-2013 Cardinal basketball team.

A 6'5" SF, Kevin played on a DGS team that finished 23-6, and featured two D1 recruits. Despite their presence, Kevin was still a major factor in his team's success, and averaged 11.6 ppg and 6.3 rpg.
He was named to both the West Suburban Conference All-Conference team, and the Daily Herald DuPage County All-Area team.

Kevin, who received interest from several midwest region schools, including major consideration from CCIW rival Carthage, is a very nice pickup for the Cardinal program.

RECRUITING NEWS

North Central has received a commitment from All Upstate Eight, Daily Herald All DuPage County, and Class 4A All State 2nd team member Tyler Sutton, a 6'2" SG from Neuqua Valley HS in Naperville, IL.

Tyler owns a shooters eye, and a supreme court IQ. For the just completed season he shot 41.6% from beyond the arc, including making 101 three pointers.  He averaged 16.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and had a 3 to 1 assist to TO ratio.

While at Neuqua, he was coached by his dad, Todd, who heads a Neuqua program which has sent several players to both the CCIW, and other prominent D3 regional schools.
