AndOne:
I can agree with you on that point. The SID could have written a quick response, then asked if you would like to be added to his distribution list for when the info will be released (or known).

I think we all are getting eager for the season to begin! :-)

Were I to get a note like that in my 9 to 5, I would do the same thing as the SID.  With all due respect, anything they wanted to share would be available somewhere online already.  I would mentally file this away as People Unclear Of The Concept, and just delete the message.  I am not interested in a conversation that could go who-knows-where, and any reply I provide only encourages that dialog.  So radio silence is the best response I can give.

kiko - I think that is a very fair point as well. As much as schools, coaches, SIDs, etc. don't necessarily post on these boards, I know that they look and read them. Very good chance SID's aren't going to say anything simply do to the fact you never know if someone will turn a "we don't release/provide that information" into a "are you kidding me?! They don't release the info when asked?!"

Also a fair point raised is that SIDs have a lot on their plates during the summer. They are preparing for fall sports and even trying to get a jump on the winter ones as well. They may be dealing with new websites, budget changes, changes in policy, and even changes in staff across the department. They may put in 60-80 hours easily during the academic year... but they still put in up to 40 hours in during the summer (even when the ADs tend to try and kick them out the door for a break). And just because you only find say four press releases in a span of two weeks (guessing) doesn't mean there isn't a TON of working going on in the background. SIDs also have business trips with CoSIDA and other organizations that only happen in the summer - I know a bunch of SIDs who are going to one, two, even three business trips this summer from CoSIDA, NCAA, and others.

These are very hard working individuals who are the background to any athletic department. You can usually tell how good an overall program is... by how the SID office works. I have found they go hand in hand for the most part (usually you will find a hard working SID in a sub-par department but you usually don't tend to find a sub-par SID in an excellent department).

And finally... in this day in age... if the office sends out information in a press release, tweet, Facebook post, etc., that is the information they are prepared to release. The idea they would send more information out via email is a bit much. Let's consider the fact that if they want to release the info, they will or have already.

As long as there's no departmental policy in place that forbids or discourages responding to e-mails of this type, I don't think that a terse but polite e-mail response from the SID would be a bad idea, simply out of: a) common courtesy; and b) not giving the school a bad name by ignoring an honest inquiry from the general public. If the inquirer did respond back with a, "Are you kidding me? They don't release the info when asked?" type of e-mail, the SID would be under no obligation to reply to that. He would have already done his job by replying once, and an are-you-kidding-me kind of e-mail doesn't deserve a response. It's rhetorical, unnecessary, and borderline hostile.

But the main point is that there may be a departmental policy in place that's specific to the school in question to handle this sort of inquiry. There's a good chance that Steve Marovich is following an established Carthage protocol.

Quote from: kiko on June 16, 2012, 12:59:38 AMThe National Wrestling Coaches Association would surely see this as yet another sign of wrestling's resurgence.  Which means more schools will add the sport.  Which means the CCIW will make it a mandatory part of the package.  Which means more men in tights (sorry... men wearing the required uniform).

Singlets. Wrestling uniforms are called singlets. In high school we used to joke that they were called that because no girl would ever want to date a wrestler. ;)

Yes, but the line from the movie is:

Anthony Michael Hall:  "You wear tights?"

Emilio Estevez: "Not tights.  I wear the required uniform."

Anthony Michael Hall:  "Tights."

Emelio Estevez:  "Shut up."

I missed a Breakfast Club quote? Crap. I'm gonna kick myself over that. I almost joined the airborne rangers because I wanted to live a life of danger.

I never promoted the exclusion of hockey to advance wrestling.

In fact, I have posted here that NPU should sponsor hockey and eliminate football.  Add lacrosse too.

I never said that you did. I merely cited your example from the Big Ten to illustrate your idea that wrestling could be included while other sports in which a league's schools participate (such as hockey in the Big Ten) are excluded. As far as the CCIW is concerned, it's a moot point, since none of the eight schools even has a varsity hockey team for either gender.

More off-topic banter..."please may I have another."

Is it a boys' basketball team or boys basketball team?  Boys don't possess the team...just an adj, right?  I am in the minority to think possession lacks and have been unable to be convinced otherwise.

Thoughts?  Thanks.

Typically we write Men's Basketball and not Men Basketball, don't we? That would show me that we are indicating a possessive. If we use Men's Basketball, then I think we have to use Boys' Basketball.
